the most fun I'v ever had on a motorcycle while being reasonably comfortable. It's truly a comfortable liter bike. Have riden 500 plus miles with little discomfort and stops for gas and food. purchased two months ago, couldn't be happier, if you're on the fence about buying one, don't be, buy it.

I purchased the 2022 MT 10 in all black last year. The SP is a beauty for sure but, for my needs, the extra $3k wasn't worth it. Whatever trim you purchase, a smile will ensue! No regrets here that's for sure. Safe riding folks.

Hi Chase, I have a MT10 SP and I have found that Thumb Wheel that you dislike, can work better if you push it in an upward motion, seems to work more consistently. Also the worth mentioning is the electronic Öhlins front, rear and Steering Damper are all linked - to control the bike's line. At track days, you can get on the gas hard earlier, pulling a wheelie and if the front wheel is not straight when it lands, the bike just goes straight. 👍 My old bike with manually adjusted Öhlins, used to almost high side me every time.. So for me, the extra money for the SP was so worth it.

If the 2022 SP came in black, I'd have bought one of those rather than the 2022 standard model I did buy. The black levers are an SP extra, and don't forget the polished swingarm. That fuel gauge has caught me out a couple of times already during my breaking in period. To my stock model I added Yamaha's new comfort seat, black akra silencer, Gilles adjustable levers, tail tidy, spindle bobbins, engine sliders, paddock stand bobbins all by Evo-tech, GB racing engine covers, Yamaha oil cooler and rad covers and Yamahas rubber tank pad and side grips set, Oberon bar end mirrors, quadlock mount and a personalised reg plate. It looks like Batman's bike, (in my head anyway). I took delivery last November and was in for first service just before Christmas before putting her to bed for winter. Spring is almost upon us in the UK and I cant wait to do some proper miles on mine. I'm on the lookout for a titanium mid pipe, a carbon fibre hugger and some smaller turn signals and then I think I'm about done. Also the stock tyres are worth a mention I think. Very impressed.

The standard MT10 suspension is adjustable as well. I suggest the Øhlins suspension is more worth than its price on the streets than the tracks. Default settings on the standard MT10 is setup a bit stiff/firm. With the Øhlins you can with a button push, adjust it to more cushy comfort settings.

I'm looking to buy either an MT-10 (non-SP) or the MT-09 SP, and this bike complicates my top choices. i LOVE that Ohlins semi active suspension! Had it on my R1M, and it made that bike Live-able on the streets, while it could be adjusted for aggressive rides. and while the MT-09 3-cyl engine makes a good sound, one of my favorite things about the R1M was that crossplane engine, and the MT-10 has that. COnsidering how much it cost to get and instal Ohlins on a bike, the little etra cost isn't bad at all.

  • @P.M_M

A note on the fuel gauge. I’m not sure about the US model but for the U.K., unless I’m being a hoon, I generally get 90-100miles a tank (excluding the 20 or so miles from the reserve etc but I’ve never tested how long til that empties haha). My Trip2 gets reset every time I fill up so I know where I’m at whenever I get on. Obviously the fuel gauge should be vastly better but it’s only really useful (imo) when you’ve been giving it the beans and fuels getting used more than normal and you need to know how low you are to fill.

Coming back to the gas gauge, agree that it sucks, and I was surprised when I bought my mt10 that it wasnt better. However I've been riding cruiser for 20 years and some of them dont even have gas gauges. You just get used to keeping track of your mileage. I know I can average 140 miles a tank so I reset the mile counter when I top up and use that.

hey Chase, my question that remains unanswered would be, given how similar the MT-10 is to the R1, and how much advise there is to stay clear of an R1 for a daily ride, would the same be said for the MT-10? (For example is the peak power at low-mid rev range or is it high up there too, etc.) I personally dig the displacement and size of the bike, and would love to buy it for the purpose of daily commute. Any MT-10 owners feel free to chime in! Much thanks Chase and friends. Great content as always.

From what I've read the CP4 in the MT-10 takes the R1 engine and detunes it for low-mid range fun, much like the CP3 in my 22' MT-09 SP. The riding position is meant to be much more friendly for daily riding as you're more upright. I hope this helps!

The MT10 is a crazy bike. Since they are very strict in terms of following the speed limit, maybe the XSR900 would be the best Yamaha bike here in my country. There are too many vehicles here in the city and as a rider here in the Philippines, I am not sure where I can use that kind of speed. Would like to know which would be better though. 2022 Yamaha XSR900 or the incoming 2023 Triumph Street Triple RS? Thanks, Sir! Big fan of your vids!

This is a bike you can keep really long term. It’s a Yamaha so very reliable and won’t cost much to maintain and keep working well. It’s also easier finding Yamaha parts and dealers vs the Ducati. Personally the Streetfighter V2 is a gorgeous bike and an absolute joy to ride BUT this MT10 has the better package. The V2 doesn’t come standard with Ohlins suspension so for the money you get a little more with Yamaha but if you’re a fan of Ducati that’s the one to go with imo. Just make sure you don’t keep the Ducati for longer than warranty covers unless you’re loaded and money is not an issue at all. If you’ll want to change in a few years anyway, give the Ducati a test ride. The Yamaha will be easier to live with and will have a better commuting ride but it absolutely will not make you look back at it the way the Ducati will.

@@mattstakeontheancients7594 Yeah drops can happen to anyone of any skill level and sometimes someone else might ding or scratch a fairing or part on the bike which you'd need to replace. The Yamaha will be cheaper to find parts for and you won't need to wait for parts to get to your dealer from Italy. If you're looking for a Ducati to tour with and commute with look at the Supersport 950 S. It's so incredibly underrated, has Ohlins suspension and is GORGEOUS. It's also incredibly comfy and won't get as hot when you're standing at red lights as the V2. Go try all 3!

@@butchcassidy9125 I have the pleasure of living in Nova Scotia, our roads are pretty smooth and well maintained. I have driven the bike on rough roads though and absolutely love the ability to switch the suspension on the fly while you’re riding. A1 is super hard, and probably meant for tracks, but I find myself using that the most, as the bike feels like it’s on rails in the turns in that setting. A2 is a little bit less hard, and A3 is really soft, I use A3 on rough roads, it’s like magic suspension. Plus you get all the Manual settings also, that you can tune yourself through the menu. The 2022 SP handles much better then the 2018 for sure.

OC: I think I'd go for the base MT10 over the SP. But since I own a 2022 MT09 SP, I wouldn't be going for either. That price gap between the MT10 and MT10 SP is like twice as much as the base MT09 and MT09 SP. Honestly I'm more of a fan of the CP3 compared to the CP4.
