I think the red carpet deal is for papparazzi and you have to pose the way they ask you to, for magazines, tabloids (even if you'd rather not) and other things. It seems more like modeling than quick photos and chat with the press.

It's funny because back in the day people said the same thing you're saying now. Back in the days Marylin Monroe was seen as classless and way too exposed, a sex symbol that showed the decline of moral standards. Now people use her as an example of class.
