This comment on the CX-70 is no reflection on the two of you. You are some of the best reviewers by far. What’s disappointing is Mazda just gave us a CX-90 with the 3rd row removed. Essentially that’s all it is. Unless there is a substantially lower price on the CX-70 (which there won’t be) why would you buy that over a CX-90. Especially since most owners of the CX-90 have the 3rd seat folded down to maximize luggage space.

CX-70 is nothing more than CX-90 minus 3rd row seats with slight style change. Totally confusing and redundant lineups. Both are basically fighting for exact same buyers. I love Mazda and my wife loves her CX-5 Carbon. While Mazda has great design/engineering team, their marketing team totally sucks. They should've made CX-70 slightly shorter with full off-road capability, just like what Lexus has done with their new GX550.

I was excited for the CX-70 because the CX-5 feels a bit too cramped compared to competitors. With it going a bit upstream in luxury I'm hoping that there will still be some afforadability in lower trims without sacrificing too many options. The black door handles and wheel surrounds on U.S. spec is a bit dissapointing too. Looking forward to seeing more later this year regarding pricing and trim levels.

Nice review, fellas. I do have to say, this is absolutely identical in dimensions and look (other than front and rear fascias) to the CX-90 but with the deletion of the third row. What a disappointment, Mazda! We should have gotten the "Americanized" version of the CX-60 sold overseas - this is truly its own vehicle. The CX-70's interior is identical to that of the CX-90's so this is nothing special or unique, other than color offerings. Mazda has bamboozled us!

Very nicely done. I like the direction that Mazda is taking with their large CUV. Sort of what Jeep is doing with offering a 2 and 3 row version of GC, this will prove to be a great decision on their behalf. Not everyone needs the 3 row, and I think the proportions seem better here vs the 3row. Mazda is furthering their blend of mainstream and luxury very well. While X5/GLE buyers may scoff at going to a Mazda, I can see some Lexus and Volvo buyers going with the CX-70.

Dear Mazda, If you expect people to buy your top trim versions of the CX-90 and CX-70 on either 3.3 inline six or PHEV, you can’t leave the lower trim and cladding around the wheels unfinished. They need to be painted body color or the cars look like a cheap rental car spec. You paint them on the Canadian spec cars, why short us in the USA? I don’t get all the negative comments and I wonder how many have even driven a CX90 (as comparison to the CX70 for the moment). Well I have, both the top trim CX90 and the PHEV version and I have to tell you they are very impressive. What so many comments here miss is exactly what these guys are pointing out: Mazda is going after the premium/sport market of BMW, Audi and even Mercedes with the engine options (better mileage!), handling and up-market luxury and they are doing so at Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander prices. A BMW x5 by comparison would be $15-$20K more than this CX70!

    4 ай бұрын

@@jackp2563 I have driven the CX90 (both standard and PHEV) not the CX70 yet. So I will give that one. However, I re-watched Car Confections video on the CX90, and of course this one and they said several times this CX70 is basically a 2-row version of the CX90. And both the exterior and wonderful interior seem to confirm that. What impressed my on the CX90 was honestly just about everything. I love the design of it (yes - that is subjective!) but the ride, the handling, the fit and finish was outstanding. The interior and all the tech was easily up there with Mercesdas - at $20K-$30 less (the top trim and the PHEV were both under $60K and just a tiny bit over the price of a top trim Honda Pilot. Oh and much better gas mileage than Honda which still only has one 3.6L engine choice. That is really what I was comparing it to. I have a 2020 Pilot EX-L and when the lease was up 6 months ago I took a hard look at the 2024 Pilot. I am not a huge Mazda fan (I did have 3 of the rotary Mazdas years ago), but because the dealership near me also owns other dealerships I am on their “list” and was sent an invitation to test drive the CX90, and a great lease offer. BTW: I have leased 7 Hondas and one Pacifica over the years. I ended up just purchasing my Pilot a few months ago mainly because Honda’s current rules were I can either trade it in for a new Honda or Acura, or purchase it. They had never. done that before but because the market is so tight for used cars they implemented that.I only had 30K miles on it and my credit union valued it about $12K over what my buyout was. So it all made sense. I am someone that I look at everything when it is time my leases were up. I never discount anything regardless of make of price. Mazda has basically focused now on the luxury market but at Honda and Toyota prices. And better warranties than both. Whether or not you are in the market -take a look! You might be surprised as I was.

If you dont need the 3rd row, you just fold them. Its as simple as that! last I checked it took me less than 5 sec to do it. You dont need a pretend "new" car for that. Well its basically same car with 3rd row chopped off BUT not the 3rd row arm rest and cup holder. Sorry to those who "does not need a 3rd row", you will have to live with 3rd row left over. Hope its not bothering you at the back of your mind.

Pretty disappointed. Why not just offer the 90 with a two row option and save the cx-70 name for our unavailable Mazda vehicles in the US

For Pete's sake, I just don't understand the logic of this vehicle. What is it's purpose as a different model from the CX90? It's virtually identical. Wouldn't it have made more sense to have just given the CX90 and option for two rows instead of designating a whole new vehicle name? I was eagerly waiting for Mazda to provide a smaller vehicle with two rows that had premium appointments and the inline 6 with rear drive. So disappointed here. Why didn't we get the CX60 in the USA? You already had the vehicle completed. Mazda is convoluting their lineup with big missteps like this. You have no vehicles for me. CX5 is too small. CX50 does not fit my needs. CX90 is too big and expensive. I wanted the CX70 as a US twin to the CX60 and you completely ignored that segment of buyers. What is your answer to this?

Most 2 row shoppers are not going to want something this big. If same dimensions as CX90 (which it is), this whale is 7 inches longer than an X5, 6 inches wider and 1 inch shorter. Heck, it's even an inch longer than a 3-row Honda Pilot! No thanks. Give me an updated CX5 with a hybrid option and we can talk.

Same car, same size, seems to share the engines too, Mazda has an extra model just to offer a 3rd extra row, As someone from a region that has nothing much to do with Mazdas and Peugeots, i always thought them as some luxury brands like the big germans. Post 2016 Mazdas seemed that way until i realized those are just mainstream rivals to Hondas and Toyotas. (Not that those are cheaper brands) would say less expensive cars and much of consumer products unlike luxury products. With the addition 0 behind car names, Mazda seems to directly compete against the big boys. Guess they spice things a bit better in terms of drive train options, Rival cars have every options from, 4 and 6 cylinder turbo petrols and diesels to hybrids to Fire breathing V8s. Guess For a brand that just entered the luxury segment, Mazdas gotta fight a long way up.
