2024 Ford Ranger V6 Platinum review - a luxury dual cab 4x4 ute?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is the closest any brand has gotten to making a luxury dual-cab 4x4 pick-up truck.
The Ford Ranger Platinum has sumptuous leather trim, bespoke interior finishes, a new colour that looks suave, and some amazing features that make it stand out against the other dual-cab utes in this space.
But it's also nearly $80,000 AUD, so it's hardly going to be for everyone. But with a V6 diesel engine, strong off-road cred and blingy 20-inch wheels, as well as a roller cover that you can open and close electronically (and using the key fob), this is a good thing for the few that can justify it.
Would it suit you? Let me know in the comments! Or would you pick a VW Amarok, Nissan Navara, Toyota HiLux, GWM Ute, Mazda BT-50, Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Triton or Jeep Gladiator?

    Picked mine up last week - safety features are excellent and cabin is very upmarket - ride is noticeably harsher than the Audi A8 I was driving previously but for a ute is pretty good. Love the tray set up with electric hard cover, lighting, adjustable rack etc - great for transporting the mountain bike, surf boards etc

    I love the "alternatives" part. It really helps the viewer go for other options which he/she may not be aware of. I like your channel very much. Top-notch reviews👌 Quick suggestion: you can write your height on the screen when it comes to back seats in order not to mention it over and over again in every review.

    1. Great review as usual. 2. Apart from the wheels what justifies the price difference between this model and the Wildtrack? 3. Why not mention the Amarok and Hilux as alternatives? 4. It's still too expensive and although it's "more refined" than its rivals for day to day use the difference between it and a top spec Navara or DMax isn't equal to the price difference, especially for people who don't need to tow.

    from experience the only two you really need to switch off is active lane tracing / semi auto steering at highway speeds, for the most part AEB low/high speed combined with added stuff like junction and bicycle/motorbike assistance can be lowered to virtually one beep or switched of. the rest work in the background and only every respond if you do something really stupid.

  • @351tgv

    @351tgv

    11 ай бұрын

    depends, turbo diesel or turbo petrol? the major difference is interior ambiance and quality. from a driving perspective (not engine related) the Amarok has belter ride and steering if you prefer a more car/suv like compliance whereas the Ranger is softer and less accurate in steering. Brakes have the same progressive feel as does transmission as they are the same calibration tune.

  • @351tgv

    @351tgv

    Engine related, from a turbo diesel perspective there is zero difference, obviously turbo petrol is way different, having driven the turbo petrol Amarok for an extensive test drive (Sydney to Bathurst and back to Sydney via Bells Line then Great Western Highway, I would say the turbo petrol would be the preferred choice if fuel economy/co2 is not a worry In urban environment the turbo petrol Aamrok will be doing around 13L per 100k and out on highway (depending on cargo load) around the 10L per 100km range. note: spends again oin how hard you push the engine. The turbo petrol has more than enough torque (452NM from 2,000rpm to 4,500rrpm) and top end power (224kW @ 6,200rpm) to match the turbo diesel and only gets turbo lag if the transmission is in a high gear as the transmission takes a second or 2 to downshift, you can avoid that by locking out the top end gear ratios. The only way to find out to take one for a extended test drive.

    @@therightcar - is that a fair comparison though? i can tell you right now that if the Wildtrak has the Goodyear Wranlger ATR tyres (as part of the off-raod pack) fitted it won't be a match in all but one area, ride compliance against the Amarok, the main thing I recall about the Amarok was how good the steering calibration was (for eeewww electric steering), the Ranger is not as sharp, that said everyone's feel is different and I can appreciate if people want a less sharp turn in response. The other major area is cabin ambiance, the ranger is rough and ready vs the Amarok sophistication., that said WTF were VW thinking by having HVAC in the infotainment screen, SMH RME, at least the VW seats are better and the drivers digital display whips the standard Ranger one.

    Should be a spray in bed liner for the money being charged here. So issue I have with the Amarok Aventura. I have had utes with both these plastic liners and spray in bed liners and I will NEVER buy another ute with a plastic liner. So right now it is a Ranger Raptor or Amarok Pan Americana.

    As good as the racking system is, I personally think the roof rails look extremely bulky; Given that it's the luxurious version of the ranger, there would be a lot of people that would not have the use for the rack system. I'd rather see the platinum sold like the wildtrak, with a fixed sale plane. Then the racking system could be optional, if that's what the customer desires..

    I think ford has done a home run honestly. I have owned most models of the GLC class and as they are a lovely car. Expect alot of recalls and fiddly issues with the tech and the motor applications. The only one I’d say is worth it is the 43 or the 63s. Lots of cabin noise unless it’s an AMG spec and you miss out on a lot of features unless you add them with the optional extras/packages. But if it’s your thing, enjoy it! 😊

I own a 4wd and use it for its purpose hence the reason my vehicle suits my use case. A GLC is not equivalent to a Ranger based on its design as such it makes very little sense to compare both vehicles.
