Your advice about Peer space literally just saved me THOUSANDSSSSSSS!!!! I found a new venue that charges by the hour, a gorgeous historical home and now instead we are doing a cocktail party reception and a food truck. Because of this shift and not having a "formal" dance floor we will do a playlist instead of a DJ and the place is to gorgeous that i can cut the flower budget too!!! So in 24 hrs our wedding went from 11k to 5k!!!! Thank you so much!

My husband and I got married at a Christian Retreat Center in the mountains of TN. Our families and friends rented out 9 of their chalets which were only $100 per night and served as their accommodations for the weekend. The Retreat Center then allowed us the use of their beautiful field for the ceremony and the entire lodge for the reception for FREE! The location was beyond beautiful as it is deep within the Cherokee National Forrest. Everyone loved staying in the chalets and having 2-3 days together for this semi destination wedding. (It was about a 4 our drive for most of our guests and others flew in from other places.) We rented chairs and tables as the retreat’s were not the most aesthetic. Only a handful of weddings have been done there, but the people serving there were so kind and generous. Our entire wedding budget was $6,000 and it was Pinterest Perfect!

We hosted a reception in 2008 at an Italian restaurant. We guaranteed to fill/pay for all 100 seats. The restaurant offered 21:24 two main entrees, fresh flowers on the tables, real napkins and tableware, dessert. Plus a special flaming dessert for the couple. Music was playing in the background ( no dancing room, however). It was lovely. We've heard that they've held other wedding receptions since. We started a trend!

We're getting married at an activity center at a county park. Current price is $100 per hour, plus event insurance. When I did the math on doing it in our backyard, the price of a tent plus tables and chairs alone out priced the full service venue, before we talk ADA and bathrooms.

Peer space is also a great idea. My husband and I are having our wedding at the Resort we are staying at for the week. We are paying 650 for 8 hours. Amazing I know!!! With a prep Kitchen a reception area and a second room for either a kid space or a changing space. We are super excited, and they have a garden BOOM! Ceremony space our guest will have to stand but the ceremony will be less than 10-15 minutes. I feel so bless. I was so overwhelmed with all of the details, we went on vacation, and I just so happen to ask about meeting spaces and the lady said yeah, we do right upstairs!!! MIC Drop!!! Venue under 1000 dollars is possible. Also staying there was not necessary.

I’m getting married at the same church where my parents got married, my grandparents helped get built, my aunts and uncles still attend, and where my childhood minister preaches. Because of all of these things, my fiancé and I are getting a major discount on the cost of the church and newly built gym and our minister marrying us. My only problem with the venue is that I have no idea how to decorate it. My dad and I are trying to think of ways to make the gym not look like a metal pre-fabricated building, specifically trying to “lower” the visual ceiling by somehow hanging string lights across the area we will be using. Also, I hadn’t ever imagined I would get married inside, so I’m now stuck trying to figure that out.

Draping fabric might be gorgeous on the ceiling. Be glad you are inside so you don’t have to worry about the weather. Balloons on the tables also help reduce ceiling height visuals if allowed (they might set off fire alarms in some cases). Candles add warmth.

YES! Most (if not all) Catholic parishes in the US have a LARGE parish hall that is capable of having HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE inside (depending on the type/formality of reception the couple wishes to have), and most allow alcohol on the premises (mostly beer and wine only, but if you want a full bar, you will need to go the DIY route).

A ceremony and reception in your own church or synagogue remains one of the most affordable options, and of course it carries the weight of tradition behind it. The sanctuary likely needs minimal decoration, and the social hall is likely already stocked with everything you'd get from a rental company.

