For me, as a teen, the song was Ajnabi. The other songs were great as well but this one stuck. Even now these songs resonate. Perhaps that's what make AR a true timeless legend.

In the journey of music production, ar rahman is a co passenger at driver seat. Not a driver. Being co passenger, one can enjoy the company of others, crack jokes share food and make the journey memorable. But just being a driver, should concentrate on driving. So being a co passengers, arr comforts his musicians yet he knows how to ride to the destination to generate great music. This is the difference between arr and any music director whom i know. By the way "Dil se re" is THE song I use to test any audio equipment before I buy. Like earphones, speakers..

I concur with most of the comments here. I believe that Dilse album is the pinnacle of ARR. 25 yrs and even now - it would not be out of place in any latest movie. The only grouse for me was the fantastic background themes were not released when the audio cassettes came in. They have to be found separately on KZread

Those days, BGMs were musused by TV channels for they serials. Thus ARR never relesaed them. Now India has learnt to respect - IPR. That's the reason.

When everything falls in place at right place at right moment, that’s when Dilse, Taal or Lagan can happen. Blessed to listen them whenever we can!!!

When Dilse was released every stereo had its songs playing and everyone knew it had music by Rahman. It was quite unusual because music mostly got known by singers rather than composers from where I am. ARRahman had already become a household name with his albums like Kaadhalan and Bombay at that time.

When you realize Lata sang Jiya Jale song looking at Gulzar, everything makes sense.

Sometime there are song which we can sing along & some song which keep you hook every time you hear it & Dil Se album is one of those album whose every song is a Masterpiece be it's Jiya Jale, Aye Ajnabi, Satrangi Re or the title track by Magician himself... Some songs are like an Enigma in itself & whole Dil Se album is such an Enigma that can never go out of fashion trust me even after 50 years you will find the same passion & joy while hearing it, that's the beauty of A R Rahman song's... 👍👍👍

Dil Se is one of the best films made in India and ARR's music is mindblowing . I have been listening / watching title song Dil se, Aye Aznabi and Chaiya Chaiya every week . These songs remain fresh everytime

25 years already 😮, I heard Chaiya chaiya song in a teakadai (tea shop) in front of my college a deep South (TN) town, song sounded so alien to south ears , I still vividly remember the faces of people listening to that song , people were not able to place the song , they were thrilled and confused at the same time, they didn’t know if they like it but surely were not able to reject it, within a few days , it was playing everywhere repeatedly 😂

I loved the song that only comes in the movie, in the shahrukh and pretty betrothal scene , this was pre KZread era, wanted this song so badly, went to burmabazzar in chennai looking for a pirated dvd, wasn’t available because the movie was an utter flap, went to almost all shops, finally one shop owner quizzically asked you want THAT MOVIE? Ok come after two days , I still got those 3 cds 😂😊

Real curse was "Bombay Dreams" because after that Rehaman’s music lacked the early 90s magic.

It is not DIL SE ...it is something that reached DIL TAK. (Dil tak is the suitable name)

Wow..a very unconventional script to be played by mainstream actors even in today’s OTT times! Hats off to Mani Ratnam, ARR, Gulzar for Dilse and Manisha Koirala too for her unusual role. Though, is rumoured that Kajol was the original choice for this role and she had rejected due to date issues and then the role was Manisha’s baby! But unfortunately, had this movie been a solid hit, MK wud’ve been a huge actress at that time and career wouldn’t have started sinking!

Oh lord let him Live forever. Can’t cope up with a void so Atleast take me before him. Original compositions is only in hands in India. Which I don’t know if it’s good or bad.

Kajol was offered the role but she requested a higher price and Mani said no. It was reported like that at the time - you can find the article if you search. Later - in interviews she stated it was a date-clash because of KKHH - but doesn’t make sense as SRK was able to do both films 😎

I'm a Udit Narayan fan, loved AYE AJNABI but hearing the way Srinivas sung the hindi AYE AJNABI here I liked it felt more earthy than Udit Narayan.
