We hired a co-ordinator for a 2hr zoom call about 4 weeks before and I went through everything with her. It was less than £100. And it helped me make sure I hadn't missed anything. We did digital invites and only printed them for the boomers ( at a local uni print shop), we paid for a website instead and it was better. I did my own makeup and nails, no fresh flowers, way less than 10 grand.

I've got a friend who got engaged earlier this month and is getting married mid July. I don't know what the budget is or who's paying (I think it's a pretty tight budget, though), but she found a pretty invitation design and sent invited via Facebook Messenger - some people might think it's tacky (I think it's smart), but sending invites online would save on postage, and if you find a design template that's free, that can save a little more money, so maybe sending invites electronically could be a good option for couples who are on a budget who want a little extra for something else.

Other tips: if you're looking at wedding venues, look at times other than the weekend. We just booked a great venue for the cost of $2602 because we're doing it the Tuesday after Labor Day. We feel that we're giving people enough notice that they can take off work, and it'll be a nice extended weekend because it's after Labor Day. And they understand that we're trying to save money and this is a way to do that. Another perk of the place we picked is they actually provide day of coordination for free which is huge, means we won't need to hire a coordinator at all. And just know that if you feel dejected because all the venues are expensive, know there are cheaper options out there. Just keep looking and don't give up until you find one that meets your budget! Also in terms of officiant: you can have one of your friends get licensed to do it and have them do it for you. You'll save money, plus it's a more personalized, fun option than using a traditional officiant (especially if you're not religious).

in Portugal most wedding venues include food, drinks, tables, chairs and linens and some even decorations.. our venue includes all of this for 75€ per person (basic menu).. so it's really weird for me to realize that in the USA you have to get everything separate, that must be stressful

The MOST beautiful wedding I ever attended was done for 5 K- family member had house on Chesapeake bay, the sister was a florist, the family COOKED everything, they made their own favors etc. I remember my aunt’s getting married in the 80’s and it was truly friends and family ALL DIY’ing everything and that was the experience and excitement-all that bonding with your girls-and I personally think that some of those white prom dresses are sooo much more beautiful than the big tacky dresses!!

just got married using all of your videos! I actually found a venue that cost more but included all the rentals, decor, speakers, and reallocated my budget there and helped make things easier. Also used DJ griffs document and it helped me so so much-thank you! I would recommend getting a coordinator because day off all of the toilets overflowed right before our ceremony- and I didn’t even know until the issue was taken care of and she fought for us when working with the venue- best money I spent out of our whole budget! I had friend do my florals at cost, knew a baker who did our cake, and bought a sample dress. Even though it took a lot of work leading up to it, I couldn’t have wanted anything more! Thank you Jamie!

I’m getting married in June of 2023 found my venue that I absolutely love! Price? $3720 and that price includes tables, chairs, decor, centerpieces, DJ, bartender, lighting, our own personal thrown chair, my ceremony will be held at a beautiful church in my town for what? wait for it! $1000! And that includes the wedding coordinator! the decor! the sound man! and the officiant! And Day before rehearsal! I think $4720 for all that is pretty good! Lucky for us we have a friend who does photography and he’s only charging us $400! We’re still working out the catering situation because we have a guest list of 190 people but so far my wedding planning is going great! ♥️ my budget is under $10,000 I think I can do it!

My wedding is in October of this year and we have everything planned, set, and are now just paying it all off. We got the venue we wanted that included the DJ, tables, linens, day of coordinator and that was a huge cost saver. Thrifted decor, planned a dessert table instead of a three tier cake, flowers are fake so we can keep them forever, catering is pizza bc it’s our favorite food and invites were bought on sale. Photographer is a professional but also our friend so she discounted us. All we had to do was skim our guest list down to 80 people and we’re having a dream wedding for 10.5k🖤

A family friend is the DJ 500$ another friend is the caterer 700$ the venue is my brothers back yard free$ the tents, tables, draping rentals 400$ ish. Then we’re getting disposable plates, cups, napkins etc. from Amazon and we’re DIYing our own dessert table. Everything will be about $4k in total. And no coordinator day of but we could if we wanted thanks to saving everywhere else. We had a $6k budget!

@@Rumadewe are planning for ours in Marylebone and then reception in my mum’s garden. It’s ridiculous the cost of venues in the UK.

@GemM-vc4qr budget was £15,000 but we ended up spending more around the £17,000 mark 😬 Ceremony venue: Fitzrovia Chapel. £3,500 Private dining at Fortnum & Mason crypt afterwards for 9 people: £1,200 One night at St Pancras Renaissance Hotel: £490 We hired a coordinator for the party because it was fairly last minute by British standards- we got engaged in November, started planning December, then married mid April. She was fantastic but cost about £2,500. Then garden party costs were DJ, marquee and picnic table hire, cake, teppanyaki catering for about 55 people, loads of booze, grazing table with cheeses etc, decorations, and fireworks. Other costs were things like transport. Platinum wedding rings were about £2,300. We went to Cartier in Selfridges to have a really lovely experience, because the price was the same as the high street for the same quality metal. My mum made my dress and I made my veil from fabric I bought in Japan- so in terms of material it was only about £160! Accessories, undies etc came to about another £250. Hair and make up for ceremony was expensive as my original booking fell through. That was about another £300. My husband rented a tux from a shop in Chelsea and that was about £100. Really good deal. I had a kimono and Japanese hair done for the garden party and that was another £300. We had two photographers, a pro for the ceremony and after dinner shots in London; and then mates rates from a pro friend at the garden party. Combined cost of that was about £1000. All in all, considering what we got for the price and the experience, I do think it was worth it. When I was looking at prices before we got officially got engaged, I was really shocked. Initially we wanted to get married in the Barbican conservatory but the packages started at £16k and it just seemed so restrictive. For that price guests got half a bottle of wine, 3 canapés, and a very strict 3 course meal. Having a party with a spread that people could return to made sense. I didn't want anyone feeling underfed or restricted with drink, haha!