Getting married at a Bed & Breakfast this summer. They have a beautiful garden/yard space for photos and an outdoor event, because it only has a few rooms (compared to a larger hotel or venue) it wasn’t expensive to book out all the rooms for exclusive access. plus we have a nice place to spend the night right there on the property, extra rooms for friends if needed, as well as a more than one bedroom/bathroom so I can get ready in one room and my husband to be in another (no transportation to venue needed). Lastly it hit the mark for having an outdoor feel, but having access to a proper washroom for some of the people in my life who need a proper washroom due to disabilities. Lastly the day of my wedding and the morning after we have a full breakfast provided ❤ I wasn’t picturing this originally but was googling ideas and found this sweet spot through some research of our area. We are the first couple to get married at this property so it’s a unique and personal experience with a less expensive price tag 🥂

We are doing our ceremony at an overlook on the San Antonio River. $100/hour, we really only need an hour. Guest count is limited so that's a drawback. Luncheon afterwards will probably cost $2000. We are having a full blown reception later, but because we need it for less time, it allowed us to splurge a little on the venue for just the 6 hours.

Our daughter married and had her reception at a town park. Rental was like $100 for the whole afternoon. There was a stage with benches, pavilion, bathrooms, picnic tables, trash cans. The downside was no electricity or kitchen. We had to carry in - carry out every little thing, including soap for the bathrooms. However, it was a lovely spot. That said, an outdoor event in a southern state in the middle of the summer can be challenging. The day was very hot & humid. We missed being able to have fans. As a result, people did not stay long after the ceremony & finger food. Still, it was a lovely spot for a small gathering.😊

Here in the South, "Wedding Barns" are getting quite popular. Many will have options in the hundreds of dollars range up to multiple thousands, depending on your wants/needs. Many people opt for a formal wedding and casual reception but some are one or the other entirely. As you said , Public parks are also nice (and possibly free or very low cost) & many state historic sites are an option. A lot depends on the date and season, and in some of these cases, the reception may have to be elsewhere. I hope this helps.

One of my good friends got married last summer (well, they got married in 2020 but had the party last summer) at the camp that his family went to when he was a kid. It was a sentimental place for him, beautiful space right on the shore of Lake Erie, with cabin or tent camping included for anyone wanting to spend the night. I'm not sure how much it cost, but I can't imagine it was too bad given that it was a family campground. There were picnic tables outside and your typical hall-style seating inside (where people really only went for the bingo game being hosted). The food was buffet style tacos, drinks were served in a serve-yourself style where each category of beer had a rustic metal tub of ice around the dance area, with a table for wine, and they recruited close friends/family members to each be responsible for 1 hour of time where they made sure everything was stocked (this involved maybe 5 minutes of actual work if something needed a refill, it was simply their job for that hour to keep an eye on it).

So anther fun thing with parks, botanical gardens, and beaches at least for those of us in Hawaii and a factor MANY people in the wedding groups I'm in do not consider: the number of restrictions. Our botanical gardens here have the following caveats to their use for weddings, aside from a permit of course: -must observe garden hours (most close at 4pm) -you cannot restrict or prohibit other visitors use of the garden -limited parking, if the garden has an entry fee it must be paid for all guests -no alcohol, receptions, or throwing rice -No musical instruments of sound amplification (some will allow with a special permit) -No tents, chairs, tables, and similar items (special permit required but not common) -Separate permit for photography, in addition to garden permit For beaches, you need a special permit because weddings are considered commercial activity but you are not allowed to set up chairs, tables, or other similar large items that may obstruct public access to the beach and I believe there are also restrictions on alcohol and sound amplifications. Parks have fewer restrictions once you get the permit, but some fun ones include: -shall not "construct, use, place, occupy, leave, or in any other many, situate any tent" -shall not " Engage in or conduct any activity that creates any sound, noise or music exceeding 80 dBA sound pressure level taken at a point 10 feet in front of the source for a cumulative time period of at least five minutes when measured with a calibrated American National Standard Institute (ANSI) Type I or Type II sound level meter with weighting set at “A” and response set at “slow” except any activity that is sponsored by the city or the department of parks and recreation or authorized by permit issued by the city" I share that information simply because many people come to Hawaii to get married thinking they can "just get married on the beach" and because if you can comply with all those restrictions parks are by far the most affordable venue we've got out here in a market that caters to destination and luxury weddings. One really cool venue we have here in Honolulu is the Ho'okupu Center. It's a green facility, you get a discount if you use their in-house catering (which has an incredible menu and is locally sourced, mostly farm-to-table) that for guest counts around ours is still cheaper than most other base prices for venues out here. It's waterfront and basically a big open air pavillion with doors on the side. The main downsides are that you can only book up to a year in advance and it's in Kewalo Basin, so there are a lot of homeless people in the parks nearby and often in the parking lot before you get to the center.

