4:40 is a couple of water pressure gauges. You put it on your outside spigot and then quickly turn on the water. It will move the stationary needle to the maximum pressure and then the main needle settles back to your normal pressure.

I can only guess without looking everything up what the new price would be for all these but I imagine over a grand, possibly much more.....I know even a simple Starrett spring caliber sells for 75-100 bucks new........Of course I imagine a new Kennedy box like that must go for about $500 these days.

If they’re happy and I’m happy, then it’s a fair deal. I mentioned in the video that I offered her $25 for the box alone, she then insisted I take the contents with it. If it was full of junk and useless stuff (which has happened to me before), I still would have been happy with it, but I took a chance this time that happened to pay off. All that said, I did return today and bought more stuff and I also paid more for some parts that were missing from stuff in this video, which added up to another $35. A lot of people around here don’t consider other people’s lack of knowledge, but many people here and on my IG know that I make a regular practice of paying people more than what they’re asking, because I’m a fair person and honor is important to me. Being fair doesn’t stop me from getting ripped off by unscrupulous estate brokers too, it happens way more than people think.

Also, not all of them are good anymore, maybe at one time but there are a few things that will be harvested for parts so other tools can continue being useful. 👍🏾

@@toolscrounge Did they want or need those keys? Several years be fore he passed, my dad got rid of all the old, random keys he had accumulated over the years--and there were a lot of them--by giving them all to a local metal artist. The only unused key he kept was a door key from the first house he and mom bought.

Great buy on the box...(Amazon list for this size Kennedy box is $460 and change)... And the older boxes are probably better made. Tools - and what you do with them or how you treat them is usually a personal matter to the person involved. The You Tube tribe includes a wide assortment of types, from those that worship the patina (rust and all) through those who would clean, polish, and paint them to a mirror shine. You are never going to please them all. I see nothing disrespectful in your handling or comments. These are tools, not gods. Do what you are comfortable with, ignore the zealots on both ends and enjoy the ride. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for such a pleasant comment, I really appreciate it! I personally tend to let the condition of the tool itself dictate what happens. Some will never be usable again, but are rusty and beautiful. Others get a wire wheel, a paint job, and an oiling to be put back into service or sold. Still, there are a lot that simply cannot be saved so they’re stripped for parts and made into found object sculptures. I try to use everything, and what I can’t save gets recycled which is all I can do really. Just trying to do what I can in my little corner of the world. Thanks again, I’m glad you enjoyed it! ✨

That was a major deal on that Machinist's tool box! It reminded me of going through my dad's machinist tool box or my brother's welders tool box! Dad was a machinist for H.K.Porter at their Somerville Mass plant. I like to pick up and restore their tools. I have one as old as 1880 patented before the H.K.P. letters and their address was even forged into the tool.

A couple id's: 5:45: cage for a microstop type countersink. Aircafter/tin knocker tool.7:10: stepped parallel half 7:45: key: common type through the second half of 20'th cty for cabinets, sliding glass doors, etc. Double sided wafer lock. 14:10 post for a surface gauge. The bottom square steel is the bottom scribe. 17:00 center gauge for setting threading tools in a lathe. Called a center gauge, or fishtail gauge, sometimes. 18:05: keyseat clamps. Used so a rule can be laid parallel to the axis of a round part when laying out a keyway. 19:10: lever for an indicator hole attachment, like the Starrett 670. Can't ID the model from the brief view. 20:20: Starrett double square for a (i think) 4" rule. 20:28: for a Slocomb micrometer. 20:40: depth and angle gauge. Uses slim rule. 21:20: These came in set, thin or thick. A holder would be included. They are for measuring in tight quarters. Machinists often made their own by cutting down damages rules. 22:30 setting standards for a micrometer. They go with, for example, the 1-2" mic 22:50: hermaphrodite firm joint divider 25:20: not a real uncommon type of outside caliper. I can't recall the maker. 26:50: chain quick link 28:00: nice little machinist jack.I like it 28:50: Yes, it is a depth gauge 33:50: common style of clamp for mounting indicators and the like. Commercial is common, home made is very common. It was a popular student/apprentice project. The box itself is well worth the $25, especially with a key. Nice find

Wow, thank you for that attention to detail! I discussed this with a buddy of mine, aside from different people referring to many machinist tools as different things, I tend to freeze up with what items are called until later. With more practice and exposure to using stuff I’ll get there eventually. I really appreciate you posting this without being rude, it’s helpful not just to me but others as well! 👍🏾🔥🧠

@@toolscrounge I may not always be right, but I try to use the same names as the manufacturer. I try no to be rude, as well, but I don't have the strongest people skills, so sometimes am unintentionally. I do apologize if I came across poorly. I tend to try to research the crap out of hings I pick up, and am able to eventually get it right most of the time. Some of these things, if in good nick, are quite excellent scores. The wrench for Slocomb micrometers is tough to find, for one in need (I have passed a few on over the years to those in need). If you have questions for further details, I'm happy to help, or refer to someone that can. Have an awesome evening

Other than the mic's and the v-block, all the money was in the long thin drawer. Love the Lufkin 6-inch scale. If it has .100 and .010 scale on one of the sides, that is the best. Sadly, this fellow was a real old time basic machinist. I'm 60 and other than an occasional use of those manual measuring devices like the dividers, even during my earliest years we never used that old stuff. I knew you stole it for $25 even if just for the box, but you're not going to clean up financially with those tools. I did however appreciate you sharing your find. Us old toolmakers and machinists did the type of work which 99% of people don't have any real understanding of what it takes and how many years of experience it entails to be a top-level tool and die maker, mold maker, or all-around machinist.

nice find. you seemed pretty pleased with it. I live in a weird tool desert so machinist tools aren't very common. . just was wondering besides the collector value are they worth picking up? do you think there's a market for second hand ones or is it one of those things guys want and need to buy new? I don't do a lot of machining unless it's at work and they got all the tools. side note about estate sales, make sure your families have at least some idea of the value of your stuff. not to be a downer but your tools should be able to take care of your family after your gone. nice video very enjoyable.

I was very pleased because there’s a fair number of things in here I can’t justify purchasing at new or at most new prices. There’s a market for second hand stuff which is how I offset the stuff I keep, the only way to really make a living selling tools is strictly if that is all you do. Generally speaking, I hover around breaking even, but I trade/barter a lot too. Machinist tools aren’t uncommon here, but a lot of them aren’t usable or worth trying to save because they’ve been used hard for decades at places like Boeing. They made money and built lives for these families but many of the jobs have been automated or offshored so they tend to languish in old barns and garages. Sadly. My wife and partner of 25+ years is keenly aware of the value of my shop, but she also knows that the majority of what I keep isn’t “worth” anything beyond its usefulness or our enjoyment of it. I’m glad you enjoyed the video, I’m going to keep making more. 💥🔥👍🏾

I would say it's pretty much always worth it to buy machinist stuff. So long as the price is not high unless you know what you're getting. Machinist basically means precision and precision basically means more money. That said you also don't just throw machinist stuff in a tool box and should be treated relatively carefully. Anything that says starrett or brown & Sharpe is worth money and possibly a good amount.
