260 - King Size Bed

Watch our newest video: "A Fancy Dead Blow Hammer, a Back-Saving Quick Lift, and a Bargain Router Plane | Tools Unleashed 02 "
• A Fancy Dead Blow Hamm... -~-
For FREE plans and additional details: www.thewoodwhis...
As time goes on, I’m getting closer and closer to replacing every piece of furniture in my house with something I built with my own hands. A lofty goal! This King Size Bed is one of the bigger ticket items on that shrinking list!
I used Cherry as my primary wood while featuring Walnut panels. I like the contrast, but over time the Cherry will darken and the Walnut will actually get lighter. When it’s all said and done the contrast won’t be so dramatic.
A Note About Tools
The tools I used in this video are undoubtedly “high-end” including the JDS Multi-Router and the Festool Domino. While the Domino has made numerous appearances on the show, the Multi-Router is making its debut. Most folks aren’t going to be able to justify the cost of either tool so rest assured that standard mortise and tenon joints (which I’ve shown you how to make numerous times) will suffice. In fact, the plans I’ve included show standard mortise and tenon joints instead of loose tenons as shown in the video.

Mark, you are my Asian design muse! I just finished my queen bed based on your design, adding rail and central supports for slats. I used red oak from a dead tree in my backyard, slabbed and dried for a few years in the basement, and walnut panels. I also made your pagoda-style memorial urn for somebody close to me. Thank you for the beautiful work and inspiration.

I have been watching a lot of "bed frame" videos because my wife wants me to make one. Most of the ones that I have seen are posted by guys like me, DIYers. So, when I see one posted by a professional like yourself.....man! what a difference. The techniques and craftsmanship are WORLDS apart. This thing turned out beautifully.

Wicked build! Little carpenter trick with the chop saw, if you need a little more cut depth put a sacrificial board under what you are cutting. This raises up the board into the bigger part of the blade. You can easily gain an extra few inches of depth.

I can't afford a guild membership. Are there any plans develop any kind of more REGULAR content on your KZread channel? Only one month ago, I used that exact same Rockler rail hardware connector for some rails I made for my convertible-from-crib to queen bed ... and some rails for my cousin's bed that needed to go from full size to queen. I really like them because they are hidden, but they do require quite a bit more work than other connector options.
