2024 Acura TLX Type S review // The end of the V6 era?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2024 Acura TLX Type S mid-size luxury, sport sedan. The 2024 Acura TLX Type S is one of those cars that you park and turn to look back and admire. We think it’s a great looking sedan with its long hood, wide stance and sleek lines.
The 2024 Acura TLX Type S has a 3L turbocharged V6 with a 10-speed automatic transmission, 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. Standard AWD and premium fuel is recommended.
There is just one 2024 Acura TLX Type S trim in Canada and the US so it makes things easy, it comes fully loaded. It comes standard with a 12.3” display with True Touchpad Interface and Amazon Alexa, a 12.3” digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, wireless charger, surround view camera, a 17-speaker ELS Studio 3D sound system, heated flat bottom steering wheel, sport seats with perforated leather with Ultrasuede inserts, 16-way power heated and ventilated front seats with lumbar support, driver seat memory and a moonroof.
In the US, a heated steering wheel is not standard but can be added for $510. Surprisingly the TLX does not have heated rear seats, the Acura Integra does have this feature.
The 2024 Acura TLX Type Sis $66,478 CAD/$57,000 USD. At first glance it seems pricey but it is fully loaded and other competitors may have some extra add-ons or packages to get all these features.
Fuel economy, the 2024 Acura TLX Type S gets 12.3L/100 km, 19 MPG city and 9.8L/100 km, 24 MPG highway.

I have owned a 2009 Acura TSX Technology, my wife currently has a 2016 RDX AWD Advance and I have a 2019 TLX V6 Technology…. I love the reliability, styling and quality. Driving the TLX and RDx are a blast, very sporty. I now easily use to the push button transmission selector. I’m just waiting now for the 2025 TLX TypeS to have the updated infotainment, which I would move to in maybe 2026 or 27. Thanks for the awesome content.

BMW’s M lines are quite reliable but you are paying sooooo much more along with maintenance costs. You get so many more amenities with the Acura TLX Type S for cheaper, and it holds value. BMW cars undergo insane price depreciation per year. Mark from Savagegeese said the more he drove the Acura MDX Type S, the more he got buyer’s remorse with his BMW X7. Japanese cars just age like fine wine. Nonetheless, both BMW m340i and Acura TLX Type S are great for daily/sporty driving and comfort.

I wish this had the seat stitching of the MDX Type-S Advance. These seats looks like just from the A-spec trim instead. They should get rid of any gloss black and use that silver trim on the side door instead. A panoroof would be nice too. I agree this over the Integra Type-S any day and it's worth the extra money. As of right now for me I'd rather get the MDX Type-S Advance tho but I know that's a lot more money.

I’m happy to hear that Acura is dropping the TrackPad in the MDX and RDX… will they also be ditching the push button transmission? We have an TL, and love the Acura/Honda products (prior to the TL we had an Accord). When we take our TL to the dealer for service we usually get a RDX as a loaner. The two things that keep us from switching to that car are the TrackPad and the push button transmission. Anymore good news???

It absolutely has its negative for example, should’ve weighed less, def at least 380HP and even all around BREMBO. However, no car is perfect and many cars has its negative. This is an awesome all around car and still competes really well. I’m paying $750/mo and anything better, I’ll be paying close to $1k. Beautiful looking car and it’ll look amazing for a very long time. No regrets.

Sad that Acura discontinued their hybrid program -- I think it was a big mistake. That said, the hybrid system helps with gas mileage, and also makes for a great driving experience -- the gas MDX was not nearly as fun to drive as the hybrid. Different mindset than the one behind the Lexus RX hybrid and other Toyota hybrids, which deliver gas mileage but don't really aim to improve "performance."

I have owned a TLX Type S since 2021. This is review is pretty spot on. The trackpad is AWFUL, the shifter takes up too much space and isn't easy to reach. Just give me some sort of stick for god sakes Acura. The dynamic button is obnoxiously large and also hard to reach....but the car drives great, excellent daily, and the new updates are how the car should have come from day one with the HUD, digital cluster and they fixed the worse 360 camera in the class that is on my 2021 with better cameras that go full screen. It is also hard on gas and needs to either lose 200 lbs or gain 40 hp.

Since Honda has introduced a new generation of V6 in the new Pilot, that's definitely not the end of the "V6 era" as pushed by all those EV propaganda. Pilot's application has been pretty under tuned without VTEC. There are plenty of potential for this new powertrain, in future Passport, TLX and MDX applications. With carmakers losing money on all those EV, which have been forced by the Leftist governments. Honda should have seen the light by producing more hybrids and PHEV, mated to both 4 and V6 engines.

