On the Left - China
China had a strong Men's Foil Team - back in 2016. In fact, China won the Men's Foil Team event at both the Paris 2010 and Catania 2011 World Championships, then won Silver at the 2014 Kazan World Championships. However, since 2016, LEI Sheng, MA Jianfei, and CHEN Haiwei all retired, China has struggled to perform to the same standard until the 2023 Milan World Championships, when China defeated France in the Quarterfinals, and USA in the Semifinals to win Silver after losing to Japan in the final. Since that competition, China defeated Japan at the 2023 Asian Games. While China did not qualify any men's foilists at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games, this time, China qualified the entire men's foil team for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games through the Asian Team Spot.
On the Right - Korea
Korea has had a rough few seasons, the team could not send a full team to the Tokyo Olympics - only LEE Kwanghyun qualified through an individual spot. In terms of Paris 2024 Olympic Qualifications the current trend, HA Taegyu qualified through individual FIE rankings. 2018 Individual World Champs Bronze Medalist HEO Jun retired. IM Cheolwoo and YOUN Jeonghyun have taken the other two spots on the team.
