Just took delivery last week from Clearwater Lexus of my GX 550 Overtrail. It is amazing. I was also considering purchasing the Lexus LX but this one became available and I jumped on it. Can't imagine the LX 600 being any better than this at $115k. Did not pay over sticker on the Overtrail. Good company to deal with. Love it.

At $100k, the LX *is* better. It’s the flagship and based off of the King of the lineup, the Land Cruiser 300. The GX 550 is awesome, but after test driving the GX 550, we walked out with a CPO LX 570. That V8 with the old school SUV character and proven reliability just won our hearts. Enjoy the ride! It’s a cool looking SUV.

Better MPG and range with the Land Cruiser. The GX fuel economy will be terrible. It's rated barely better than previous gen, but when you start using the boost it will drop quick. Maaaan… the grenadier has a key… that doesn’t mean anything! The advantage to a keyed ignition used to be that the wires from that key switch went to a solenoid that would then send power to the starter. No permission from a computer to start a car… the grenadier key goes to a computer and gives it a suggestion to turn on the car JUST like the push button in any modern car. The keyswitch in the grenadier is just your money wasted to say you have a key switch. Just like the wasted money on the recaro seats. Grenadier charges a bunch of money for a bunch of gimmicks. “Old school recirculating ball steering”… powered by an electric power steering pump. “Minimal electronics” except the electronic shifter, the auto start stop for the engine, the gauge cluster in a huge screen on the dash, the electronic leveling to the headlights, the electronic locking differentials etc etc. you are paying extra with the grenadier to have your feeling massaged. The grenadier is like going to Vegas and pulling the lever on an electronic slot machine… the lever in no way shape or form is connected to the little wheels spinning around anymore, it’s all just for show.

My GX460 can eek out 22mpg highway on longer drives, but its day to day MPG is pretty low more like 16-17.5. I just kind of wish the 550 could have found an extra MPG or 2 considering its 16 years newer than the 460.

With all the crank bearing and hydrolock issues, I wouldn't touch one with a stick right now. Especially at the price point. Maybe the ones made in Japan are better quality (I assume they still make Lexus in Japan). But I would still wait. That engine is not a particularly thought through design. Well, maybe an "attractive" lease offer, but still.
