2023 - TOUR OF IDAHO - DAY 2

The tour of Idaho is a dirt bike event that consists of an unsupported, unassisted, 13 day, 2300 mile ride from Idaho's southern border with Utah to the northern border with Canada. Day two was 233 miles and took 15.5 hours to complete. I started in Pocatello and ended in Arco.

Another great job. I just finished Day 2. I appreciated the additional detail about the Tour rules. So many people just don’t get it and don’t understand why you can’t just get help along the way or have some chase you, then throw in special navigation sections, challenge points, bonus sections. We’re a select breed to enjoy this 😂

I've heard about the Tour of Idaho before, and watched probably one video from someone else, but I had no idea it was a course laid out and an "event" that had to be completed in a given number of grueling long days of riding. Thanks for explaining what it is and sharing your experience.

I remember the steep downhill and being surprised with how steep and sustained it was. Really neat section of trail.

Same here. “Man, I hope I don’t have to ride UP a hill like this.”

I cooked the brakes both years going down that hill. I think team armadillo went up it, one of the years they ran. I have found i prefer going up those stupid crazy steep hills, better than i like going down them.

Definitely one of the most comprehensive videos I’ve seen on the tour of Idaho. You’ve done a great job here. I figured it would be easier to ask a couple of questions per video. So here’s my question for this one… What type of helmet are you using?

Appreciate that, ask whatever questions you have. thank you for your interest. The helmet is a LS2 Blaze ADV helmet. it has the integrated, flip down sun shield . eliminating the need to carry a pair of sunglasses. I found that goggles were too hot most days, or when you were really working on a trail. and in 22 i barely used them. so i went with this helmet with the face shield and wore safety glasses most of the time, i think it was lighter than my mx helmet. This choice worked out perfect for me.

Good to know. I have an Arai tourX4 but like modular helmets better for the cooling aspect as you mentioned.

I remember the sand dunes section from the previous season. What a difference night and day make, is it exactly the same locations?

Yes, same spot, and exact same expected route. Soo much easier in the daylight.

Haha.. yep they don't always dry out overnight after washing them in the hotel.. And then sometimes... I get the opportunity to wash them during the day too. :-)

This was the last year of TOI? Gotta go with the GRIT going forward?

Well, you can always just “do” the tour w/o registering and without the T-shirt at the end.
