25. Dosing Cannabis Medicine with Dustin Sulak, DO

Ғылым және технология

We discuss dosing medical cannabis with Dr. Dustin Sulak. Dustin is an osteopathic general practitioner who focuses on treating patients with refractory conditions using an individualized, health-centered approach. Dr. Sulak is a founder of Integr8 Health, a medical practice in Maine that follows over 8,000 patients using medical cannabis, and cofounder of Healer.com, a medical cannabis education resource. Dustin has also participated in every CannMed Event since our first event in 2016. He serves on our CannMed Advisory Board, evaluating abstracts and helping select presenters, and he is an instructor on our full-day CannMed Medical Practicum.
Topics discussed include:
- Why dosing medical cannabis is different from other therapeutics
- The fact that cannabinoids can have biphasic and even triphasic effects
- How a patient’s optimal dose can change over time, commonly going down
- How patients commonly build a tolerance to the adverse effects of cannabis but not the benefits
- The benefits of working with a trained medical provider to determine one’s optimal dose, but also strategies for how patients can find it on their own
- How can cannabis be used for health promotion and disease prevention
- How using a variety of cannabis cultivars and not sticking to just one strain can be beneficial for patients

I feel so much better after I stop cannabis. I feel extremely euphoric and energetic, my appetite starts to come back, I’m a completely different person. But that seems to level off after a few weeks. So I try to take breaks often so I can feel really good

Also. I think it’s important that we take into account the placebo effect when people claim they get wildly different effects from certain strains to the other. Considering true indicas and sativas don’t even exist anymore. And also, basically all bud at the dispensary has next to no minor cannabinoids. And I personally don’t buy into the terpene BS that’s been going around lately. But let’s pretend it does have an effect. There’s NO consistency across strains. Cool, limonene is supposedly stimulating and beta-car is sedating? Then why when I get a sativa does it sometimes have more beta-car than some indicas I get that literally have zero? There’s no pattern to the terps in indicas and sativas. It’s a free for all Considering in studies people had their allergy symptoms taken away by a placebo when they thought they were given an anti histamine I think it’s very possible that if someone thinks they’re gonna be energetic using a sativa, then they likely will feel stimulating effect. Also, clearly if you’re using a sativa during the day while out and about you’re gonna feel more energetic and when you smoke an indica at night on the couch you’re obviously gonna get tired Certainly not suggesting minor noids can’t play a role in the effects bc they certainly do but I think people forget that their mindset going in can be just as powerful

It also plays a role in what you smoke through. If it's a vaporizer, the terpenes are probably getting into your system. If you smoke a joint, the terpenes are burned off and any therapeutic effect of terpenes is out of the question.

But he was basically just saying that all of the heavy smokers are out of the picture because of their tolerance levels...so..whats the answer here ..??dab..scsrs..oral solutions??
