2025 Ioniq 5 N Full Review - On Road and Laguna Seca - w Jason Cammisa and Vin Anatra - 1Run Pilot

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Welcome to 1RUN, Hagerty's newest experimental car-review show. In this show, veteran automotive journalist Jason Cammisa teams up with Ex-Hoonigan Internet personality Vin Anatra to review the newest and latest cars from the true enthusiast perspective.

In this episode, Jason and Vin take the wheel of the brand-new 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, the world's first electric hot-hatch. With its Giugiaro-inspired retro looks and 641-hp dual-motor powertrain, the first electric N product is fast and beautiful.
But is it something that true automotive enthusiasts could live with? Is it time for an electric hot-hatch? And more important, do Hyundais' gimmicky modes detract from the car's overall appeal?
What's perhaps most surprising is how the guys feel about N e-Shift, a sound- and g-force simulation of a traditional ICE powertrain. You'll have to watch to understand.
Make sure to stay tuned for Jason's trademark drifting and sliding around the famed Laguna Seca racetrack - with unfiltered observations and a couple laughs.

    I agree with prior comments around microphone positioning and camera angles. I think a lot of your viewers see Cammisa + Hagerty and now associate that combo with movie level production videos so I could see that hurting this experimental run. I think that if the level of production goes up to match your other videos and if they do a brief walk around of the car before the drive - this could be a successful series of videos. Best of luck and thank you for continuing to invest in the industry and enthusiasts.

    how they over delivered?, it is a SUV sized vehicle, with 2.5 tons of weight with the driver inside, no manual gearbox, no engine and a laughable range, when driven at a decent pace; slower on the Ring than hot hatches with more than half the power...aka, a car for posers not for drivers! Please tell me how they over delivered with enthusiast drivers in mind, because I see zero proof of that. In fact I see quite the opposite, this being the perfect poser vehicle.

    @@eugenux You're completely missing the point of the car. The car is meant to be a fun, trackable car that accepts the possibility of an EV-only future. You can do whatever you want with this thing, who cares if it doesn't have a big engine and if its not the fastest thing on the road (even though it'll still beat >95% of street cars). The UI in the Elantra N is barely okay for conveying the meanings and impacts of the settings changes, and managing your drive modes. Once you have your setups for regular driving, you barely have to touch it again. With all the extra functions and settings of the Ioniq 5 N Hyundai should provide a bluetooth connection to a PC or tablet that have better descriptions and/or videos. Then you can be the "guy with a laptop next to him" from all the movies. Then Zack from The Smoking Tire mentioned sound and performance "packs". I know BMW would sue, but what if you could add the sound of an E30 M3, the same shift points, and torque curve. Then swap between "your cars". I would add my entire previous collection if possible. I absolutely love that they are trying. Most companies tout EVs as silent commuter cars. They saw a thing they are being encouraged to do by regulations and thought about the enthusiast. They made a really good effort and listened to all the people whining on the Internet about the soulless nature of EVs. Bravo Hyundai. Bravo!

    Evolution sound was base on sequential gear. If you've heard the TCR Class sound, you'll agree with me. Just listen to the sound of the Hyundai TCR in Nürburgling . If someone says he don't like that sound, he don't know about seqeuential gear box.

  • @maxtorque2277

    @maxtorque2277

    Ай бұрын

    Not sequential you mean "straight cut" as in the whining high pitched sound is caused by a motorsports transmission having a straight cut tooth profile for maximum strength, rather than the helical profile of a normal road car. Because each gear tooth hits it's neighbours mating tooth across it's full width at one moment, this produces a very specific set of nodal frequencies, whereas the helical teeth profile slides together the teeth in a long smooth action. That means less noise (quieter in absolute terms) but also a more white noise because the fundamental mating frequency is less dominant. It also means less absolute strength, perhaps counter intuitively, as you might immagine smacking the whole tooth together is worse than gently sliding them together, but with the straight cut profile, the entire width of the profile is always carrying the load, whereas a helical profile causes a point load, and hence high stress/deformation zone as the teeth first meet and eventually part.......

    This should've had b-roll of the car, both static and driving interspersed throughout the video, or at the very least multiple cabin shots of the presenters. The flow between Jason Camissa and Vin Anatra is fantastic, and I hope we get to see more of this!

    13:59 I think the reason they are simulating the Elantra N, is due to the fact that they can extensively test and replicate the feelings and noises of an Elantra N. But I do agree that they will eventually do OTA updates to incorporate more noises. Start with what you know.

    These two are perfect together. The reaction to the "Supersonic" afterburner sound effect is priceless. If there was a bit of post-production b-reel around the ongoing conversation, that would be great (like showing the 21" forged wheels, brakes, triangle CHMSL, etc). Really well done here.
