Returning production is overrated. The young studs in the wings are waiting to make their own mark and are very hungry, so a team can absolutely get better even after losing a ton of "production". JJ McCarthy was great so replacing him is obviously the biggest concern. The rest of this team is stacked with young guys as well as veterans. I can't wait to see how this plays out. I think we might see a 2-QB system...maybe even 3 at times, but it won't be because we're losing. Our defense and running game will still have us winning most games. The whole season will be a sort of warmup/QB battle, imo, with the Oregon and OSU games looming. I have no idea who will be QB, but I think they'll be good enough to win ANY game on the schedule. All of the pieces have to come together and I think they will.

@dberrimi9 they better not try a 2 qb system, it never works. I'm on board with orji (assuming he doesn't start) coming in for 4 or 5 plays to run the option or designed runs, but that's the most it should be. Whoever they decide is the starter, they need to stick with. Seeing as how they have Texas week 2, they can't even give it a game a 2 to decide. They need to make the final decision at least a couple weeks before week 1.

Michigan fan here. Excellent video as you were very well prepared with info and names (Davis Warren is the QB's name you weren't sure of). I think there's a very high chance that your prediction will be correct. I was a bit surprised that you didn't notice and remark that the 3 losses would be to the preseason #2, #3, and #4 ranked teams. I believe if that is the case, losing to those teams and if they each have excellent seasons, Michigan would make the 12 team playoff.

Love these videos, makes the work day fly by! I think that Texas game will be the test of is this team taking a step back or not. I don’t think they’ll win, but I think it’ll be close. If they do win that game it could change the season outlook. Hopefully Michigan beats osu again, just to see cryin Ryan get fired during that post game presser 😂. The amount of pressure on osu to win that game is gong to be nuts. Especially since they won that coveted offseason natty

Really good analysis. Nice touch with the Detroit Tigers hat. You don't see many with that logo anymore. The Texas game was originally scheduled for Austin this season then Ann Arbor in 2027. Texas needed to flip the dates to accommodate their entry to the SEC this year. A lucky break for U-M considering all the question marks they start the year with, especially QB.

As Michigan Fan and CFB fan, very interesting take on Michigan. But I do agree with you on the video . I do see Michigan either going 9-3 or 10-2. But if we go 11-1 will be amazing but unlikely because of our toughest game- vs Texas, vs Oregon, @ Ohio State. Washington and USC won’t be easy games but we have easier games Inbetween the hard games. Go blue ! Love you channel Lou and I always like to hear your take on my Wolverines. 2024 should be an interesting season under HC sherrone moore.

A lot of Michigan transfers from last year are still on the roster. Michigan is really good at diagnosing what they need and filling the gaps. When you develop well, you aren't leaning on the portal to survive. Every year since 21, they said Michigan won't win because this guy isn't walking through that door, and they have won their conference every year. That points to confidence in your roster talent. This team is similar to the 21 team, so many unknowns and boom they had only 1 loss in conference that year. Michigan does it differently, and it works. I'm looking forward to seeing how this year goes for them.

This team reminds me more of 2016. Wrecking ball defense. Solid offensive line, great running backs, solid receivers. Quarterback will determine how far this team goes. Wish jj had come back.

9 wins would be a solid season based on the new coaching staff and next wave of players starting. 10 wins would be great for a “down year”. I don’t expect them to win back to back NCs but if they could make the playoffs with the tough schedule they have you can’t ask more than that as a Michigan fan.

Yep - solid picks and reasoning my man. I could see both Texas and Oregon going either way… OSU, odds are probably a long shot, but don’t underestimate our psychological edge. Very few if any on the bucknuts squad know anything but the back of the woodshed when it comes to the game.

I agree with your assessment Lou and I think of the three games in question they have the best chance of beating OSU except its a rivalry but if they win it and beat either Texas which I see as their toughest game or Oregon they punch their ticket to the playoffs regardless of what happens in the conference championship but the defense is really gonna have to hold Texas to 21 and a defensive TD would help a lot and I really think the offense has to put up 28 or like I said D has got get 6 for them

OSU is the easiest out of Texas and Oregon???? I think your forgetting OSU returns the highest rated defense by player(not stats) they were 2. Adding new stud FS from Alabama and 2 of the best CBs in the 24 class, not to mention Edrick Houstan the 3rd best DLine in 24. That OSU team GOING to be hard to score 10 points. The BEST bet Michigan makes the playoffs is Oregon comes down in November and yall get a lucky winter storm, Oregon isn’t used to playing in freezing cold. I know you WANT to beat osu but this is being logical. Your QBs don’t have the WRs let alone Oline to beat osu same for Texas they have a good DLine and former osu qb Ewers he’s experienced, plus Texas comes before it gets too cold. Your 1 hope is nov 2nd it’s freezing windy some rain and your DLine can get to Gabriel and force him to make mistakes, Michigan is going to have A LOT of ugly games but if your defense is better then your opponents you can grind out wins, as for the top 4 teams you guys play Oregon is your best shot, but like I said you need weather.

