I love that you're talking about adult gymnastics when I just started adult gymnastics. I started as a beginner so maybe I will compete silver next year. I don't really know if I'll ever do any major tumbling but getting to try out skills on every apparatus is fun. Completing turns and small jumps on beam feels like a big accomplishment. I encourage anyone at whatever level you might be to give it a try.

barring injury we have two that can go up on all 4 events; i still hate the 3 up 3 count format esp now that they've gone back to 5 person team. there are so many good gymnasts fighting to be that 3rd person on each event if gabby and suni both can't be competitive on all 4 events don't be surprised if one or neither of them make the team. can't really put more than 1 specialist on this team, if any, nor should they.

I'm always disappointed at how the US default these days is 1 vault (also a default: the idea that ballet doesn't exist to improve artistry). No reason the US can't get 2 individual vault medals. We should be crushing that.

1.38 It’s called tricking, they often train in gymnastic gyms and also in parks when there’s grass, perform amazing skills without any regard to form, and they’re a super tight knit community. There are tons of KZread videos w tutorials and overall wholesomeness

I wouldn’t want to be the people picking the 5 person team. Beyond Biles and Jones (a lock or pretty much a lock) you have a ridiculous number of gymnasts that can make the 5 person team: Chiles, Lee, DiCello, Lincoln, Blakely, Robertson, Carey, Douglas, Sumanasekera, Thomas, Wong, McClain, and any surprise new seniors.

For getting a skill named after you, do you need to land it properly? I know that’s a silly question but I know If an athlete does it at a international competition it will get named after them. Does it need to be landed well in order for it to be named after you?

You have to put it to your feet (or catch the bars). Basically perform it without falling.

You need to successfully complete it--no poorly executed skills. I don't believe taking a step counts against it. Also it needs to be at least a D skill. Please correct me if I got this wrong.

Simone didn't land the YDP vault on both feet perfectly but she stayed within the lines. Her deduction was because her coach stood on the mat for safety reasons.

You have to complete every step of the skill…..if you forget one step it’s downgraded, and if you’re lucky enough you can still have the lesser valued skill named after you (so long as you also submitted the potential downgrade).

Just here laughing at all the people picking Douglas to be on the team before she even competed at any competition. I have no idea how she will do when she has to deal competition pressure, but picking her now is ridiculous. Only Biles is a lock and Jones is pretty much a lock (assuming no major injury or some out of the blue drastic drop in ability/performance). The last 3 spots are up for grab for a ridiculous number of people.

No, top 5 AA and top 4 on 2 events is fine for the team. Suni has to get top 2 on UB and BB if she isn't top 6 AA for a chance.

6.5+ for suni is would be amazing but pretty unrealistic. I love her sm but beam is such a toss up. One wobble changes the mental and the strategy. Atm my prediction for the team is simone, shilese, joscelyn, Kaliyah, and a toss up between gabby and suni. Alternative = Leanne.

I think I have more appreciation for her gymnastics now than I did in the past. I'm equally excited for her and Suni. There's nothing wrong though with preferring one set of gymnastics over another. There are some gymnasts that I can acknowledge are good who I just don't enjoy watching.
