I had a 22 lb Maine Coon. He didn't get the oily coat. I brushed him nearly every day. It was our special together time before bedtime. Eventu, he would want to be brushed at any time. RIP Hagrid

I had a mixed Breed Maine Coon.. He didn't mind the bath he just didn't like the long baths.. 20 Minutes was long enough for him then he would lose his patience and start squirming around like this one did.. He loved to be brush just not on his belly. He would always do that part.. But he did love belly rubs.. There was a certain vaccum cleaner he liked as well, so I would vaccum his fur about once a week.. Thank goodness he didn't have the long hair part.. Although at least twice a week I would take baby wipes and clean his butt for him.. At first he thought I was being weird but then he realized that it felt good to be clean down there.. Maine Coons are sooo intelligent.. Sadly he passed away and I miss him sooo much.. His name was Rocky and the name fit him.. Such a gentle giant..

I am sooo sorry for your loss, My Simba hates noises, I could never get a razor near him, and he to is very smart. He looked at me like WHAT ARE YOU DOING, Then after cutting the poo ball out and let him smell it then he let me continue. LOLOLOLOL. And it's funny, I try to call him to sit on my lap, but he egnors me. So one time I thought " I wonder what he would do if I spoke to him in kitty language? " So I did and he responded. LOLOLOL. I could talk to him till I'm blue in the face. Now I would meow and point to him to come onto my lap, and he did! My husband said wow he is really smart. LOL, And animals really have emotions. Love,and temper tantrums, and they really do cry when depressed. I sooo miss his brother who also died.

I had a log orange Maine Coon . He loved the bath. his fur looked like satin when wet. Doing the but trim & clean was not a fun job. His belly was a wonderful fluff. His knickers were cute. He loved petted belly pets and loving hugs and pets. We thought of shaving his belly. It was just too cute. HE lived to about 11. Miss him every day.

Riggy is so darn cute. I love how chill he is when he's getting his belly shaved.

They did a wonderful job, and Riggy did as well. When my Maine Coons, all polydactyl, were young, I found out my vet offered grooming as well as health needs. They all lived into their twenties and I appreciated having help with their thick long fur. I worked long hours, but combed and brushed them. They were gorgeous cats, gentle like Riggy.

Riggy is such a Beautiful Boy. God Bless this little Guy. He is Lucky to have such nice Owners, Who will Spend Time and Money on him. He Knows he is Loved. ♥️🖤💙🐈

If his owners would brush him regularly (and feed him a lot less cuz that cat is way too fat) he wouldn't need a professional groomer.

Such a precious boy: I had a mixed Maine Coon, who loved being brushed and thus I brushed him most every day. Loved that boy. I had him about 12-15 yrs, hard now to remember. What a boy: loved your video and certainly can see that this baby is loved. START THEM YOUNG AND USE A GOOD GROOMER. Thanks guys.😊

i'm glad i managed to make a good deal with my MC about grooming. It was a lengthy process with a lot of patience and snacks + finding a good comb. Now she will allow me to comb her fur every few days. She will still try to play with the comb but she realizes it makes her feel better.

My Maine Coon, Abby has had her spa days since a kitten. She is now 10 yrs old. Her groomer Julie is very good with her. Abby as a senior gal can fire off now. I’ve taken my various cats for spa days. I also have a half Siamese polydactyl Bella. She screams the entire time. My babies are healthier being groomed. It’s another set of eyes/hands on them. Therefore some issues needing vet assistance are spotted early. As an RN…. I examined all our cats/dogs often.

I have the cutest Maine Coon….Abby! She goes to the “spa” every three months. My Diva returns home to prance and show off her beauty. Abby runs my lodge. I love the breed. ❤️🔷❤️🌹

Well Riggy is one Good Looking Cat. I thank you very much for making this video so that I could see what all is involved in bathing a big kitty. His Markings are great. I cannot believe that he did not have a cow when you all started grooming him. But,as I watched the video I noticed how he just put up with everything you all did to him. Can you do any shaving to shorten the coat, to avoid deshedding?

