2024 Honda Metropolitan NCW50 scooter - Review and ride in scenic Lancaster County Pennsylvania.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

My wife decided she wanted a scooter. She picked out a 2024 Honda Metropolitan. I go over it in this video and take it for a ride.
*disclaimer for those with no understanding of humor: no animals were locked in the storage compartment during the filming of this video, nor were they transported in such fashion. The underseat compartment is not intended for live animals nor should it be used for transport of same.

    This is one of the best scooter videos that I’ve watched. Nice to see you are wearing gloves. I’ve logged 100,000 kilometres 62,000 miles on scooters since 2006. I wore out Suzuki 650 Burgman at 60,000 Kilometres. I have a 250 Piaggio Beverly touring scooter with top and side boxes. It has 30,000 Kilometres of fun long rides. My Yamaha BWs/Zuma has 10,000 k on the odometer. The Yamaha 49cc is my favourite ride. I’m selling the Piaggio. I want a Giorno or Ruckus to compliment my Yamaha BWs. The slower you go the further you get. My scooter experience says a big yes to everything that you’ve stated. Please keep up the great videos. I’m your Far North neighbour in the boreal forest Precambrian Shield of Northern Saskatchewan Canada.

    Loved the video and humor! However, I would caution people about putting a dog in the storage area. It's not meant for pet of any kind. I just purchased a Vespa LVX 150, and I noticed warning stickers in the storage about no pets. I asked the sales guy about the warning stickers, and he said for legal reasons Vespa decided to warn people so that they wouldn't kill their fur-baby and then attempt to sue because they were not warned. It makes sense.

    It’s obvious humor, Lucy was in the storage bin with the cover unlatched for only a few seconds, and never rode in it that way. It was just humor. If people aren’t intelligent enough to realize that locking an animal of any kind in a small space of that kind is detrimental to their well being, that is on them. I knew someone was likely to point out the obvious eventually. And yes, there are notices all over the thing about not using the storage space to tote live creatures. It was simple humor.

I’ve been building and selling 2 and 4 stroke motorized bicycles since 2017. Cheap transportation became a hobby that I absolutely love. Like you said “anything on two wheels is for me” The one I’m buying has one simple issue.. bogging down and won’t reach top speed currently. But it’s all good I’ll fix 😎 and I’ll even slap on some upgrades and keep it reliable. Thanks again for the video, stay cool man. -Chris

    How heavy and tall are you? Because the smaller the bike, the lower the power, the more that matters. I wish they made a Metropolitan with a 125, perhaps the one that is in the SuperCub. That would be an awesome alternative. They could make both. The Metropolitan and Metropolitan S or something. BTW, I wish they still made and sold small capacity motorcycles here in the USA. Other parts of the world get them, but not here. I always was interested in the MZ RT125.

  • @honkerman74

    @honkerman74

    I am not a terribly heavy dude and I’m just about average height. The metro is a bit too small and light for a bigger engine than it has, though they did sell the Elite 110 here for a while. Yamaha had a 125cc Vino for a while, but it was bigger and heavier than the 50cc. The biggest hurdle is the American market, which is too focused on image to realize the value of small bikes and scooters. It’s changing slowly.

    @@honkerman74 I really liked the style and design of the little Metropolitan. But I went with a 150 Vespa instead. One of the big problems in the US is the way our settlement patterns are. We almost always have to travel on higher speed roads and streets to get to anything in this country. Sure there are plenty of people that live in dense urban environments (which is what this bike is really for), but a huge number of Americans live in suburbs. Or the shops and colleges and other places we need to get to are separated by busy, high speed roads. It's not as much of problem is as many places in Europe (or Asia for that matter). Which is too bad, because I have medical problems that would have made a bike 100lbs lighter a godsend. For the record, I am 5'8" tall and about 162lbs. Think I could have gotten 40mph on level ground?

    I think you might have the wrong idea of what I mean by “wobbly.” It’s not an issue of anything loose in the vehicle’s structure, it’s a feature of the small wheels that makes a small scooter less stable than something with bigger wheels. They are by nature more twitchy than larger wheeled scooters and motorcycles. Drums do work well enough on a small, light machine, and those fitted to the metro seem sufficient, but drums are never as effective as discs.

    It varies by jurisdiction. In Pennsylvania, top speed for e-bikes is 20 mph. It seems to me that it is the e-bike rules that are inconsistent with rules for other motorized vehicles. They are essentially an electric moped (mopeds are usually restricted to 25mph) and should be registered in the same way, but political expediency gives them a pass. There’s more to say, but not on a thumb-pad
