    I bought the ST 124 a few weeks ago. I have a Manfrotto aluminium beast of a tripod. It wouldnt move if you kicked during exposure. I love the thing. But its so (for me) heavy, and i needed a much lighter tripod that was also rigid and stable. I have two Sirui monopods and i love the brand. They are so well made, excellently priced, so I looked at the Sirui travel tripods. After weeks of deliberation, bought the ST 124. It really is a fantastic piece of kit. I just love using it. My heaviest camera lens combo, is my D610 and 16-35mm lens. It sits on the 124, with no problem, no shake, no movement. I love how portable it is. It is light, and because of the centre column design, comfotable to carry in one hand. (It also comes with a very neat, carry case as well) I chose the 124 because the 125 has five sections. The 124 has four, so thought it would be a bit more stable. Also the working hight is also excellent without extending the centre column, though if you do need to extend the column, it is still very rigid. Great design. There are great tripods from other makers out there, but if you are considering buying this one, go for it. I thoroughly recomend it.

    If you did panoramas you'd totally understand why this head twisting is a great thing. To make a good pano you need the camera mount to be levelled which can only be done if the twisting is done above the ball.

    Sorry, but not true. That only is a benefit for a pano exactly on the horizon. That's why they make leveling bases, to quickly level the plain for the base of the ball head. The as long as your camera is level side to side, you can shoot panos using the ball head pan pointing up, down or at the horizon. A leveling base adds a lot more options than a panning clamp on top of the ball head.

    twist lock?? Too many sections to get that slight taller height. Also, we are in 2021, photo gear in general should be much cheaper... Carbon fibre should now be much cheaper. Takes years for them to design a knob that should be easy to turn. Water proof is a nice thing to not have to worry about. I would consider a lever lock version for about $140-160. For cold climates you will appreciate lever locks as well. The entire industry has tanked, and expected pricing should be reflected. And this is not a small percentage change, this is a exponential change. For example, those working with commercial have gone from 8-15K a day rates to 400-2000 at best. Wedding has taken a slightly less hit, but, all else has dropped sharply. You can also confirm this with camera sales trends. As for water proof, you might consider what makes a tripod water proof, materials vs weep holes, etc.

  • @DuncanDimanche-sreview

    @DuncanDimanche-sreview

    Ummm yeah I feel you and It is not a cheap tripod but it is also VERY premium. The quality of it is superbe and that's why you are paying that much for it compare to others like their Traveler 7C which I love also. I think that it is normal that each brands have their premium models. If you look at Gitzo, Peakdesign and other brands their tripods are in the 600$ mark at best... And I really do feel like this is a fantastic tripod for the price. It's a very compact and light design and that's why you are paying more fr it.