I'm higher on them than most, and I think the defense overall is better than last year. Offensively, i have faith that moore will put together a very good oline and the running game should be phenomenal again. Think we see a 50/50 split between edwards and mullings by mid-season with edwards mostly being the between the 20s guy and mullings mostly taking over short yardage and goaline. I also think the receiver group is a lot better than they're getting credit for, and one thing is for sure they have a ton of speed. Mix that with the best TE in the country and edwards out of the backfield, and there will be a lot of options for whoever starts at QB. I think both warren and orji are better than mcnamara, and plenty good to run this offense. As long as they can be consistent on short and intermediate routes and extend plays with their legs, 2 things JJ excelled at, they should have a balanced attack. PREDICTION: 10-1 going into the ohio game (ohio will be 9-2 MAYBE 10-1) with the only loss to oregon. They beat ohio for the 4th straight year and get their revenge against oregon in the B10 title game, finishing 12-1 and B10 champs. Also, predicting ohio goes 9-3 and misses the playoffs again, but wouldn't be surprised if they were 10-2 and sneak in.

I don’t know how people think the defense will be better than last year when they were an elite defense with Minter at DC. Between the turnover and new coaching staff I don’t see how people are assuming this.

@Adam-vs2in because most of the turnover was on offense, they're returning most of the key players on defense. The new DC, wink Martindale, is the guy that taught minter and Macdonald (the previous DC) this system when they were all at Baltimore and he was the DC there. They currently have 3 guys on defense projected as 1st round picks including 2 in the top 5. The way they rotated players last year, even the guys that weren't "stsrters" got a ton of playing time, so there's a ton of experience to go with all the talent and coaching. On top of it all, their biggest question mark on defense was secondary depth which they addressed in the portal by picking up 3 CBs and a safety. It's not like they brought in an outside guy. Sherone Moore was a big part of their success as the OC, oline coach, and head coach for 4 games. He's been there since they made the changes and found success and is going to continue what harbaugh started. They're going to keep things the same as much as possible, especially on defense. Skunk Wolves have a linebacker who throws 70 yards, runs a 4.5, squats 540(?), and (ocassionally) throws a ball into the Flat. AO is AmEx' head of AI collections and bigger than a linebacker. Orji is also UM's starting QB. If you think the Wolves' OL is gnarly, you have yet to see AO. Development > High School Recruiting. Good luck. Please keep your delusions. The Wolves have a humongous German OL freshman that will also see time this year.

Usually the same old teams will be there the sports world is just for betting. Michigan would be a good one to bet on with unkowns next year

Michigan fan here. I think the biggest question mark is the offensive line. That going to dictate what the offense is going to look like this season. But what everyone keeps forgetting is Michigan's first string never played the second half of the games for the first 9 games. So a lot of the new starters got a ton of playing time last year. So this team is not starting from zero.

I am almost in the same spot you are. I think they can beat Texas though. I don't think texas will replace either of their Defensive tackles from last year and against a run heavy team like Michigan that's a problem. I think Oregon claps us though. Probably not a huge chance in Columbus without being able to throw.

Michigan plays most likely 3 of the TOP 4 teams in the country, no QB, new Oline, No WR, new starters on defense. I can MAYBE see Oregon being all speed n it I’m not sure, if Oregon is all speed maybe Michigan can push them around, I can’t see Michigan scoring more then 20 on Texas and 10 on OSU. Michigan has a HARD schedule, if yall go 10-2 after losing 2/3rds your starters that’s almost as impressive as winning the natty, so what you lose to OSU most teams probably will. It’s looking like OSU is using Howard to do short passes and designed runs to force the defense out of zones and Henderson and Judkins will carve up almost any defense. It’s weird OSU looks like Michigan did last year besides the elite WRs

Same here, that's a very tough schedule.

Overall a good review. I think Michigan beats Texas and Oregon and Osu are toss ups. Michigan has never been predicated on the QB lighting up the scoreboard. Play great defense and control the line of scrimmage. Add in Orji as a threat to run, and Michigan’s offense may surprise. Not sold on Lanning. Osu needs to win and will pull out all the stops. 10-2 or 11-1 most likely.

Michigan may have new faces but they are still very experienced even with the transfers they bought in. I think they’ll be one of the surprise teams this year. I’d say 11-1. I think they either lose to Texas or Oregon. I think they can go all the way if Orji takes care of the ball.

9-3 first year head coach first year starting QB I call that a great season. But I can see that being the case. 7-5 worst case scenario for Michigan in my opinion.

