Sure wish I had known this prior to purchasing a Sawgrass printers 3 years ago. I would not have purchased a printer that is going to cost $300 every time I need ink.

This just happened to me, of all the crafting purchases I have made I can say that my sawgrass 1000 is the worst investment I have made. And not being able to use any ink I want to print on my printer sounds like a class action lawsuit to me this is just unbelievable. Worst company ever!!!!!

I'm at a stand still with lots of items to go out the door, I'm in with your Class action. 3000.00 in sublimation items sitting on my table waiting for expensive sawgrass ink . So much for my profit margin. I'm apologizing to my customers after their FIRMWARE shut me down waiting for their expensive ink. DONT BUY SAWGRASS and if you own DONT UPDATE, use other software to print from. A Big WARNING!

Shoot I found this video after i was forced to do the update. Now I have worthless aftermarket cartridges. Ok who is starting the lawsuit? I’m in with you. I believe the big printer brands were sued and lost a few years back for this practice.

Will others join me in a class action suit against Sawgrass? Or has someone started one? This is the most crooked business.

Thank you for this video, I was about to buy a sawgrass and this video helped me to make the decision to keep looking.

This just burns me. I had orders for custom mugs and I had to outsource and it cost me about 3x more in order to do that. My profit margin took a huge hit because of this nonsense. I just emailed to cancel my account. You can't even cancel online...you have to email. Imagine!!!

@@yandrforlife Same here, I ordered Hippo INK as it is Sawgrass compatible. 2 out of 4 shows my ink levels but my sawgrass still works. After this experience I'm going to order one more set of ink and put it on the market, can't believe I paid almost 1100.00 a year ago, and one firmware update virtually made my Sawgrass a brick because it only wants SAWGRASS INKS.

@northernmetis bless your heart ❤️. I'm putting mine up for sale. What's even more maddening is that it appears that some of the other companies are doing this. I'm totally for a class action on this one. There is absolutely no reason for them to sell their ink with such a steep price point. I can't even justify it if I was making hand over fist. It makes no sense. You couldn't pay me to buy from them again. Not a chance.

Hello Everyone! Like all of you here I just found the video after I got the same problem. And when I have a problem, usually I dream (or more it's a nightmare) all night, in this case with inks, lol. The strange think is, I have two Sawgrass SG-500 with the same third party ink. When I installed the new software and firmware, one recognized the third party inks and the other worked like always. First, I thought that one of them maybe was not updated but I checked and both had the last firmware. I have to say that the printers had two things that was different: the one that still worked after the installation is directly connected to my computer (the other one is on the Wi-Fi) and it was with full ink (the other one had one low ink). So, today I ran some tests with the one that it was not working and still recognizing the third party inks. I connected it directly to my computer, I reset the settings from factory, and still the same problem. Finally, I just change the inks for a new set of the same thirty party ink. And it worked. After that, I placed again the cartridges with half ink and figured out that the problem was only the one with low ink (in my case was the yellow). And it worked! Now I'm using my third party ink, I have the new firmware installed and the new software PrintMate (to be honest you don't needed it, you can use the Print Manager forever. Sawgrass just will not give more support on this application). So, it's possible to use the third party ink even with the update. Maybe you can consider give a try and change the cartridges for new ones (same third party brand or other). Hope it helps, it worked for me :)

I unfortunately updated and now I can't use generic inks. This is wrong! I should be able to use whatever inks I want to use. I'm so angry about this.

I recently bought the Sawgrass SG1000 about 2 weeks ago... I am regretting it now. Now every print has lines in the image. Not only I have lines the images are not as vibrant, I'm using the extended inks. It's frustrating

I was able to print using PrintMate on my SG800 using 3rd Party Inks. I pressed the item and it came out fine. No issues so far.

I agree I am so mad my printer quit working and started printing green and purple .I was also using a third-party Ink it worked perfectly up until they changed. With the price of the printer, it shouldn’t matter what kind of ink you use.

So upsetting. I have 3rd party ink that new and now it’s not working properly.

Well I see that I'm not the only one who this madness has happened to. I'm literally sitting here wondering why I can't print with the ink that I have. Like someone said...class action sounds appropriate. My warranty has been up for a while so why not allow people to use whatever they want. I'm in Canada, it literally would cost me around $500 for all of the ink...which barely lasts a long time. Time to get rid of this nonsense. It's more hell than happiness.

