2024 F1 AUSTRALIAN GP Friday analysis by Peter Windsor

Спорт

Ferrari and McLaren-Mercedes look good after Friday practice in Melbourne, with Charles Leclerc heading the soft-tyre runs and Oscar Piastri shining on heavy fuel. Championship leader, Max Verstappen, lost time after damaging the underside of his Red Bull RB20; Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton struggled again with edgy oversteer - and Alex Albon badly damaged his Williams-Mercedes in FP1. With no spare chassis in the garage, Albon will race the car of Logan Sargeant, who, frustratingly, will now be confined to the pit wall for the weekend. In this video, Peter Windsor talks through the key elements of the day and offers some further analysis of the brake problem Charles Leclerc experienced in Bahrain.

As far as scheduling goes, there's zero reason why the season should both start and end in the same region, whatever region that may be. This doesn't shorten transportation in any way, which should be F1s primary scheduling concern if they're trying to be efficient and "green"

Not just because you knew exactly where those tires fell in the range, but more about there simply being more compounds in that range. . Maybe. He was best of non Redbull last season so from bird’s eye view looks like he adapted as much as the w14 allowed. In recent interviews he looks a bit demotivated (maybe, I’m over reading his body language and Lew does have a history of slow starts to a season) but at this point he looks like he’s already got one foot out the door. And the reality is, as much as George is currently extracting more performance from the 15, it’s still no more than one step forward, two steps back: Mercedes have got their heads stuck up their arses atm and they just don’t know how to find their way out.

Regarding Melbourne as the 1st race: I think we lost a lot when pre-season moved from Barcelona to the location of the first race. The race then became an extension of testing because there's not enough time between for the teams to change anything. So there's no intrigue. But there is cost savings, which I understand but don't agree with. Bring back Barcelona!

If there’s a 50% chance that Albon scores points on Sunday, then it’s a about a 5% chance that Sargeant does it (if we’re being generous). Albon scored 27 points to Logan’s 1 last year which was achieved via double DSQ of drivers in the points. Sitting Albon out would be throwing away any potential of scoring🤷‍♂️

Absolutely no one actually thought Sargent would race when they only had one car. . Peter sitting there trying to "act" like he thought it was an option was clearly just putting on a show... and I don't know who for... Maybe it's due to his ties to Williams or Sargent (?)

I don’t agree with Williams choice to let Alex drive Logan’s car Logan should be driving the car not Alex but now Williams have shown there true colours they don’t want Logan in the team it’s definitely unfair on Logan sergeant Logan needs to find another team who wants him and his money this is not a good look for Williams going forward

Albon has the best chance of winning points. Winning points get them money. Money gets them a better car, including Logan.

Has Ferrari mistakenly signed Hamilton for 2025, as Russel has constantly outpaced him for the last ten races?

Disagree. Hamilton should have kept running if only to provide more data instead of leaving it all to George. Bit of a dummy spit really but Hamilton is a protected species with the British media so no objective treatment for him.

cars are TOO big, and way too heavy. Its a lot more entertaining to have smaller lighter LOUDER cars bouncing and sparking down the straights. not this artificial crap.

A loud car is artificial as well...since loudness is loss of energy.

F1 is a joke. They used to have extra teams vying in qualifying just to make the race. Now it is a maximum of 20 teams. And now 19. And they decide not to let Andretti in with a new time. Enough of this closed shop.

Logan doesn't pay for his drive. Another lie from the biggest liar in F1. He lied about USF1 being able to race. There is a reason that FOM fired his ass and won't give him credentials to go to races. That is the reason he never is in the paddock 😂

Of course it is entirely coincidental that three US companies became a sponsor of Williams at the same time Sargeant joined the team. Pure coincidence!
