This may seem like a small detail to some, a step back to others, but I LOVE the fact Mazda resisted the urge all other car manufacturers seem to have with making the instrument cluster and infotainment nothing but flat screens. Sure that may be the "modern" thing, but I vastly prefer the separate hooded instrument binnacle...regardless if it's analog or digital. Mazda is just all around catering to my personal tastes these days...and a big reason why my daily is a 2021 Mazda 3 turbo hatch.😉

You have to get OEM Hitch and Harness from Mazda to have Towing mode. When plugged to a trailer, Towing mode will replace Sport mode.

The only positive thing here is that you are not alone comparing the CX-50 to the CX-5. But you are just as wrong, doing that. The CX-50, has nothing, whatsoever, to do with the CX-5, except it has a 5 in the model name. Why do so many car reviewers keep making this mistake? The CX-50 is the CX-30's big brother and the CX-30 is the Mazda 3's big brother. All three are of the same family - same Mazda 3 platform, same torsion-beam rear suspension. The CX-5 has no other family members - it stands alone. CX-70, CX-90 and CX-9 are all of the same family as they are all built on the CX-9 chassis. How can otherwise seemingly knowledgeable 'car guys and girls' keep getting this wrong?

Just bought a 2024 Premium in Polymetal, didn’t care for the ride in the premium plus and the 20’s seem to be a little louder on the road. Mazda should make the wheels an option if someone would rather the 18’s on a higher trim. I know I can just buy aftermarket ones, but that makes thing more expensive

There is a setting in the infotainment that controls how the door unlock functions. I have mine set to unlock all doors on the first press of the unlock button so that I don’t have to deal with the annoying situation you mention in the video. I also have it set to auto-lock when I walk away. That has sadly functioned pretty inconsistently on my CX-30, though… it doesn’t work right about 1/10 times, but at least with the Mazda app on my phone I get notified within a few minutes that my door is unlocked and I can then lock it remotely through the app. I just bought a 2024 CX-50, and I’m really hoping that it winds up being more consistent on that front.

I saw this test driven by BRIAN Manske (pro race driver) and he said it's PERFECT for drivers...and also very good in snow- which is what I need.. I'll take HIS word over most reviewers beause he knows HOW to drive one correctly..they way they're designed to be driven.. (not knocking regular reviewers- that real info is important).. the only debate I have - is whether to get the turbo or to get regular naturally aspirated one- and install a SUPERCHARGER (about the same cost to install- but MUCH cheaper to fix if ever needed- and MUCH better for the engine and driving).

Killer color combo! That interior is beautiful in that color. Incredible looks, and design. What kills it for me is the torsion beam rear. It’s so Un-Mazda. I also wish they would slim down the wheel arch cladding by at least 50 percent. I’m crossing my fingers for a Turbo Hybrid. ✌️

I have the same setup in my Mazda 3 turbo hatch and can honestly say you rarely notice it. The only time I'm reminded it's not independent rear is like going over a speed bump in a parking lot, or driving on one of those awful stretches of concrete pavement with expansion joints...but those aren't pleasant in any car. Other than that the handling is great, the lack of multi-link rear isn't noticed.

My only complaint is it does not have lane assist like my old Honda Civic or other competitors. The lane assist works OK under 65KPH with good lanes. It is a nice change from Honda. It is a nice ride which is what sold me. The fuel endurance is an acceptable cost for what you get. I estimated it costs $20 more to fill up than my ultra efficient Honda civic in CAD and I get roughly the same milage from the given tank. It is completely worth it and I would never get a hybrid or EV again. They are complete gimmicks and do not work. The Sicon dessert color was the best too! Best care we have owned so far out of all of them:)

I’ve owned three Mazdas with the latest version of the infotainment system over the course of five years, and this also annoyed the hell out of me the whole time. It was particularly aggravating with Sirius XM. I could hit the mute button, which pauses what’s playing… until the XM Replay buffer runs out, at which point it would suddenly resume playing at full volume! It wasn’t until literally two months ago that I discovered you can select “OFF” as an audio source and actually turn off audio altogether, while still being able to use the other infotainment functions.

@@jefft9729Yeah, I’d also like to be able to do what you’re describing, but sadly I haven’t figured out a way to do so. You can turn the entire infotainment system off-can’t recall how off the top of my head, I’m not with my car at the moment. But that turns off the clock and everything else, too. And I think it might still resume your source when you turn the car back on? My workaround for a long time has just been to launch a music player like Spotify in CarPlay, play something briefly, then pause it. This way the audio will work for other functions like maps, but shouldn’t auto-play or randomly resume at any point. Really silly that there’s not a more elegant way to do that, though. As for wireless CarPlay reliability, I just purchased my first model (a 2024 CX-50) that has that feature, but it hasn’t arrived yet as it’s being shipped from out of state. So I don’t know what my reliability will be, but I can tell you that I’ve heard of a lot of vehicles from different manufacturers having reliability problems with wireless CarPlay, so I don’t know that we can say this is a Mazda issue per se. I’ve also heard a lot of folks saying that the wireless charger in the CX-50 is weak and doesn’t work if you have any kind of case on the phone, so I imagine I’ll probably wind up using the wire most of the time anyway. My wired CarPlay experience in my current CX-30 has fortunately been pretty solid, minus a few weird bugs here and there that I can tell are definitely internal iOS issues. Those are usually fixed by disconnecting and reconnecting the cable or sometimes, rebooting the phone… which is annoying and unsafe to do while driving, but what are ya gonna do…

Just test drove the NA premium trim. I love the look of cx-50 way more than the 5 or its competition, but was very underwhelmed by the ride quality and harshness of the seats. I was getting uncomfortable just after a short test drive. Maybe the leather seats in the upper trims are better. The handling also didn’t feel as good as what I’d expect from Mazda. Despite getting a good OTD price i walked away. CX-50 nails it for looks, but falls short on comfort, ride quality, and tech.

@@yournightmare9999 I'm not sure how 2 vehicles that are essentially mechanically identical could have one be 'way better'. Looks are obviously subjective but IMO the CX-50 is much nicer. The CX-5 looks like the generic egg that most SUV's look like these days and its getting very dated. The CX-5 rides slightly better and is slightly quieter due to the IRS and quieter glass. If you get the 18' wheel pkg on the CX-50 the ride difference between the two is barely noticeable and the change in steering/suspension tuning/damping for the 2024 CX-50's makes the difference very small even with the larger wheels. The trade off for the slightly lesser ride quality with the CX-50 is an extra 1500Lbs in towing capacity from the torsion beam rear suspension and an extra inch of ground clearance which may or may not make a difference depending how you use your vehicle. Obviously neither is made for serious towing or off roading. These are both very good vehicles. I personally prefer the CX-50 based mostly on looks and the fact that the CX-5 seems very narrow when you sit in it but hard to go wrong with either as I think both seem nicer in terms of design and material quality compared to other SUV's in the price/size range. Good chance the resale value of the current CX-5 will be less than the CX-50 due to its age and even more so when the new gen CX-5 is released but I bet there will be some deals to be had on leftover current gen CX-5's once the new version is released.