We got married at a private campground with cabins and I would definitely recommend this option. It was great to have something a step up from camping. You will probably want a shower before your wedding! The venue sometimes did kids camps so they could accommodate a big group with had an industrial kitchen, lots of bathroom stalls, good staffing and a big space to eat together. We got to spend a lot more time with our guests beause there was a big gathering area. Many of the kids camps required sleeping in bunk beds with shared bathrooms which might not work for everyone. The prices were great and it was really fun to have everyone staying together the whole weekend.

I’m lucky enough to know of a BEAUTIFUL venue that is FREE!!! I live in Montana and there’s this place called Ryan’s Dam near a city called Great Falls, also semi closed to Havre and Fort Benton. All you have to do is make sure you book your weekend (yes you get THE WHOLE WEEKEND from some time on Friday (I don’t remember the time, until late Sunday night, early Monday morning) you literally pick up the keys to the clubhouse that you are welcome to use if you want, you have access to the island, which is accessible by a really sturdy wide wood and metal bridge. The only thing that is asked of you is to PICK UP AFTER YOUR EVENT. That’s literally it. Tables and chairs are provided, it’s GORGEOUS with tons of trees to help provide shade. And you’re literally WATERFRONT VIEWS with waterfalls in the background!!! There are also 2-3 hut type things that have electricity in them so you can actually have your caterers preparing the food on site. I believe there’s a kitchen of at least some kind in the clubhouse. Another venue that I found when I was searching in and around the Great Falls area was this place that is literally called The Venue it’s a nicer barn type building that comes complete with tables and chairs, but THE BEST PART, there’s a shed right outside the back doors that is FULL of all different kinds of decor that you are welcome to use whatever you want as long as you return it!! I believe this was going to cost approximately $2,500 for a FULL DAY and there was no set time that you had to be out. It has beautiful city views and if I remember correctly you could also see a little bit of mountains and the Missouri River off in the distance. There was a clearing in the field behind the barn that would be a beautiful place to put an arch or something. Another place is airports sometimes have event spaces. My now ex (good riddance) and I were planning to get married outside in the amphitheater of The Lewis and Clark Interpreters Center (4 hours for $200 if I remember correctly) beautiful Missouri River views and not a lot needed for decor because of the natural backdrop. Then we were going to have our reception in one of the banquet rooms at the Great Falls International Airport for, I believe it was $1,800 but I don’t remember because I have been free of him for over 3 years and I didn’t keep any of the wedding planning stuff for the wedding we were planning.

Some of the guests had to purchase a ticket to ride the lift, but without skis or a snowboard, it was very cheap. The reception was at a neighborhood community center. Since my dad lived in the neighborhood, it was $200/ day. So she rented it for 2 days to have plenty of time for cleanup. It was a beautiful little building.

The plan is to do a micro wedding in our home. Instead of gifts we're asking people to help us renovate and build things that we will continue to use in our home, my father-in-law is going to weld an artch and we're going to grow our favorite flower on it to get married under. My father will build a farm house table for the reception and we'll be able to use for our dinning table. I'm even going to try to convince my bother to lay new flooring. We'd never be able to do all of this anywhere else. We'll be able to see tangible reminder of our comment to eachother and the love of our community. Plus new flooring who doesn't love that!

Jamie what is your thoughts on community centres not having a contract in place? We asked for one they said they don't do them.

Is there something you’d suggest on how to make things special with limited space? We will be at a reenactment so there will be less table space than I’d like. We have the food absolutely covered, it’s just the table service and seating I’m more concerned about
