Mac, whenever you happen to travel by train, look out for the following 3 things mentioned on the train ticket - Train number, Coach number and Seat number. As you enter the railway station, look at the electronic display board, find your train number appearing on it and you will get to know the platform number against it from where the train departs. Next, go to that platform number and once the train arrives, look out for the Coach number, board it and occupy your seat number. The platform number is also announced on the public broadcast system along with the train number. Hope all clear. Travelling by train saves good money compared to air travel if time is not a constraint. I was really surprised to see that you were not served dinner in the train, which is normally included in the First AC ticket cost. Next time do check with the Ticket checker or the train staff when travelling by AC coach. Keep enjoying!

@@JohnFrost-gt1cs ok let assume you want to travel from Delhi to Agra, You will find that few trains are taking 1hr 45 mins to reach agra i.e Vande Bharat, Gatiman Express and Bhopal Shatabdi because they have permission to operate with a speed of 160km/hr whereas the other trains look at the rake type of Train Before booking, The ICF rake type train will have maxx speed of 110km/hr and these are old coaches whereas the LHB rake type have permission to operate at 130km/hr. Now the priority is that those trains on which dynamic fare is included are known as premium trains like Vande Bharat, Gatiman Express, Shatabdi, Rajdhani, Tejas, Duronto, these trains have highest priority after that weekly running trains like superfast trains, Sampark Kranti, Humsafar, and Then the normal express and mail train, after that the second class passengers trains and intercity trains which runs between two cities and probably halts at every station. The 95% chance of confirmation, means that all seats are already booked. In case someone cancels their tickets you have a chance to get your ticket confirmed. Train usually stops for about 5 mins at a smaller station and upto 20 minutes at bigger station. Occasionally upto 30 mins when they need to refill the supplies. Its strange they never gave you a cup of tea on a first class train for a 12hour journey. I travelled many times back and forth from delhi to nagaland taking the Rajdhani express AC third Tier they constantly provide food , snacks and teas on these trains. They trian you took looks more like a sleeper class except for the AC. Even the bathroom looks dirty and disgusting.

I totally agree with some of my fellow subscribers. Travelling by Indian Railways can be an amazing experience, provided you are familiar with the nuances. Being a foreignor, it can get really stressful as it's not organized , information is not clear and of course the crazy crowds can be over whelming. You handled it really well. I would highly recommend , reaching out to some local subscribers and getting some help when you travel by trains in India , so you can enjoy your journey . Thank you so much for your videos and wish you safe travels. Also if you need any help, tips , etc to experience kolkatta , pls reach out . I will be glad to help . Cheers 😊

That 95% confirmation you were talking was the probability of your waiting ticket getting confirmed, that probability is shown in the booking App on basis of previous data of that particular train, because lots of advance booking gets cancelled due to various reasons. If you get 80% chances of confirmation, most probably your seat will be confirmed on the journey day. Train travel is hectic in India, specifically in eastern parts, trains run late all the time, poor staff management resulting in poor services. You will get better experience once you move to other parts of India. Happy Traveling

I also like to travel by train in India but almost no train is on time so I generally prefer to travel by those trains that start at the station I want to depart from as they generally start on time. But this trick works at major train stations only. Also while travelling in Indian trains book tickets through IRCTC, it's a lot easier and hassle free.

I have been there in Kolkata in 2004 and 2006.I enjoyed my first time visit. In my second time traveling with the train to Bangalore, i had unforgettable accident that I was hit by a pole while looking for my seat from the step on door of the train while the train is already moving fast and i was thrown out of the train. But i could immediately get up from the ground and ran after the train and climbed on with my bleeding head. God saved my life from deathly accident 🙏 I miss my trip and time there with my friends. Sorry for inconveniences we faced the same with few people 😢. But we joyed the sight-seeing 😊 and creations of God in India. Thanks for sharing your videos Mac! If you want, you can also book uber and ola for cab services all across Kolkata. In that way youll have lesser chance of being scammed. Also, the way trains run in india are a bit different. Its the train that matters and not the class you book ( Frist class for example). There are express trains, superfast trains and then special high speed trains like rajdhani , vande Bharat etc. Make sure you book such trains if you want to be on time and get the most premium hospitality provided by indian railways.

You can book the tickets online although the Indian railways ticketing website is pretty ancient and hard to navigate. Also, at the station, use a prepaid-taxi, though it is not easy to find directions to those after you get down from the train. I am pretty sure you can use Uber too. The normal cabbies can be pretty dishonest and aggressive at times.
