2023 Shasta Gravel Hugger

The fourth annual Shasta Gravel Hugger was held in the beautiful Shasta Valley. This years spring classic event offered 13 gravel sectors within the shortened 80 mile Full Hug route. All in the long shadow of legendary Mount Shasta, riders test their skills, endurance, and often thier clothing. The clothing was possibly put to the biggest challenge as, you guessed it, we had some snow again this year. Also contested this year, Half Hug coming in at 47 miles and the Handshake with 35miles. Check out the beautiful shots from Sean Bageshaw and his team.

Woo hoo! Great to see the race from a different perspective. You've had some good coverage this year, I've watched videos from three folks so far: Rebecca Fahringer, JOM/Gravel Cyclist, and EJ/NorCal Cycling. Each had a different ride giving a different story and a different view. Thanks for showing it from the non-rider viewpoint. Not sure about that fourth year of snow, but it sure is beautiful. At least when not riding in it.

Thanks!! I'm personally not happy about the snow bit either. It is crazy to have considering the lack of snow that hits the Valley floor in this area. In 2024 we moved the race week back one week because it is obvious that snow falls on the first Saturday on March...LOL.

this race mimics the Paris Roubaix with gravel sectors instead of cobbles. It is about 60/40 gravel to pavement in the 100.