I just read last night that a gal bypassed this by removing the gold bar on the back of a Sawgrass Ink cartridge and taped it to her third party ink. I will always use proprietary ink just as I do with my printers. Others feel differently and I wonder if when there is repeated washing, drying of items, and equipment usage if third party inks don’t have the quality a buyer is expecting?

I have siser ink in my sawgrass 1000 but want to change to the sawgrass UHD ink can I just take out the siser ink and pop in the sawgrass uhd ink??

I am very curious, approximately how many pages can you print with the original ink and how many with the replacement ink...let's say the whole A4 paper

My printer is out of warranty anyway so why does it matter.

I was considering a sawgrass 500, I will certainly NOT be buying one! Will buy an Epson

I love the Epson F570!!

The Sawgrass cost me about 550 a few years ago, I have purchased the complete set of inks 2 times. About 380 each set. Is it time to just buy a new sublimation printer? What would you recommend. Also I am a very part time crafter so the ink replacements were due to lack of use and just the printer being on etc.

If you want a less expensive ink option, the purpose built Epson sublimation printers (F170 and F570) use much less expensive ink that has a longer shelf life. You can find a lot more info here on a comparison between them kzread.info/dash/bejne/aHpspMmOqKi1XaQ.html

I did the update and it's not allowing me to print, screens say nothing, then I saw your video did the print mate manually and now it says verify account email sent and it's been over an hour so no email, so I have no way to verify my email for print mate..I don't know what else to do I do use siser sawgrass and my ink is half full

Wow, this is disgraceful....pure greed...

I’m so frustrated. I understand that I have negated my warranty so allow me to print with non-sawgrass ink. This printer was expensive enough and having to buy their ink makes it worse. This woman must have plenty of money or is being paid by Sawgrass!! Rip off totally!!!

Hmm I'm not sure about that. I would maybe try to use the resync option in Print Mate

If you flip the page you want to print, go to your print menu and open in preview, print directly from preview without using print manager and i avoided the XXX Im SO LIVID they did this!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I would of seen this video before SAWGRASS updated firmware from 3.05 to 3.06. I don't use the SAWGRASS software, and only Adobe Photoshop and my warranty ran out so that isn't a issue. Seems it has to do with a SAWGRASS violation as to warranty and Software note that I don't use. My aftermarket ink, to even make this printer affordable won't read anymore as you referenced in your video. As I have a lot of refillable ink now, anyone try to use the cartridges and drill a hole with a insert plug. Seems to be a difficulty with the Chipset and the New firmware update. It will automatically show up it Print Manager and/or Print Mate when it wants you to update.

Will I ever say your using off brand even if your not?? I've read on Facebook that someone had Sawgrass ink but it was saying it wasn't 😮

I don’t understand why they’re limiting us on what inks we choose to use. I figure once my warranty expired I’d start buying generic ink. If I understand you, they, Sawgrass, are going to ruin the printouts by sabotaging our machines?

I'm fuming. All over their website it says (or at least it used to) that you don't HAVE to use their ink. I call BS. It used to be that you could put the original ink for the firmware update and then switch out the cartridge for whatever you want. I could've sworn I kept those original cartridges for that reason, but now I can't find them. Here I come, Epson...

PS... it's been awhile, and because I'm on a Mac, it's not as simple.... but if you *don't* use Print Manager, you *might* still be able to use non-SG inks. It was a PITA for me to try and skirt PM and print from PS or AI. Bottom line, though, is that it shouldn't have to be a chore. If it's a chore, it's not fun and if it's not fun, why am I doing it?

This was the worst investment ever. I refuse to work with a company like sawgrass. It’s like purchasing a iPhone but iPhone tells you “ you can’t have any other service but i phone… no T-Mobile, no att just iPhone. This sucks and puts a huge dent in small creators and businesses pocket. The county is already in a recession and companies like this aren’t doing anything but hurting their business more. I plan on selling my sawgrass and leaving them a review.

Sawgrass is the worst printer you could buy. The ink is a rip off. Worst custermer service.
