Great video! last weekend we ran a CCMG .22 converter in an AR platform. We ended up shooting about 250 rounds of Remington hollow points. Out of that we had 5 failure to fire malfunctions. We kept all the rounds that failed and reloaded them into a mag and reshot them twice. on the first reshoot 1 fired as advertised, the others, after being struck 3 times each still did not fire. Failure to fire is not unheard of with any round, especially .22 and second everybody should practice clearing the malfunction.

I wouldn't hesitate to use a 22 rifle for defense. Growing up back in the 70's we killed a big hog every fall to can and make livermush and a single 40 gr plain ol roundnose bullet from about a foot away would go all the way through the skull and usually end up in the neck. You probably remember that there wasn't any CCIs or hyper velocity rounds back then. We used the cheapest ammo we could get which was usually either Remington or Winchester 500 round bricks. I've taken a couple of deer with a 22 also and when popped in the head they dropped in their tracks. That was back when everyone said that there wasn't any deer left in this part of country and we didn't even have a deer season. Well I lived in the woods growing up and I knew that there was still deer around here, I just didn't tell anybody. If a 22 rifle will drop a 500 lb pig or a big deer with one shot, I'm sure that a half a dozen Stingers in the chest will stop a thug. I've not even got a 22 right now because apparently people think they're made of gold or something. My local gun store is asking $250.00 for a single shot Badger backpack rifle and I can't find a single used 22 in the county. A little single shot is what I want because they're light handy little rifles and fun to shoot. If anybody is stupid enough to try and break in the house there's a pump 12 gauge or 45 acp waiting on them. Us old NC hillbillies don't fool around.

As always a great video brother. My logic is that a round nose solid usually will penetrate better than a hollow point and with a 22 penetration is the key. Also I think most 22 lr rounds are made with a softer lead so even with a round nose solid you should get a decent amount of flattening out with few exceptions. I've shot every kinda 22 lr ammo under the sun, from higher cost ammo to cheaper cost ammo like remington thunderbolts and found there is very little difference in performance so naturally I stick with the cheapest I can find on a given day. At first glance I thought that rifle was either a remington speed master or field master pump lol. for the people that think a 22 rifle isnt effective they need to examine all the damage John Hinkley Jr was able to do to president Reagan and his security team with a snub nose 22 lr revolver. For those that doubt the reliability of the rim fire primer I may have at best 5-6 rounds not go off per thousand and I think that's pretty good odds. And when you think of it an average 9mm bullets is at 115-124 grains, and 22lr at 36-40 grains, and the muzzle velocity is roughly similiar my idea is that 3 quick shots from a 22 equals one hit with a 9mm with a 22 rifle being quite a bit more accurate. A 22lr rifle in the right hands is a formidable weapon

The human body is 70-90 percent water. Especially after you get through the meat and bones. Peanuts are harder and much more dense than internal organs. If you have ever gutted a dear then I am sure you have felt the texture of the internals and it is nothing like the shell or the actual peanut it's self.

Some states, like NJ, outlawed hollow point ammo so the flat tip/wad cutter is an option.

From my understanding ballistic tips like VMax, Pow'r Ball and FTX are legal in NJ because of the specific language of the law banning hollow points.

What would keep someone wanting to live in that state or a state like it? I know it’s easier said than done, but I would move and never look back. As a Texan I want to totally separate from the union. I will never understand how people want to live their one life doing and owning what they are told by others.

Great video, informative, thank you. My two cents: A center-fire .22 rifle (hornet or TCM) puts a lot more energy into the projectile but still has no recoil. Keep up the good work.

Very interesting KY,PAT. I also live in KY although I believe it's probably the other end of the state. Just wanted to make a comment that I've shot some armscor .22llrthat I acquired a few months back and I average 1outta every6 that wont fire even after multiple primer strikes!! I've had very good results with the CCI stingers sourced from my local wally-world!! Might want to leave the armscor stuff to target practice only unless you had no choice. Also good luck with federal bulk pack ammo also.

Hey neighbor, I appreciate you watching. I absolutely agree. There are huge differences in certain types of ammo and how they perform in certain firearms. Anytime really, but especially if the intended purposes are edc or home defense. The ammo and firearm should be thoroughly tested to make sure they are running well.

Good informative video, as usual. 22LR HP vs. RN controversy seems eternal. Key point is shot placement and, in the case of 22LR's, how many rounds immediately available. And, as always, one hit with a 22LR is better than one miss with a 45 ACP. Thanks again.

That Norma Tac 22 is problematic in my semi autos too. It has thin brass that is sticky in the chambers and it's low powered stuff. It really shines in a bolt action rifle for consistency. Grease stuff though.

Enjoyable and informative video 👍 Some years ago I read that with success the Israeli army used sniper teams with ruger 10/22 rifles , as non lethal deterrent against rioters and the such. They aimed for a thigh shot with a 22lr.

Great test , thank you . I have found my factory 10rd mags for my Ruger 10/22 will feed anything just fine but the factory 25rd mags don't seem to like hollow points . Failure to feed issues . Anybody else have that problem? Not a big deal but would sure be nice to find a solution

I personally have had the best results with CCI Stingers, Mini mags, and Aguila High velocity for accuracy. I rarely shoot Federal but have also had really good results. I use my 22's for small game to mid-sized varmints, Coyotes being the biggest and plinking. As for Home defense I wouldn't Make 22lr my 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice. But I definitely get the point you are making.

I get why you're doing the juice bottle, but I think filling it with straight water is too homogenous for what you're trying to do. How about stuffing a load of packing peanuts in there before filling it to vary the density?
@TheKentuckyPatriot
Жыл бұрын
The human body is 70-90 percent water. Especially after you get through the meat and bones. Peanuts are harder and much more dense than internal organs. If you have ever gutted a dear then I am sure you have felt the texture of the internals and it is nothing like the shell or the actual peanut it's self. No test medium is gonna be prefect but from what I have found ribs and water or ribs and oranges like Paul Harrell uses is the closest to the human body that I can reasonably replicate. Thanks for watching 🙂

@@TheKentuckyPatriot Not peanuts, packing peanuts. The foam ones you get in delivery boxes. Idea being that it's still mostly water and mostly free, but we all know that a water jug is an unrealistically good expansion medium for JHPs. bottom line with any firearm, put rounds on target, the more the better. if you are well-trained on just a 22lr plinking rifle that is kept handy you are likely better protected at home than 90% of your clueless suburban neighbors.
