Hi Seth. I has been a while since i was here but good to be back bud. I had cancer last year and chemo. The cancer didn't do any damage itself but the Chemo didn't go well at all and caused a lot of problems. Fast forward to today and i am on the come back trail. Had my first longish mountain run on Sunday, 11 miles 4000ft ascent. One of the side effects of the Chemo is i have a Scotoma in my right eye so have a blind spot where my right side peripheral vision should be. Get that surfers eye sorted bud. While not painful at all it is a constant nuisance. Take care and keep turning the door knob Sir 👍

Hey Seth, I am an Optometrist from good ol’ Germany (therefore excuse my School English). But anyway trust your Optometrist because a Pterygium (the German word is Flügelfell), is one of the easiest to diagnose Eye Conditions out there. Many people who suffer from that Condition will not get a surgery, because most of the time it doesn’t grow further and therefore doesn’t affect your eyesight. What it COULD do is a) it pulls on your Cornea and this leads to an irregular Astigmatism, and b) it could grow onto your Cornea and you will surely see worse. But only these two Conditions will cause a surgery. So if you observe a worsening of your Eyesight, go see an Ophthalmologist and if you don’t everything is going well… The best wishes for you and your family

Good morning Seth, So surprised/excited to see your video this morning. I didn't know that you've made some videos since your break from KZread. Tell you what, it was like seeing an old friend and didn't realize how much I missed seeing your videos during my morning coffee routine. Turned 50 this year and have been turning that doorknob and buttering that bread more consistently than ever. You and the family look terrific and happy you're all doing well. And so happy you showed up in my KZread algorithm again.

At the beginning of this year I said that my goal was going to be focusing on enjoying running rather than focusing on results. Over the past couple years I got really into running and what started out as a fun way to stay in shape turned into a bit of an obsession with training, so I wanted to take a step back and return to just having fun. Unfortunately in February I had a blood clot in my leg which has forced me to take 2 months of running and am only just now getting to return. I've definitely lost a lot of fitness and I do still occasionally get pain in the leg so it's definitely a good reminder to focus on just having fun for now and appreciating that I can get back out there. Hope your injury doesn't hinder your progress too much!

Always fun to see local landmarks in your videos. That's my local track too, it's a good one. Hope the eye business stays low-drama for you and you can still hit all of those beautiful runs in the mountains. I've used skydiving goggles in the past for some winter bike commuting to help keep out wind, might be a good option for you some days too, check them out.

This is a fitting vlog for where I am currently at in my training. I am dealing with a bit of a niggle in my knee, assuming it’s runner’s knee from overuse. I’ve only run a couple times that past couple of weeks and listening to my body to not overdo it. I’ve got my next 10K race at the end of my which is my goal race. Fortunately, some pressure is taken off since I hit my 10K PR goal in my February 10K (in Ohio) with a time of 42:41, almost a 2 minute PR. For my upcoming race, assuming I can get back to normal running, I look to go sub 42 minutes in the 10K.

Hey Seth, I've had pterygia in both eyes for 30 years (47 now) with same light blue eyes as you and used to surf snowboard a lot in high school. They've never become an issue or grown any larger mainly down to fact that I just wear sunglasses ALL THE TIME now when outside in any sort of bright sun. So keep rockin the future goggles! 😎

I had surgery for a pterygium several years ago; I was a competitive tennis player growing up so was exposed to the sun a lot. The surgery went well with no recurrence; I had a conjunctival tissue graft using glue instead of sutures. While the surgery was painless, the recovery was not fun, very painful for several days. Its important to ask the surgeon what their rate of recurrence is. Good luck Seth!

Eyes need moisture, too ✨ Ask your doctor about daily moisturizing eye drops and bedtime eye ointment to help prevent dryness and soften up your “Ter- ridge- e-um”🤗 Some people have them scraped off if the heavy moisturizing doesn’t resolve the issue. Moisturizing and reducing glare will be a must but ask your doctor 🤗🏃🏻‍♂️

Hi Seth, yes, in fact, the sun is one of the main factors (and also genetic) and that can also be seen in surfers, for example. I have had surgery twice (on both eyes) and to be honest it is not pleasant as it is painful the first week and it is disabling having to use only one eye. But after 15-20 you'll be done! Try doing it in winter, when you'll be home more and won't have the FOMO to be outside enjoying yourself. :) Take care!

if you don't want to stick with goggles for whatever reason, you may consider looking at some road/mtb cycling goggles. they tend to wrap better around the face and have better ventilation than sunnies made for most other applications including for snow. finding one that fits your face and still blocks wind can be the tough part. but it may allow you to get wind/sun protection even with a photochromic lens (lighter for more light transmission in low light conditions) so you could use at night too. plan b for those could be a set with interchangeable lenses to pop in a rose/yellow/clear lens for low light conditions.

I usually do not disagree, but the sled is an excellent implement for sprinters… Usain Bolt used them and in particular more of a “drag bag” behind him for resistance training that’s around 10% of your weight so you’re not changing run mechanics much… the sprint mechanics of a front push sled are coming out of the blocks low… so not just for mountain runners- from the speed guy in DGR… you’re welcome brother!
