2024 06 23 - Our Sun captured in hydrogen alpha (AR3723 M9 flare) - Normal Contrast

Sun Ha timelapse over 3h45mn (12h04 - 15h49 UTC)
Processed in normal contrast. This is the full sensor version which allows to see a larger surface of the sun, including a nice and dynamic filament on the right.
AR3723 is the famous active region that produced a X9 solar flare around mid of may. At that time, it was named AR3660 but as it comes back in view for the 3rd rotation of the sun, its name has changed.
In this video, I was lucky enough to capture a M9 flare with nice eruptions going on for some time.
This is the longest sequence I captured so far with 1000 video sequences of 11s, each sequence converted into a single frame to produce this timelapse over 3h45mn.
This video is part of a series processed in different ways.

Technical note: as a rough estimate, 900 video sequences of 800 frames were taken. The 150 best frames for each sequence were kept (Lucky Imaging) resulting in 135 000 images stacked and processed to create this timelapse.

    and imagine I am only using an average size scope (76mm aperture, 1.5kg). 150mm scope are easy to find and some people image the sun up to 250-300mm aperture. In reality, the sun is so big and so close in comparison to other celestial bodies, that we can really see a lot of details and even nice dynamics ! in deepsky astrophotography, everything is fairly static. The second most dynamical object to observe in the sky is Jupiter IMO. In 10h, the planet does one full rotation so in 15mn observation, you start seeing it :)
