@@brupic8968 It was much more rarer in those days, and you also have to consider that Duran skipped the junior welterweight class entirely and went from lightweight to welterweight, although he defeated a couple fighters who went on to win that title. Thomas Hearns also started his pro career not long after he was eliminated in the Golden Gloves finals by Aaron Pryor at lightweight by decision. He eventually fought all the way up to the cruiserweight division. Since then, there's been many multiple title winners at different weight classes like Manny Pacquiao, Floyd, Mayweather Jr. and others.

I don't see it in any of the comments, and it is 104 years old (1919), but Jack Dempsey vs. Jess Willard was absolutely brutal. There is video footage of the fight out there. I think Dempsey was 50 pounds lighter than Willard, but still knocked him down 7 times in the 1st round. Since they didn't require you to go to a neutral corner, Dempsey stood over Willard while he was getting up and immediately pummeled him time and time again.

I thought for sure the #1 brutal knockout would be from a fight in the early 60's with champ Emil Griffith pummeling his opponent Benny Parrett as Parrett was tied up helplessly on the ropes. Parrett's head was literally bouncing back and forth, left and right from the brutality of Griffith's onslaught. Finally the fight was halted and Parrett was taken to the hospital where he died.

Ali's combination wasn't brutal, it was beautiful. Best punching form ever. George Foreman's slow beatdown of Ron Lyle was the most brutal and the ref should have stopped it long before Lyle went down. George was hesitating throwing those final punches and backed down the power after Lyle was almost defenseless.

Did you notice the long haired guy in the white t-shirt to the right of the fighter yelling, "Stop It!", three or four times before George Foreman finally stopped. Refs like that are to blame for boxers who get completely messed for life. You would think that anyone with a brain would stop the beating after the tenth consecutive blow to the head without any defensive moves whatsoever. I love boxing, but I sure as hell do not like watching low-blow artists or someone being beaten to death.

Man...that "walking uppercut" is a devastating punch that NOBODY delivers with the power that George Foreman has. Hard to come back from that.

@@LIONTAMER3D I agree. But...a uppercut thrown while standing up is completely different than one delivered while walking. George Foreman is the only fighter, (that I know of) who delivers that punch... WHILE WALKING! What makes it so devastating is the fact that the opposing fighter can't see it coming. George's hands are kept low as he's walking towards his opponent. The distance between them is so great that, the opposing fighter believes himself to be safe. If you watch closely, you'll see that the way it's delivered...it's almost like a "sucker punch". You never see it coming. Brilliant.

@@heavydownn2962 i think the walking version requires impeccable timing, more than anything else. power is power, but to deliver that punch while walking into a moving opponent is some crazy accurate timing just to land it.

@@heavydownn2962 mate you overanalized it to shits. that punch had nothing to do with strategy, cooney couldnt move well after taking punishment and foreman knew so he just went for it. if cooney was still fresh that would have been an easy one to avoid. he came off of 3 years of retirement as well.