9-3 at worst. 12-0 at best. Im thinking 10-2, 11-1. Orjii is better than cade, and that team went 12-1 and won the big 10. The defense will be just as good, could be better?? Edwards and mullens are going to be pretty unstoppable. Plus some good depth at HB with cole and hall.. plus others. They have the best tight end in the country. Also will have one of the best Olines in the country, again. WR is a question mark but someone will step up, they always do. People sleeping on michigan, and they will see in the texas game. Win OR lose

Still think at end of season U wouldn't win those 3 games no matter what. Michigan is a good football program though. Just haven't proven yet to reload. But rebuilding up to 3 or 4 years sure. I think a lot of fans especially Michigan will see how great JJ and corum plus that Joe Moore offense line really was pas 3 years no matter how many games those new starters started. 2 to 3 loses maybe 4 if QB not JJ status

USC, Texas, lil o, Ducks, B10 mid half...UT is not relevant to the B10 conference race. This year Skunk Wolves go for 4 straight victories over lil Ohio and 4 straight B10 championships. These "great" P10 remnants don't understand what they are getting. OU will lose several games in the B10 from teams not named Michigan or lil o.

Recruiting is what it is with all the money being tossed around you can no longer base a season off of who paid who.

Last year, Fsu returned the most production in the nation at 87% en route to an undefeated regular season.

10-2 at worst. Oregon lost twice to a team we dragged out nutsack over in the natty. And it's in AA.

@XxBonzeD4Kill4xX I've heard it argued that much like penn state, Oregon sacrifices some size in the trenches for superior speed. It's a pretty simple formula to crack that Michigan is built for. You can't run around them. You can't run past them. So you just run right at and over them.

People are sleeping on Fresno State. They were a 9-4 team last season, won their bowl game and return 14 starters. This opponent has ALL the earmarks of a TRAP game for TCUN. Good "underdog", with a veteran team facing a very young Michigan squad with a MASSIVE, MASSIVE game the following week. If TCUN fails to deliver a quick KO to Fresno State it will turn into an absolute dog fight and I will not be shocked if Michigan gets upset. Texas I know the odds makers are only sporting Texas 3.5 I think Texas absolutely beats the soul out of Michigan. They will be staggaring into week three looking to build some postivies and Arkansas State happily comes in for the the big check and the 50-3 asswhipping. The next hurdle/measuring stick is USC. IF, and this is a big if, IF lincoln Rieley has made a cultural commitment to defense and they field a good (doesn't even have to be a great one) defense TCUN would be looking at a 1-3 start. I do not for a nanosecond buy into the idea that an entirely new OL that has almost no starting experience is just going to not experience all of the normal growing pains an offensive line has and if they cant run the ball with consistency then that defense IS going to get worn down. Worn down in games, worn down cumulatively from multiple games because the offense sputters.

With Oregon having fortified the interior of that D Line with Jamaree Caldwell and Derrick Harmon, with Jordan Burch on the end -- that's going to be a stout group. Jeffrey Bassa at LB. I just don't think Michigan can run it 80% of the time ans outscore this Oregon offense, featuring probably the best WR room in the country and a top-10 RB one-two. They are going to have to throw the ball.

9-3 is very much possible. I personally see 10-2 with losses to Oregon and Ohio State, but 9-3 wouldn’t be considered a bad year given the situation we’re in

No one talks about all the veterans that Michigan lost. I don’t care if they started or not, but losing half of the roster, with 4 years experience, a few with 5, will be a factor in the big games. There are also a lot of new coaches being replaced, especially at HC. Moore is a wildcard as is the QB. Both of those were veteran last year. Defense will be great but not sure what the offense will look like. Two of the three biggest opponents will be at home which helps. I am not sure what to think about Michigan till the Texas game. A lot of questions will be answered then. I tend to agree with the prediction, I think Michigan goes 9-3, probably not making the playoff this year while all three of the teams that beat Michigan will.

Michigan looks like they're losing a lot on paper but they're going to reload. They were rotating players almost everywhere and the coaches that metter are returning/being promoted while the replacements are guys like Wink Martindale, the guy who literally designed the defenses that Macdonald and Minter were running the last 3 years. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised by Michigan this year. Defense will reload, and so the offense doesn’t have to be amazing, as we saw last year.

I think Michigan wins at least one of those 3 games against Texas, Ohio State and Oregon. I think they go 9-3 at worse and 11-1 at best. With how tough of a schedule that is I dont think they will go undefeated. Im predicting 10-2.

I watched the whole thing to find out that you just decided to take whatever everybody else is picking? 9-3. remember last year when everybody picked Penn State or Michigan on the road. I remember the year before that everybody couldn’t beat Ohio State on the road. I remember the year before that when they said they would be seven and five and they wouldn’t have been 10 and went to the CFP. This team is loaded with national championship players. The real prediction is 10-2. They will find a way to win one of those three big games.

Michigans' major talent acquisition handicap is the academic requirements.

If Michigan finished 9-3 and their 3 losses are to top 5 teams then I think they get in. However, I do think they'll beat either Texas or Oregon. They aren't losing to both.

This is very realistic. I give 50/50 to the three losses. If Michigan gets 2 out of 3, it'll be in good position for the playoffs.
