I recently just passed my MSF course with Harley (Palm Bay) in FL. After passing my test, watching this video has given me way more understanding as to everything that goes into riding and more. In the city riding portion, I noticed your hand never grabbed the front back, aside from the fast stop example. Are you primarily stopping with the rear brake all the time? I'm a beginner rider who will be purchasing his first sport bike. I had to learn on a Harley short boy, as the call it, so I know how it's going to feel going from a a Harley to a sport bike. Thank you in advance.

This is a good formula. But do it with the 765 and make it more premium. Adjustable suspension, cruise control, better dash (hopefully with an analog tac). Keep the ergos semi-relaxed like this 660.

I rode all three 660's back to back last month. I like the tiger comfort, the trident engine braking, and the top end of the daytona. I hopped on the tiger 900 next and it solved all the differences I had with the 660s. except for its about $5k more dollars.

After watching allot of KZread reviews of this bike. I finally gave one a test ride the other day. because of the reviews I was expecting a let down. like a Trident that looks like a sport bike. so I was totally surprised by its power and handling. the bike is so much faster then the Trident. and the bike is really stable and planted feeling. I really loved everything about how it felt riding it. but when I stopped at lights I was looking at it and I started tapping on the gas tank and noticed that if felt like plastic. and the area around the dash looks plasticky. and then when I got back to the dealer I was asking the sales person how much the bike is selling. and the guy said it's not selling good. and then he said because it has to much plastic. and then he points out to me that what looks like the frame on the side of the bike is actual a piece of plastic.and I was kind of in shock because I didn't notice that. its actually got a tubular frame under the plastic piece. its the first bike I ever saw in my life with a fake frame. and I have to be honest. even though I loved almost everything about the bike. the plastic side cover that looks like a frame does mess with my head. also the brakes aren't near as good as the Brembo brakes on the 765 Rs. but other than that its a really good bike that I could be totally happy riding.

Nice time to be a rider. Suzuki has the 8R and now Triumph has this. Comfortable bikes with super sport looks and affordable to boot. I dig naked's (I have an FZ1 and really want a 1st gen MT-10) but the fully faired look is my jam. I would like to see bigger displacements in this comfy supersport style though cause once you go liter, it's hard to go back.

Nice vid. It's a good bike, looks pretty nice & has a decent engine for the class. However, I don't like the cockpit (not a deal breaker though) & the suspension & handling are a bit disappointing. I looked in to this & the GSX8R & bought the 8R in the end. The 660 looks better overall, including the bars, but they are less comfortable. I also think the Triumph has a better / more exciting engine, but the 8R's engine is still very good & the low down & midrange torque makes it more useable at legal speeds. It also has a QS as standard. Whereas the best part of the Triumph's engine is when you rev it out & then you're looking at jail time. Also while they aren't bad on the Daytona, the build quality, comfort, suspension & handling are all better on the 8R. Brakes are very good on both bikes. If Triumph upgraded the suspension & dash it would easily be the class leader imo.

A few youtubers that were in the spain event said that the brakes were developed by J.Juan and then branded Triumph. It was said on their videos that they were told this on some sort of press conference before the ride. The time spam between the videos is short, probably they were in the same room when this was said. But I didn't see this in any other video and there's no confirmation anywhere.

Yamaha's CP2 and Suzuki's 8 series motors not so much but have to wonder since I know you had the opportunity to ride the European Honda Hornet while tire testing how you feel that motor would compare to the Daytona's triple?

I was super hyped up about this bike, but the more I think about it the more it feels budget to me. Sure it's premium made and feeling, but no quickshifter as standard? For the price I kinda would like one. Better dash? Same story, it's not bad, but for the price... It's this lack of things that really detracts from this bike for me, it feels like it was made from parts laying around - all the budget probably went for the engine. Will still give it a ride, but for this price, I am probably not gonna get it and go with something else. Hell, the street tripple R, which is a MUCH better bike, is just a couple hundred more. Edit: and yes, white is the best color!

Great review Chase! Reasonably tame corners, I would love to see this bike in the twisties. Based on your comments it might not be as good as the R7 and the R8. The power plant is changed from the other 660s, more RPM and power, triple throttle bodies etc. Finally, don't agree with you on the dash. It is a pile of rubbish, even the tame Ninja has a better dash, the R7 is fine for an LCD and the GSX is the best in class. Triumph needs to up its act. And a free quick shifter too! Watched to the end, always Chase.

Oc so if you could only buy one which would it bw the 8r or the dayton? I know u said u prefer the motor of the daytona in the vid. I rode the 8r on test ride while back and it was onw of best bikes i had ever ridden, so smooth and just really nice. Hard to imagine this being that good.

Love a Triumph, but to use the Daytona moniker and not improve on the previous… I’d consider myself a 675R fanboy, but this is not what I think when I the Daytona. They make such a quality bike, wish they’d have done what they could to keep that name sacred.

They have successfully made "the peoples" daytona. Triumph can NOW make a 765 moto2 edition with terrible ergonomics for the hardcore guys. 😎😎

OC: Triumph really knows how to give us a great triple. That linear power band is my favourite kinda power delivery. You get the punch of a parallel twin with the high rev range of a in-line 4. Giving you smooth power delivery thru the revs. I just wish they brought back the 675R triple instead of using the Trident 660 triple. Honestly though the head unit is a lil dated, like you can see they made lil effort to change the front of the bike compared to the 675R and naturally they gave it a budget feeling dash to get it under 10k. I'd say pass because I owned a Daytona 675R and no matter what Triumph do with this new Daytona aside from putting the 675R triple in it and calling it the R spec Daytona I'll always choose the more aggressive riding position of the 675R and more sporty nature. But given the choice between the Daytona 660 and say a Aprilia RS660, I think I'd go RS660 even if it's msrp is higher. The RS660 is a better bike and Aprilia tend to sell below the msrp from what I've experienced.

Does this model have Triumph's dreaded dealer only service indicator reset? If so, that is a deal breaker.

I sat on one. Then I sat on a street triple. I just couldn't make it make sense. I just don't understand how this segment is better than a naked bike with a windscreen. I feel like the passion and drama of a supersport is totally lost. I feel like the comfort of a naked bike is compromised. I don't think it has anywhere near the versatility of a sport touring bike. I just don't get it.

Any naked bike even with a windscreen offers no wind protection. This Daytona will definitely have that. It will be miles better in colder riding conditions compared to your average naked bike. It makes perfect sense to me. This is a good step up from a beginner bike without having to get the Supersport 600 inline 4s pushing 125 HP and are uncomfortable for riding more than 45 minutes. I would love to have the Supersports but riding them is just crap because of how aggressive they are. This Daytona fixes that problem. Sporty but not too aggressive.

They need to make these bikes that straddle the line between naked and supersport actually fast.

i understand the idea of why companies go this route, but im always disappointed they would just discontinue a supersport model as a whole and rebrand it as this less aggressive road bike. If you buy a supersport style and seating and were expecting it to be comfy all day, you were just uninformed. i think both options should exist. I love my 675R. but i expected it to not be comfy lmao
