    Thanks for the shout out. Had a customer report back claiming she killed her turkey this season with the 1-5/8oz load of #10's at 69 yards... My guess is the sheer pellet count is so much that the bird is overwhelmed with shot in the vital areas (more shot on target is more energy)... Mind boggling... Also, I do not recommend people take that kind of a shot with 10's 😅

    Federal 3 inch 28 gauge, 3 inch is 1 1/4 at 1200 gps. I love it. My wife used it on ducks and geese. That is what she is taking Turkey hunting. 1 5/8 of TSS is what I use in my 12. 9s for ducks and 7s for geese. 9s for turkey.

    I don't see where Federal is offering a 1 1/4 oz load of TSS for Turkey of course I'm not privy to all ammo out there available to the public.

    I agree 110% about roll vs fold crimp. Just extra steps, things to keep up with during the reloading process - not to mention ruining hulls. Thanks for adding your website. For some reason hearing your website is difficult with audio. Nice looking web page. I haven’t looked it over totally, yet. Just wanted to leave a comment letting you know I appreciate it. Good luck in the turkey woods. 🦃

    Roll crimp rant- not a rant at all. It’s educational and on point. Many of the folks loading TSS are low volume loaders for Turkeys/deer/predator. I actually got into TSS loading BB for the 28 gauge it’s a 🦌🦌 slayer!!! Those users treat hulls as once and done for the most part and in normal times use new primed hulls. I just recently purchased a press to fold crimp loads and hull availability is a concern. It’s my belief that Herter’s TSS at Bass Pro is the gateway drug to TSS reloading. It’s decently priced, available and gets people in the TSS game to experience the results. Those results just open the flood gates.

    For me the roll crimp makes sense due to powder density to stack hieght. I know that it's not expensive to buy the cork or shot cards. But options are always good.

    1 5/8oz might be heavy for gauge but the 1066fps is optimal for Turkey. I think you can probably stretch out to 50-55yards with those 8.5s

    This shows what the subguages with TSS can do. The days of 10 pound guns with 3 1/2” lead are over. I think the 28 gauge is the perfect gauge for Turkeys. I also believe 1 5/8 oz is overkill for turkeys. Just look at what your 3/4 ounce 410 loads did!!! Somewhere north of 1 ounce is a sweet spot for lethality, pressure, velocity, recoil and functionality. With the reloading powders available to reloaders getting 1 5/8 can give auto loaders cycling issues- over gassing, over driving the bolt and second shell not going into battery. It appears shorter barrel 28s are functioning better. Again this was an amazing video- love the 28 gauge!!! Keep up the amazing content.

    Great observation!!!! This load does use a very slow burning powder and can cause function issues in gas operated guns. Single shot, Pump, Over Under and Recoil operated guns (Benelli) have no issues. But the Semi Auto Tristar, Weatherby, Mossberg and Pointer folks may see hull damage or failure to feed with this load. I probably should have pointed that out. Thanks for watching and great comment.

    I reload 1 5/8 for 28ga and roll crimp it it kills like lightning and so does 1 1/2 once load 9.5 shot is plenty to kill at 50 yards out of my 28sa with the 3 step choke from trulock

    That wad performs better when you separate the stitching at the top. Same with 410.

    I know this sounds crazy and probably is not good for the internals but the last round of 12 gauge tss I loaded up I used me Lee perfect powder drop to drop 300g of #8 tss and just measured out the 320g of #4 steel but maybe give it a try they are fairly cheap and I still used it for powder afterwards and it seemed to still throw accurate charges. Probably should get a new one specifically for powder and one just for tss

    Do you have any idea what Wad used in a 28ga. TSS Load by Viper Ammunition. It’s an unspilt Wad and looked VERY Similar to a Federal Flight Control Wad. 4 Petals on the Bottom and 2 Small “ Wings “ on the sides ? Also do you think by loading a 3” 28ga. for Turkey 🦃 would be very beneficial at all? Have you ever done any 3” 28ga. TSS Loads ?

    Have you ever duplexed with lead in the bottom to make up space and reduce the quantity of TSS to around 1 ounce? Thats what I'm looking to do this year as I've found that 1 ounce of TSS is plenty out to 40-50 yards. I appreciate your videos!

  • @bullet225ho

    @bullet225ho

    5 ай бұрын

    I haven't but I have thought plenty about it. I actually think 3/4oz of TSS would be just fine. 3/4oz of 9s has 268 pellets. If we can keep 200 of those in the kill zone at range (40+yds) then whatever the lead will do in between there (possibly 6 lead) would just be a bonus. I would try and develop the lead to open up for closer shots. could be a pipe dream but could also work a treat. Thanks for the input and thanks for watching.