Just some filming advice. The camera would be better to focus on the cat and the groomers hands. People are not overly interested in seeing the groomers, I think the people are more motivated to see the cat. And it would have been very satisfying to have several moments of the finished cat to see how beautiful he turned out. Maybe even do a side by side of before and after. I know making videos is an artform and like anything else practice is king. Just some ideas I have seen on super successful grooming videos. For a good example see: The Girl WithThe Dogs. She even has her own line of grooming tools and products for all types of dogs and cats. She calls the cat's paws "Murder Mittens." 🏵🏵🏵

Hi. I’m curious how much something like this would cost. It’s hard to find cat groomers in my town. The one I did find charges $300 for just a belly shave and Lion cut.

Hi Misty, it really is dependent on location. We are in western NY in a small town, and a basic grooming +lion cut runs about $115 after tax.

He's identical to my Hairy Potter and he's just now getting mats at 2 years old. He loves to be brushed but not those mats. I'm afraid if I try clippers he'll bite my hand off.. lol I'm chicken 😊

For Riggy, it's because (1) he gets matted underneath, and (2) he overheats.

If he had all his hair shaved because maybe of hot weather(summer hair cut) is that a wrong thing to do to a Maine Coon? Does that hurt the cat in some way?

No, it doesn't hurt the cat. Just know that some cats' fur grows back exactly the same as before they were shaved, but some cats' fur grows back a different texture or slightly different color.

It's definitely not okay to shave a Maine Coon cat. Ever. Unless it has a serious skin condition. MCs are supposed to be brushed regularly, at least once a week and three times a week in spring and fall when they're blowing their coat. This cat breed stems from a large wild forest cat, it's not an artificially created one and by shaving them they cannot self-regulate their temperature anymore. In short, it's a cruel and harmful thing to do. So, please, don't ever shave your Coonie.

It isn't stressful. The video isn't at normal speed. It's sped up.

What I don't understand is why is it ok to shave cats double coated fur and not say a husky or malamute? It's said with a dog that shaving can destroy their coat or give them alopecia

@@9livesholistic753 Maine Coons are only supposed to be shaved when they have a medical skin condition. And a naked belly might lead to urinary tract infections (a serious bladder infection). When I got my MC kitten the breeder told me to pay attention that the little guy wouldn't lie on cold floor tiles until his protective belly fur was fully developed.

It is not painful. We don't inflict pain on cats. This isn't regular combing, and proper use of the de-shedding tool is long strokes, not short sections like you'd do with manual comb de-shedding. Also, bear in mind, the video speed has been doubled or tripled. It's not as fast as it looks. Thanks for watching.

Oh, you're right. He's in therapy now, of course, over the trauma of having mats removed and a bath. EYEROLL. We've been grooming him for five years. He's happy and doesn't mind the grooming process at all. Calm down. And thank you for the view!

My 20 lb. Maine coon would never put up with the rough handling this good boy does. I would never ri-i-ip the deshedding brush through her fur like this!

He doesn't climb trees or go hunting. He's an indoor cat. Obviously, we wouldn't trim the claws of an indoor/outdoor cat.

Do you have a long hair?we do and he hates to be groomed.so every 3 month he goes in to the vet for a shave under sedation.not having my cat matted and his butt full of poop.

Feel sorry for the cats who are matted, because mats are painful and unhealthy for them. Riggy is pain free, well-cared-for, well-loved, happy boy. We've been grooming him for almost five years, and he and his family are happy customers.

Please don’t feel sorry for him. He’s pampered to the extreme and he knows it. He absolutely loves laying on his back letting me rub his belly after a fresh haircut. And he loves not having to drag his ass across the floor if he has a dingleberry stuck on his ass fur. 😅 I especially love that last part as well.

Yes, Maine Coons, Siberian Forest and Norwegian Forest cats are meant to be furry. Their ancestors had to have incredibly thick undercoats to protect them from the extreme cold in the winter. But that thick under coat is made up of some of the most fine and silky hair that you will ever find, however if not brushed daily, it will mat together and can develop large clumps that can irritate the skin and cause sores underneath the matted clumps. I’m sure Mr. Riggy felt amazing after his bath and deshedding. My Maine Coon loved his bathes and occasional trims, especially his lion cut. He would actually act like he was king of the jungle as he pranced through the house for everyone to see!

The music was really bad. Loved the groom. I just watched a KZread where a guy cleaned a kitchen for 6 hrs and he just talked. So nice no icky music.

U don't know how to take care the cat .. So small shower room ... No No don't review any more .. Horrible ..

​@@9livesholistic753The local vet clinic has a bath setup literally almost identical to yours. Remember that because my sister showed me that in their clinic where she worked for 23+ years. That is not cruel.
