This is a serious request to please deal with the RTV sealant issue in the oil pickup tube. There is no reason why this should be an ongoing issue in 2023. The RTV issue seriously brings into question the long-term reliability of the FA24 engine.

Problem is this is random. I personally own 2022 GR86 and did local and high driving not going over 4k rpm for around 6k miles. I dropped the oil pan at dealer for $900 (still not reimbursed) and pick up tube was half covered with serious amount of RTV hanging on oil pan sides. I would go with MX-5 but I have two kids so I had no choice. I would not recommend GR86 just because Toyota does not really care due to the volume of this car sold.

@@pmayo7894 How is it overblown when every brz/gr86 is made in the same exact place & in the same exact way? That hypothetically means that they will all encounter this rtv issue sooner or later…

I considered both of these cars and I'm happy that they are both on the market. I went with the MX-5 Club RF with the Brembo brakes, Recaro seats and BBS wheels (Toyota needs a package like this!). The MX-5 is lighter and I did not need the extra space of the GR86. The RTV issue with the engine was also a concern, I must admit. However, I did like the the port and direct cylinder injection of the GR86 better. I also liked the lower cost of the GR86, even fully optioned. Ultimately, the RTV concern and the Brembo/Recaro/BBS package pushed me over to the Miata. It was a tough decision though. Both are great cars!

*pretty sure* they have a package similar in Japan only though, I believe its called Race package or something (I could be wrong Its been a while since Ive seen the video so it may not be factory) it comes with bucket seats (idk the brand), brembo brakes and a roll cage. However this may not actually be something available in japan and Im remembering wrong, if it is real then we need it here too

that's why there is an aftermarket. You can add all that and would still be cheaper than the package from Mazda. And you can also sell the stock parts which would bring your cost down. But anyways the MX5 is great either way. Cant go wrong with either of these 2

I'll take a Mazda mx5 soft top club with the bbr package... In a world full of tech I love how analog the Miata is and on top of that Mazda did something that no other car brand has been able to do in quite some time which is make their newest generation lighter than before. From the words of the great Colin Chapman "simplify then add lightness"

@@shinn43 if you compare the mx5 to any modern sports car I would say it probably the most analog you can get, no digital gages, buttons and knobs in a very driver focused way. Now if you are going to choose the top trim of the gr86 10th anniversary they fetch upwards of 36 to 38k the same for an RF club with the bbr package. Personally I would choose the smarter buy of getting used mx5 club soft top with that package for about 30k . That's 100lbs less from the RF package which the whole point of driving a Miata is to be as light as possible and for it to be a true roadster

@@williama.ortiz-floresgil168 Don't create cases, MSRP vs MSRP, if you're considering used car prices especially in today's market it'll be a skewed comparison. While true you get an analog cluster what use is button and knobs? Both cars are similar in driving feel, barely analog. Electronic throttle body controller, electronic steering, safety systems, and etc. The only thing remotely analog that's driver centric in both these cars are handbrake and manual shifter.

Production numbers need to be increased as many of these are pre-sold. Port installed options can get out of hand, which increases the price to dealers. Many dealers are still marking up the car and/or forcing service/protection packages. Worse fuel economy compared to the previous generation. Where is the Brembo brakes upgrade option? With all that said, the car itself seems outstanding. I am on 4 waitlists, which the dealer told me to expect wait times of a year since I specifically want the premium trim in MT and red paint.

I was just about to pull the trigger on a MX5 when the GR86/BRZ dropped. The extra room especially for subwoofer sold me on the twins. Absolutely amazing sports car! Enough power to be fun at safe speeds for the street. I get in trouble with too much power but so much more satisfying than NA Miata or even 240SX. She wants to play but communicates what’s going to happen. So you can feel confident to slide without being bitten. On mountain roads she grips & rips and I’ve stayed in front of C7 corvette with late braking & higher corner speeds. Can’t compliment this car enough my 1/2 price Porsche. Thank you Toyota/Subaru! Mazda you did a great job the ND is best looking & performing MX5 yet!

If you're in the market for a communicative sports car, you test drive both and find out which one fits best for you. I have yet to test drive a GR86, but I've driven every generation of Miata, and the current ND2 is by far the best driving experience I've ever had, and the rear seats in the BRZ / GR86 aren't usuable, unless your passengers have no legs. 2023 MX5 : 1,062 kg 2023 MX5 RF : 1,132 kg 2023 BRZ / GR86 : 1,277 kg Personally, I'd go with the Miata soft top, but I'm intreagued about the Toyobaru twins. You can't go wrong with either...unless you're shopping for something automatic, in which case, the Miata RF would be the best choice.

Toyota you need to build your own sports cars and stop giving your heritage away, FRS/86 and Supra should have been built in house. You had 20 years to develop your own engines and platforms. I think you need to build your own facility in Japan like Honda built for thee NSX and their sport car division, and build your own sports cars. Mazda, ford, chevy can build their own cars and make it profitable. Corvette C8 is killing the supra in the sales, and now they have Z06. I think if the right planning is done, you can get a new Supra to compete on the level of the C8 and Z06 and be built in house. There was 4000 comments on Facebook telling you this, and it should have been done the right ways. Start building your own cars and take pride in your own work. GR Corolla and Yaris a great examples of this.

This is not and never will be a proper match, please stop Toyota. As current ND owner and a prior 86 owner they never disappointed but both are fundamentally different.....one is a convertible, the other is not. It's as simple as that. And let's not go into the difference of chassis, stiffening, oem options and engine to top the cake. I love both but it's not a comparison I could ever make. Instead I still tip my hat off to 86 owners in respect.

I'm really disappointed in Toyota for not bringing electric first. High prices with zero returns. For ten years now I have only bought Tesla and Kia. But before me and my family was always Toyota until we realized that Toyota dont care about the customers. Now I think about it Japan altogether lost it's touch with reality