I looked at a venue on a Friday and Saturday night $1000 more to use it on a Saturday. Only reason we’ve decided to To a backyard wedding is the rental time. Both our families like to party till really late at night

My wedding is in 3 weeks and our ceremony/ reception are in the same location. so the space is required to be flipped. My venue is more of an airbnb space, so there won't be any staff to set up tables, chairs, linen, and decor. I asked my bridal party and groomsmen to help with setting those up...they don't really want to. both my Fiance and I don't have big families, so we're relying on our party. That's got me stresses out, because I want everyone to have a good time, and not think about having to set up/breakdown. I've thought of hiring a Coordinator, but since they don't do set up or break down, I see no point. I'm now at the point where I wish we just elope...

Love your content! Not sure if I missed it, how do you handle dinnerware, etc... when using a non traditional wedding venue? So far quotes are at about 1k for these items. 😬

Wedding invites!!!! money saver!!!! Create a website through a wedding planning site totally free and you can send it out to your guests. They can keep up to date with events and rsvp accommodations and no need to be spending 300-500 on stationery.

I'm really surprised how much people spend on weddings in other countries. In Sweden the average wedding cost is about $6000, and that is including rings. I'm not sure why it's such a difference, but we do like to keep stuff very minimalist and practical. Like doing buffé food, DIY a lot and just focus on the entertainment side (like having games etc) instead of the decorations and "fancy" things.. and we also aren't too social so it's usually around 50 guests or so, which helps :P

I think it depends too. I come from a HUGE family (both on my mom and my dad's side), so it's not uncommon for weddings to have 100+. One thing that does help with the budget though is on my maternal grandpa's side, much of the work is done by the family, so it waylays the cost tremendously because of the connections and discounts that can come with a big family. I have cousins who do all the food because they're ranchers, so they know how to BBQ and most of the time I've had family members do the cakes (one cousin wanted cupcakes hehe). I've lost count on how many weddings I've helped out in. So yeah, that part of the family is very low maintenance, the only thing we don't cut corners on is the photography.

Some of these prices just aren't doable for California brides in 2022. I'm having mine at a county owned park and the rental was 3k because we have to come in the morning to set up the venue (more hours were added). Also these places require you to use their bartender services which is much higher than a 10k budget. I think 10k budget was doable a few years ago when you got married but in 2022 not very possible. I have no florist, no wedding planner, no videographer, no makeup/hair team, no catering company, been buying everything used & DIY everything, using wood flowers & using a restaurant to deliver food, only renting chairs & tables, using plastic plates/utensils. I've tried my hardest to stay at 10k but with 150 people it wasn't possible in that small budget so it more likely now 16-17k 🤦‍♀️

So I LOVE Ms Jamie. I wish I could’ve had her for my wedding day coordination and/or could’ve at least allocated my budget to be able to afford a wedding day coordinator in general. But I also thought that I should say this (& while of course this is all IMOP (in my own opinion) and while I know not everyone will agree due to everyone being completely different with their tastes and budgets etc) I just wanted to say that I just listened to the podcast episode (that I believe correlated to this episode on KZread) & I also love her podcast, but just didn’t agree with one point, again at least for me and our wedding, when she said something about how you essentially shouldn’t have a videographer nor any wedding video at all and just put that money only towards photography. Of course for some that may be best/work for them. But I don’t necessarily agree with that and I prefer what we did which was place less money into photography and had someone local that was able to work with our budget and put the extra money toward a professional videographer. Of whom also was able to give a few discounts. No bride is the same and no vendor nor area will be the same so I also understand costs will be different in different countries and even in different states of the US. And each year costs go up. All is just reality, unfortunately. But I truly truly do not want so many brides to think (especially if they want a video already to watch years from their day) that a videographer is a waste of money. I actually not only got SO much better footage from my videographer but you also just can’t put a price on a good wedding video that you can not just watch with your spouse but also with friends and family years to come. Yes you also can’t really put a price on good wedding photography either but I just preferred to have a wedding video moreso over the photography. That’s what meant the most to me and us. And a photo is just a moment in time when a video is more of a story. It comes to life when a photo is just rather stationery. While both are beautiful and important I just wanted to let brides out there know that it is possible to still have a budget of 10K and under while having both video and photo. Especially if you want both for your day. And especially if you want video then to please please not eliminate that from your budget completely. It not only can be done but also you will regret it. I know countless brides even in my friend group alone who regret SO much not having any wedding videography and only having photos. Please have ample time to do research have a pros and cons list and DONT FRET NOR GIVE UP. It is possible to have both a great photographer and videographer while all in your budget for your day. 🤍🌸🤍

Hi Jaime. My fiance and I are planning an Hacienda Style destination wedding in Guadalajara, Mexico at a beautiful 500yo hacienda where my fiance is from. Our budget is $25k all inclusive (flights, car rental, catering etc). I was not prepared with the amount of details involved in planning a wedding. We have a wedding coordinator at the venue and we are contracting with our own vendors (those that the venue doesn't assist with). As far as %, this video is pretty accurate except for the music. We are putting. A big emphasis on music and drinks for our wedding because we want people to have a blast. Any advice for negotiating prices with vendors?
