Ride a s4 status here and you get used to the weird geo pretty quick, most fun and playful bike I’ve ever ridden and not too bad to climb if u slam the seat forward. Changed the nx for a Gx derailleur and some mt7s instead of the codes and couldn’t be happier with it

How does it climb? Do you feel it's a good climber?

Please do the generations comparison of Santa Cruz Nomad as discussed in "Altitude vs Slash vs Nomad vs Shore vs Spindrift: Round Table Discussion | 2021 Field Test" video. That would be so awesome so assess the generational changes of a legendary bike like that.

Totally understand factoring in the sale prices there are some amazing deals going on I picked up a Canyon spectral 29 cf7 in early June for $2600 USD if you can be patient

I ride the S2 Status 160 and it felt much more natural than PB is experiencing. Still wonky but I adjusted pretty quickly. My $500 extra went to a dropper, shorter cranks and GX derailleur upgrade.

The smaller sizes have more balanced geo because the chain stays are a bit more proportional

because the S2 has 40mm shorter reach and same chainstay as the S4 so it feels balanced...

@@tomasstraka5244 i am aware of why that is. I was just nothing my experience with it and that even in the smaller sizes, you do feel the weirdness.

Concerning the Status 160, might you find that the bike climbs more efficiently if you guys were short like me and had tested a size small frame with 437mm of reach instead of a size large with 487mm of reach? I currently ride a Specialized Fuse and I do a fair amount of technical climbing. That bike has a 74° seat tube angle and it's fine for me so the 76° seat tube on the Status would be a welcome upgrade.

8:47 on the subject of modifying the Status, you can actually swap the chainstay for one from a 2017 Specialized Enduro 29er (part# S171500001). That could give Dario the longer rear end he wants, might drop the BB if you keep the mullet setup though. Or just run full 29, which is what I did, and it made the bike much more capable for me

@scottpetrie1607... where did you buy the 2017 Specialized Enduro 29er chainstay (part# S171500001)? Mind if I ask how much? Direct swap/replacement and works with the seat stays? Looking at the geo chart for the 2017 Enduro, looks like that would add 6mm to the chainstays. Going with a full 29er rear end would stand the bike up, steepening STA/HTA, raising the BB... the 29er rear wheel would make it "feel" like there was more bike behind you.

@@06HokieMTB the MY17 Enduro 29 and 27.5 shared the same seat stays, and AFAIK the only difference between the two was the chainstay length. Also, I figured lengthening the chainstay would drop the BB, thereby accounting for the taller 29” wheel somewhat. Anyway, felt good to me! Sourced through a LBS

Are you running the flip chip in high or low? Mind measuring your static (unsagged) STA and HTA with your phone? This has me intrigued… I could run full 29er for normal days and simply swap the 27.5 rear for when I’m riding the lifts at bike parks

How does the Rocky muntain element compare with these?

Love my status 140 and they totally nailed it saying you need to find trails that meet its geometry. Works well for me and what I like but I could see someone not being into this bike especially with how it climbs hahah

I’ve got the same bike but coming from a 2021 Rocky Mountain slayer the status is a rocket up hill. And for descents the mullet makes it one of the most fun bikes I’ve ever ridden

the base Capra for 1999 may be the actual value winner

You should really look at the cube stereo one77 in the Aluminium variant you can get it whith fox Suspension and 170mm of Travel For 3200€.

There seems to be a pattern of the bike with the least travel and least plush suspension being fastest, based on multiple group tests like this.

Why is noone talking about the Canyon Torque Mullet AL5? Same price with similar specs to the Capra Core 1

I think that having parts which you need/want to change immediately should count massively against it. Even more so if they aren't parts which are likely to be replaced in a shorter space of time as consumables (like tires, grips etc). The waste, of both money and materials, that is caused is utterly needless.

Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.

The static. Hmm. Similar to the FUSE comp. Long. Needs proper trails to utilize the downhill prow ness. My fuse is a big bike. For a medium.

In 2019 $1500 was a budget bike, now $3000 is lol! Also why is the RS Pike such a bad fork?

They are going strictly by MSRP or whatever you can get it for off the manufacturer's website. Definitely hurts the GT since they like to let their dealers play the "I can let you have this for 500$ under MSRP" game.

My YT Capra broke immediately and they suck to deal with at YT Built and assembled in Taiwan not Germany or California Heavy junk
