    The weight is less relevant than where the weight is. For example, the Yamaha T7 weighs less but is harder to pick up because it carries it's weight much higher. Specs don't tell the whole story.

    After having a heavy bike with low weight and after riding this heavier bike also with low weight I prefer a lighter bike no matter where the weight it's positioned

    he weight it's there, no matter low, high, from any perception I could think of. I also tested the Tenere 700 many times and yes, seems heavier due to high weight it's true. I owened a very havy bike - the HONDA NC750X with very low weight positioned, and the V-Strom seemed the same as the NC750X in terms of weight. For a stronger person perhaps weight it's not an issue, but for me it is. The V-Strom it's a brilliant bike, with better features and specs that Transalp, it's a matter of choice, preferences, emotion. For example when I went back to my Transalp I've missed the gear shifting from Suzuki, and the gear-box refinement somehow...Anyway the bike it's just a tool it must deserve it's purpose.

    It's the 800DE all the way for me. Once you add the accessories on the Transalp that the 800DE already has, the weight difference is less. Also, the 800DE has a larger fuel tank. If you add to the Transalp the accessories to match the 800DE Adventure, the price is the same. The Suzuki has a much better suspension, torque curve, and you don't have the fueling issues. An ADV bike should not make its power with high revs, the Honda would be a nightmare on BDR type trips.

    The power curve is something I was trying to explain to my friend who has the new xl750. His bike is really a is an awesome commuter bike that can do gravel roads well. The power curve, air filter location, and weird tech (modes,TC, abs on/off), limited suspension make the XL750 less desirable than the 800DE for me. The major bonus the XL750 has is......the instant aftermarket support for the Honda. Those of us who bought the DE are a bit pissed off that the aftermarket is nearly nonexistent. Oem gaurds are all sold out, SWmotoech is just now getting around to making plates/guards. There is no company that makes a good 2point metal framed handguard. Barkbusters told me a month out in August. It is now almost December and they will not respond to a simple email asking when they'll be out. Zeta makes some, but.like the others....they're mounted inside of the barweights, which looks hideous and is unacceptable. I am just looking for 2point guards that mount on the outside of the oem bars. I am aware I can mount fasstflexx bars and their handguards. I'm not interested in spending 600dollars US on simply trying to protect my clutch and brake lever. Also would like a simple 'decat' mid pipe. There are 4 aftermarket slip on exhaust options I am aware of, 1 aftermarket header. I am not interested in a header. I am not interested in having to re-flash the ECU. I just want to delete the cat with a simple midpipe, and add a slip on. Evidently, that is too much to ask for. The bike has been out for a year, and there are hardly any footpegs, crashbars, luggage racks, plates, hamdguards, headlight protection, brake pads, airfilters ect ect. The XL750 has nearly every option avaliable, and it has been stateside for a month. The DE has been here nearly a year, and hardly nothing avaliable. I would have kept the pos t7 had I known getting aftermarket parts would have been like this.

It was informative if not a little biased, maybe the bike is better suited to a slightly larger person who is more able to cope with the weight... like me, can't wait to get one 😄

    It seems to me, after everything I've seen here on KZread as well as my own experience with this bike now that I've been to the dealer, that if you want more off road go vstrom, more on road go transalp. The fully adjustable suspension of the vstrom puts it far above the transalp. Paired with the standard equipment quick shifter I'd say the extra weight is negligible given how much more you get with vstrom.

  • @marktaylor4277

    @marktaylor4277

    @@marklescault9429 The problem with the TransAlp is that Honda couldn't make it too good - if not people wouldn't buy the Africa Twin. Many are put off by the Vstroms tubed tyres, lack of CC (for touring) and off course the weight. Last week I test rode the Tuareg 660, fell in love with it straight away, has everything I want except the QS which is an extra £150 it is... but does it have Japanese reliability?

    The DL650 VStrom for me remains THE best middleweight adv bike ever made. Ideal torque curve and power to weight for all round touring snd occasional off road work. The tendency in the sales race for adv bikes to get bigger and heavier is nuts. It’s just not needed or desirable in an adv bike. Suzuki have always provided very good suspension and fuelling too and the new 800 is good in this respect . Lets wait and see if it proves as reliable as the outgoing 650. I’d have one over the Honda Transalp every day of the week. Far better vfm, better fuelling and better comfort and better balanced. You seem to spend much of the review trying to justify the Honda over the VStrom because its a Honda. I would normally agree with you but not on this occasion. If Honda had everything the Vstrom has it would be just as heavy and carry it higher up. Vstrom wins every time due to how it carries that mass. Buffeting is a non issue. Fit a flip up screen or taker screen, job done.

  • @IdealBike

    I can understand why the bike's features are very important in Australia, due to the terrain particularly. The v-strom has an amazingly fuel consumption in combination with 21 litres tank, the range it's huge. However it depends on the riding surface and riding style. Most middleweight adventure bikes are somehow around 4 litres at 100 Km, you can vary it with +-10%

    I own the suzuki and i basically agree with everything you say. I dont think my transalp would be much lighter after all the modification i would have made. Anyway the Suzuki made a more off-road oriented "traveler", the honda can be lighter being more road oriented. That sadly makes her more difficult to manoeuvre in slow situation, by hand or with motor. I come from a Honda crf250l, you can imagine how light my other bike feels now 😅. I kept them both, i use the Suzy on highway and to travel but i can also do some light off-road when i work. I feel the vibrations in the handlebars but they are less pronounced after some kilometres. The first service tights the chain SO much and (from what I saw) maybe a little bit too much. I saw you had a riser. I really need to install one. I really love my Banana, she's a joy to use. Great video, very balanced.

    @@IdealBike Initially when you sit on it and do the left to right crotch jiggle or lean it a little it is heftier than the Transalp but not as bad as the T7. Pushing it around is more difficult like the T7. Picking it up is easier then the T7. I have not picked up a Transalp but as many side by side reviewers have shown, picking up the Transalp vs 800DE is very similar. Once your moving the additional weight isn't as noticeable. For my type of Adventure riding the benefits of the 800DE are very noticeable and I would argue the suspension on the 800DE is better than the T7.

    Hi. It turns out that the Suzuki 800DE does not fall almost in its capabilities from the Transalp. What gives the Transalp more points, in my opinion, is its lower weight and the economical, smaller engine that develops more horsepower. The issue of the shock absorbers can be solved by adjustment. The bottom line is that the Transalp gives more. And we all know there is no such thing as a perfect motorcycle. Thanks for another video you worked on for our benefit.
