2024 Toyota LandCruiser Prado! Sway bar disconnect, but NO V6...or hybrid :-( first look

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here's the 2024 Toyota LandCruiser Prado! It launches with a fresh look, plus centre and rear diff locks, along with a sway bar disconnect. But, there's not V6 diesel...or V6 petrol. It gets the same engine as the HiLux, which is a bit disappointing.

V6 diesel with mild hybrid in this would have been a segment leader. Nobody would look at Defender/Jeep/Everest & others.

I hoped everyone’s wishes of V6 anything came true! But I’ve been saying for months if 24 Tacoma didn’t have a petrol V6 nothing would be bigger in the Prado basically Au has NO Choice and Yota stipulate what we get! Au markets is not big enough for choice 😢 we get what the rest get with the diesel 2.8 being the exception

Unfortunately I don’t think a hybrid diesel is a good idea as diesel engines already have enough problems with their diesel particulate filters especially when used for short trips and not properly loaded for lengthy time periods. A hybrid would prevent these ideal use conditions which is probably why Toyota never puts diesel engines in hybrid vehicles . I would consider a hybrid system like they have on the new Nissan Xtrail even though this type of hybrid cannot be as efficient as the Toyota system I prefer it as it eliminates the need for a gearbox though in the case of a proper off road vehicle like the a Prado you would probably still need a two speed gear box to to serve as a high/low range option.

Its poor marketing and research if they are only going to offer a 4 pot. Look at how popular the V6 prados and FJ cruisers were and still are. The people saying that they failed by not offering diesel in the fj, never drove a petrol one. Instant power on demand no rattling can of bolts and great economy from the dual vvti v6.

Id buy or preorder in a heartbeat if i could get the v6 twin turbo petrol or a v6 hybrid. The lighter vehicle with more power is a winning combination for longevity, economy and cruising. Having an engine basically idling as you cruise at 110kmh means theres less wear and strain on the engine, chucking in a tiny little 4 cylinder turbo diesel under huge boost with life support equipment attached at every corner of it to reduce its emissions and basically force feed its own farts down its throat is stupidity. Yeah Toyota make great kit, but id never go back to a diesel after owning v6 petrol and v8 petrol Toyota engines.

There is a twin turbo petrol V6 version of the Prado 250 series in the form of Lexus GX which is available in certain markets. The V6 is a detuned version of the one on the LC300/LX600. For market segmentation, they kept the higher performing engine on the Lexus version (GX) and put in a turbo 4 banger hybrid on the Toyota version (Land Cruiser Prado).

Very excited to see one in real life, the rectangular headlight version looks great on the outside and l like the dash that has a traditional gauge speedometer, which is easier to glance at to know your speed. Also would love to see HUD. Hope it has the same or better range than the current duel tank version. My theory on why they have mild hybrid diesel is this, since the wheel base is the same as the 300 series, it may have a very similar duel tank setup between the front and back wheels which is smaller than the duel tank capacity of the current Prado, but by having mild hybrid technology this could be to compensate for not having the same capacity tank size by ensuring the same or longer range through better fuel consumption. Also l absolutely hate the plastic shroud that goes from the centre console to floor, that they have placed between the centre console and the middle of the second row seat. This piece of plastic is going to get scuffed and scratched like crazy and is going to look very second hand in a very short period of time. This should have been carpeted Toyota, seriously. Also did they use aluminium panels to reduce weight? Would like see wheels with black and silver machine finished highlights instead of just all blacked or greyed out.

The current prado doesn't have a dual tank set up, it only has one tank as the spare wheel is underneath. I know as I have the current version, bought new last year. This new one also has the spare wheel underneath and from the specs I have been able to find the tank is the same 89 litres as the current prado. At least for the diesel anyway.

@Car-crazy In Australia, the current Prado can have from factory the spare wheel mounted on the tailgate or mounted underneath the vehicle. When mounted on the tailgate the vehicle is fitted with an additional fuel tank. So having dual tanks provides a total of 150 litres.

i don´t think that´ll change, the reason for those awful tiny engines are emission requierements all around the world, especially us idiotic europeans. Alot of Diesel cars or at least Diesel options are being discontinued here for the same reason of "Euro 7" emission standard. And making dedicated better engines for small markets like australia where perhaps there are less awful laws, is certainly not profitable, at least that´s what i think from my limited pov.

@@lordchadwickedwardsiii4093 arguably not, because smaller engines tend to use alot more fuel under high load, as is evident by the new Mazda CX-60, it comes with a mild hybrid, turbo charged 3,3L 6Cylinder Diesel and only consumes around 5,5L/100km in actual real world testing. which is alot less fuel than similarily sized SUVs with 2L engines with otherwise similar properties like an Audi Q5 or VW Tuareg, BMW X3 and so forth. Also, bigger sized engines tend to be stressed less and thus live longer, since they don´t reach their performance and thermal limits as fast and hard as smaller engines. A good example of this is also the current Gen VW T6/6.1 Bus, which can come with a 200+ HP 2L Turbo Diesel for a big, very heavy vehicle with 4WD and everything, the engine is notorious for failing early here in germany because it´s just always operating at it´s limits. The older T4 and T5 Models with 2,5L TDIs didn´t have that problem.