We saw that, I wonder how people in Quebec feel about this and will EV's be as popular without a large provincial rebate? Of course, they will still get the Federal rebate of $5,000 CAD. For those who don't know, as of January 1, 2025, Quebec will reduce the pure EV rebate of $7,000 down to $4,000. PHEV's $5,000 down to $2,000. In 2026, $4,000 down to $2,000 for EVs and $2,000 down to $1000 for PHEVs. In 2027 there will be no provincial rebates at all. In BC, the provincial rebate is now based on income.

See Road & Track's fresh off the press review: The 2024 Acura TLX Type S Fades Away Next to the Integra Type S Forget BMW. There's a roomier, more affordable, and more entertaining choice across the showroom floor. BY WILL SABEL COURTNEY PUBLISHED: JUN 5, 2024 I'll admit it: I feel sorry for the Acura TLX Type S. Recently enough, I could make a case for the flagship sedan of Honda's U.S. luxury family. There's a turbocharged V-6 under the hood spitting out 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. The torque-vectoring "Super Handling All-Wheel-Drive" (SH-AWD) system not only does wonders at giving a front-wheel-drive platform grip, but it's also blessed with one of the best names in the automotive realm. Last fall, a 2024 model-year refresh brought improved looks (no more shiny grille window for the active cruise's radar system), better screens, and a remapped Sport+ drive mode. All of which was appreciated . . . but all of which was too little, too late. Because for all the ire that the TLX Type S has (rightly or wrongly) inspired, those who claim it inferior to machines like the BMW M340i, the existential threat to the TLX Type S sits across the showroom floor: the incredible Acura Integra Type S. Despite packing more power and a higher price, the TLX Type S is both smaller inside and less fun than its Integra sibling. The measuring tape tells the first tale: While the $58,195 TLX (a four-door sedan) is a couple inches larger in every exterior dimension, the $52,995 Integra (a five-door hatchback) has more headroom, more rear legroom, and nearly twice the cargo room-23.4 cubic feet versus 13.5. Yet in spite of its tinier interior, and though it's barely larger outside, the pricier Type S significantly outweighs the cheaper one. Car and Driver put both on the scales, uncovering that the TLX Type S weighs precisely 1000 pounds more than the Integra Type S-4212 pounds versus 3212. The TLX's added power and the grip that comes with SH-AWD mean it manages to outrun the hot Integra, but not by much; the TLX-S is about a half-second quicker in the 0-to-60-mph sprint and the quarter-mile alike, with both cars netting the same trap speed at the end of the run. On the street, the TLX Type S is refined and comfortable, but it doesn't involve the driver the way the Integra Type S does. None of those ponies or pound-feet go to waste thanks to all of that grip, but the car often feels reluctant to use all its power unless spurred. Left in default Normal mode, the 10-speed auto seeks out the high ground like Buford at Gettysburg, and it takes a deep stab of the gas pedal to prod it back to full potential. Extracting the most from the TLX requires making the most of that new Sport+ mode, engaged by twisting the dashboard's central rheostat. What car never seeks high gear too early? The Integra Type S, because it only comes with a delectable six-speed stick. Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive includes an active torque-vectoring rear axle, giving the TLX more bite in curves. Pitch the car into a cloverleaf on-ramp or other tight turn, lean on the throttle, and the car goes just a little harder than expected; the overdriven outer rear wheel pushing to cinch up the line and inspiring confidence in the driver during the process. (continued)

What's sad is that Nissan/Infiniti has a great 3.0L turbo V6 that they use in Q50 and Z, but no one even mentions it in comparison to the Acura, Lexus or Genesis. How did Infiniti fall so far so quickly?

Q50 have bad interior and outdated infotainment. A Q50 built in Japan loses value quicker than any German competitor. Infinity QX60 and 80 without CVT are the only models that may worth a look

Love you guys but the whining about the dashboard and touchpad is really tiresome. The touchpad was easy to master, had it down in less than an hour. My wife in like 20 minutes. Touch screens are useless and dangerous while driving, not to mention ugly fingerprints. We own two Acuras, '22 TLX Advance and recent '24 MDX Advance. LOVE the dash design with the exception of the gloss black which they could lose. The dash when introduced in '19 on the RDX was a groundbreaker, nothing else like it. Everything layed out well and easy to use. Pushbutton trans? Easy to use and large buttons as to help with shifting without having to look. One last note, STOP plugging and talking up EVs, they are dead and are not the future. With that said, still fans of you both!
