Milan 2023 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS | Hong Kong v USA | Men's Foil Fencing Team | 香港 v USA 劍擊花劍
Спорт
Bronze Medal bout of the 2023 Milan World Championships Men's Foil Team between Hong Kong 香港 and USA.
On the Left - Hong Kong
Hong Kong has never won a medal at the World Championships in the Men's Foil Team category. A year previously, CHEUNG Ka Long became the first Hong Kong Fencer to win an individual medal (Bronze) at the World Championships
Hong Kong is a team with two great fencers. The reigning Olympic Champion, CHEUNG Ka Long 張家朗 is currently ranked 7th individually. And while CHOI Chun Yi Ryan 蔡俊彥 has dropped out of the top 16, he is still a well respected fencer.
However, team fencing requires at least three fencers, and Hong Kong has always had trouble with the final spot. While traditionally fielding NG Lok Wang Lawrence, and CHOI Nicholas Edward, recently the team selection has become more stable with YEUNG Chi Ka 楊子加 and LEUNG Chin Yu 梁千雨 filling out the spaces.
In recent memory, Hong Kong has won Silver at the 2019 St Petersburg World Cup, and Bronze at the 2020 Cairo World Cup. However, since then, Hong Kong has rarely made the semifinals of any world cup.
To reach this bout, Hong Kong beat Italy in the quarterfinal, then lost to Japan in the semifinal.
On the Right - USA
Team USA is one of the two strongest teams on the circuit (along with Italy). In fact, Team USA has medaled at every World Championships and Olympic Games in the Men's Foil Team category since 2016.
Team USA won the World Championships in 2019; Silver at 2013, 2017, 2018, 2022; and Bronze at 2016, 2020.
During this season, USA won the Tokyo World Cup and the Acapulco World Cup. Alexander MASSIALAS and Gerek MEINHARDT are currently ranked World Number 1 and Number 2 respectively. Nick ITKIN won silver a few days previously in the individual World Championships.

Thank you! And good job to you too
Definitely a dramatic day for HKG.
Meinhart should not have rushed Chueng at exchanges nor counter-attacked him. Starting in Tokyo Chueng begin to leverage his height on defense, mixing hit-get-aways into exchanges. Meinhart was wrong to think he can catch Chueng off guard with fast exchanges because Chueng rarely had to fully commit his attacks due to a height advantage😢. He can easily pull out or even set up his hit-get-aways as he slowly figures out Meinhart’s timings. Meinhart shouldn’t have counterattacked either despite Chueng having some pretty bold footwork while advancing. Chueng only advances boldly because he knows he can finish his attacks. When Chueng first appeared in senior events in like 2017 he used to play quite close and was known for his ability to land hits at a close distance. He landed some of the most insane finishes with the most unremarkable angle. Meinhart should have taken his time.

Thank you
I can't believe they got the new picture out for MCW right after being put in, but they didn't manage to do the same for LEUNG Chin Yu even though they had at least 4 legs time!
Nick so dominant
how come the Usa with 3 top 10 men and got knocked out by China and HK. And give the big credit to the HK, who win the Italy and Usa unbelievably😊😊

CKL is obviously also a top 10 man and Ryan Choi's in the 20s, so he's also pretty high-tier. Leung is also very good for being so young. Meinhardt just did pretty horrible this whole tournament and Choi did extremely well.
50:33 funny af hearing the ref try to get the fencers to do stuff while he’s being ignored.
The fact that Massialas was teaching me in Dinamo
Chamley Watson sold
Actually Ryan Choi is ranked 28 now.

@@kevinTang9000 I would not say that he is my favorite fencer on the world stage, but if he had fenced in a more classical style (remember his favorite jumps and running on the piste), then he would definitely have turned out to be a great athlete

@gavriilvorontsov He believes that fencing is not just being classical, that's why he creates his own style to cheat his competitors.

@gavriilvorontsov Sometimes it works, sometimes isn't. That's fencing.
USA had a rough time here

where are these commentators from? I wish their voices can be turned off completely, totally irrelevant most of the time.
