@@shiajinn2509 Mahindra has a certain amount of ownership stake in Ssangyong, but Ssangyong still operates as an independent brand. Mahindra was not involved in the designing or engineering of the Rexton at all. Hence you cannot call it their own product

Fortuner being overpriced is the main reason why Scorpio is selling like 18,000+ a month in India thats really high when everyother car with more than 10,000 sales per month is a small car or sub 4 Meter Compact SUV 😊

There is another reason, Indians purchasing power rising, and now Creta is second largest selling car, and ertiga and breza is in the list. This means India is shifting towards 10 - 20 lakh onward cars in purchasing and Scorpio fits to the spot.

Just bought a Scorpio Z8L and please keep in mind that the Mahindra doesn't comes with the side steps, they are an option and they are about $880 unfitted.

In SA we rather compare the Scorpio-N against the lower spec 2.4 Fortuner or even a 2nd hand 2.8 Fortuner with high mileage. Even more of a tricky comparison. Not sure why but the Scorpio-N doesn't really sell well in SA yet. Waiting for sanity to kick in and for people to start buying with their heads rather than their tradition and ego 😂

Fortuner is priced similarly to the Tank 500 ultra...wow. Rocks in your head to pay that sort of money.

Toyota leather feels cheap because the quality is only 200 rub leather. BMW for example use a 400 rub quality leather. That number means how many rubs it will take to show wear. You probably feel more paint finish then leather. My everest is the same as the fortunes.

New gen Mahindra is really good. It’s real competition for Toyota. I have a Fortuner Legender and a 700. 700 feel way more premium and comfortable car. But yes in India fortuner is a brand by itself

Great comparison guys! About the leather seats, I think the main reason for faux leather is to keep the costs down and make it more affordable. The SUV has a lot of kit at the price point with 4Wd and off road modes and carplay that some cars still don't get standard.

Why would you compare the 2.8 lt Toyota with a 2.2 Mahindra? Level the field and test it against the 2.4 Toyota, or are you worried that Toyota would not be competitive against a more similar competitor?

Yep the Mahindra despite a few issues like a lack of a bit of safety gear, is just better than the Fortuner . Save the $25k , kit out the Scorpio & still have change left

Global NCAP gave it 5 star. ANCAP gave it O just because it doesn't have ADAS. Otherwise in all other important saftey features, it scored 80%. So 0 stars, Thats some crap rating method. With ADAS, it can get 5 stars then.

In Thailand and Philippines and in India the Fortuner sells quite a lot mostly because there isn't quite a competition for this segment of cars which offers the Fortuner like running cost in long run (less resort repair costs) and in the context of the youtuber that there are more better off-roaders in our world actually doesn't mean that there are better off roaders in those developing markets such as Thailand, Philippines & India there are not many better options than the Fortuner in these countries except for India which has the Mahindra Scorpio.

It really absurd that both of these vehicles are in same segment in foreign soil but in india, fortuner is priced double of that of the mahindra scorpio

Here in India, I drove a Mahindra MPV - rear wheel drive for 11 years. Did numerous mumbai - Delhi round trips. Did a 5000 km round trip to the first village on the India - Tibet border driving past mountain passes as high as 15500 feet above sea level. The Mahindra did not give us any trouble even once. Crossed every hurdle amazingly. Was our home for a many days of the trip. Mahindra vehicles are fantastic and reliable family assets. These Japanese charge a massive premium for their reliable engines on vehicles which give much lesser in terms of features and comfort. Close your eyes and go for the Mahindra if you want to get massive value for your dollars.

In India, the problem with the fortuner isnt that it is a bad car mechanically, its the pricing. Toyota prices this car insanely high (60,00,000 INR which is around 110k AUD). Some say that is because of the taxes, some say Toyota are just enjoying having no competition in the segment. Whatever the reason might be, it is heavily overpriced. The actual car is mechanically sorted, the ride is a bit harsh but every part in the car is built to last. Just the pricing that is the fly in the ointment. Personally, i would never buy a fortuner for that kind of money, I'd rather buy the scorpio for half the price and invest the rest.

Ill go with innova cryta in India because it's have reliability of toyota and priced similar to Scorpio and have rwd with ladder chassis

Why there is no TATA SAFARI in Australia??

In india we get 2.0 petrol scorpio n with 200 bhp and 400 nm torque...which gives better perfomance than deisel

So maintainence , parts , enginer oil, fliter , fuel etc after running 100,000 miles. Diesel or Petrol ScorpioN is more value for money.

Considering safety, Is my life worth the 30k difference in price? My bank account certainly thinks so.

I hate ENCAP and ANCAP for this reason, they create unnecessarily strict norms. But what’s more worse is that a lot of people just look at the overall score and immediately judge without digging deep into what made it achieve that score.

Toyota for the Japanese tech engine and for the rest i would choose Mahindra any day !! for the price

....Alturas g4 is the perfect Rival for Fortuner.......! but they discontinued It
