I don't know why people keep suggesting you can live off the land by shooting small game. I think they are just dreaming.

There have been some 7 million 10/22's sold since its introduction. We either have a lot of stupid people, or it's a very good rifle. The vaunted Israeli Defense Force is still using this weapon, which is a testament to it's utility.

Yep IDF uses them as urban sniper rifles. Probably been quite a few Hamas downed with them since October

A lot of people have disabilities that limit them to what firearms they can use. 22lr may well be their only option. Not the best choice for everyone, everywhere or everything.

@@NavySooner when you talked about the blast of an AR, that’s why I was wondering about the .22. I’ve got a 15-22, too! I’ve got ARs, but was just wondering. I’ve got both on deck, but there’s certain legal problems I might avoid if .22 lr is effective.

Such a heated, controversial subject I have ever seen. Who is right? Who is wrong? idk, each engagement is unique, no two are the same. Just like firefighting, no two fires are the same.

Hunting in shtf is fantasy. Effective Wound Care/ keeping away infection is close to fantasy in shtf.... any bullet wound will most likely prove fatal and so the ones who survive will avoid contact as much as possible - except bandits or gangster/ warlords who will be the dominant threat. With quality ammo (fed punch) 22LR is just fine for EDC defense (esp from revolvers) and for 100yds in shtf. The only exception to this is defeating armor/ barricades (but most shoulders/ legs are unarmored) & no one is taking shots at fortification in shtf.... I strongly disagree with you. 22LR for 90% of situations/ 7.62x39 for when you need to punch through something. Anything over 100yds... walk away, run to play another day.

@@NavySoonerSad but true. White tail populations were almost destroyed during the Great Depression. Every Hunter now has a rifle that can reach out further and in theory could collect more game. If the Great Depression happened with modern technology everything over 10lbs within 100 miles of civilization is getting poached.

@@NavySoonerI don't know about that. Most people these days are far far less capable of of hunting, or even gutting animals, and many others are just sickly and unfit then the people who lived during the great depression when various animals were nearly extirpated. Animal populationhs are also much higher now then back then. In a grid down situation, attrition of deer due to cars would also not be a factor. I am more inclined to say that the animals would be fine, if anything, most humans would be dead within a month or two.

@@TheFish711I respectfully don't agree. See my above comment, unless youtube removes it. Owning a gun is one thing, hunting, gutting, hauling, and butchering a deer is on another level. Heck, there are deer hunters who don't even know how to gut a deer as they just get their buck and drop the rest off at the food bank.

Re: Self-defense, the objective isn't to kill the perp with sepsis in 4 days. The objective is to incapacitate the threat immediately, for what should be obvious reasons. .22lr is simply inferior at this task. I could understand something like a .22 magnum revolver for concealed carry, but a .22lr shoulder weapon of any kind in an anti-personnel role is almost unthinkable to me.
