This is a great telecast! No stupid jokes, no hosts, no commericals, no CUT OFFS. What the EEAAO cast did at the end for James Hong is SO generous, classy, and respectful in a very Chinese way. Michelle Yeoh!!! So thrilled for her finally getting this individual recognition. She so earned it and deserved this!! JLC gives the best acceptance *and* stump speech of the night!

I don't think it was that shocking. I knew it was an outside shot, but I still predicted her to win this award specifically. Bassett is good, but to be honest I'm not a big fan of that performance so I haven't predicted her to win any awards...but she has won some and I'm happy for her. That being said I don't think she's gonna win the oscar. Of the major precursors she won the least significant ones and I don't think those are enough to carry her to a oscar win. With Condon I'm not feeling any hype for that performance. She won the Bafta, but she was always going to win that. I'm not 100% comfortable predicting her for the oscar based on just that Bafta win. With the overwhelming love EEAAO is getting, I think it's absolutely possible now that Curtis might actually go on to win the oscar aswell.

@@nikkiwebsterrulz I was just saying it wasn't that shocking to me, because I've thought that this was the most likely award she would win...just because she is incredibly well-liked among her peers and she has a very long and prestigeous career. The SAG is the most likely to award someone like that...given the performance was also great and Curtis ticked all boxes. Also Curtis and Quan were the only individual acting awards I guessed correctly. I thought Blanchett would sweep everything and although I'm Team Fraser all the way I actually thought the SAG would give the award to Farrell for the exceptional year he had with The Batman, After Yang and Banshees. If I wanted some points I would've been out here saying I predicted everything correctly. Was just stating my opinion and how I felt about her win.

Part of the reason I'm still predicting Michelle Yeoh is because we have seen with guild after guild that this movie has ALL the support. The actors branch (which is far and away the biggest branch of the Academy) absolutely loved this film, as did the PGA and DGA and so many others. I think Michelle Yeoh is peaking at the *perfect* time in the race, and I will be thrilled to see her walk on that stage and accept an Oscar.

Even though I’m personally rooting for Michelle Yeoh to win the Oscar and I really want to see her to win, I’m still predicting Cate Blanchett to win because of her BAFTA win and judging by past history of Best Actress Oscar winners, a BAFTA is enough to win the Oscar in a very competitive race. Marion Cortillard, Meryl Streep, Olivia Colman, and Francis McDormand all won the Oscar after winning the BAFTA. They all also lost at SAG and ironically both Meryl and Francis won their third Oscar under the same circumstances.

The Bafta have never been a clear indicator. The SAG award has become the indicator because 3 days after the winner is announced now the academy voting starts. This year the Oscars lined up exactly with the Sags and I'm not surprised. Cate Blanchett does not need a third Academy award to overlook the first Asian woman to win in like 94 years. Angela Bassett was only a favorite in her own mind She won two awards the Golden globes which is trash now and the critics choice. She didn't win the BAFTA or the Sag. They chose to acknowledge Jamie Lee Curtis's body of work which is what supporting categories tend to do and judging from Angela Bassett's salty reception I think they made the right choice.

Much like Stallone vs Rylance year, King's season paralleled it too. Stallone won GG and CC, King won GG and CC (both snubbed at SAG and BAFTA) Elba and Blunt won SAG (both snubbed at the Oscars) Rylance and Weisz wins BAFTA, and here is where the results differ because King still pulled it off but Stallone didn't. So there is a precedent for both, but this time the SAG winner is nominated for the Oscar so this is such a crazy category and I don't know who to predict

I think that people misinterpret BAFTA’s relevance. The actual trend is that when there’s a split in the precursors, the Oscar nearly always goes to the stronger film. Sometimes that’s the BAFTA winner (McDormand, Hopkins, Colman, Affleck), but sometimes that’s the SAG winner (JLaw, Bullock, Bridges, Penn2). I’d lean towards Butler and Yeoh, one with GG+BAFTA and the other with GG+SAG, but both with the stronger film. Supporting Actress is the real mystery. JLC has the bigger name in the bigger film, which is typically a winning combo, but it’d be such an unconventional win compared to Condon. If there were ever another film to win 3 acting Oscars, though, it makes a lot of sense that it’d be EEAAO; Yeoh, Quan, and JLC all have critically lauded performances (#1, #1, #2 on metacritic’s scoreboard) and all have strong and unique personal narratives that give them high rootability factor. It does feel like there’s a good chance we’ll see Banshees, Fabelmans, and Tar all leave the Oscars empty handed.

At the end of the day (from my point of view) the BAFTAs are more trustworthy than the SAGs. I remember when Chadwick Boseman won SAG (posthemous), but he didn't win the Oscar. It was Anthony Hopkins (who won the BAFTA) the Oscar-winner. The same happened with Glenn Close and Olivia Colman (Close got SAG and Colman got BAFTA) and we all know who won the Oscar. It was Olivia. Another example could be Frances McDormand. She won BAFTA and Viola Davis won SAG. And after all, McDormand got the Oscar. That being said, my prediction here is that (at least in the actor role category) Austin Butler is going to be the Oscar-winner this year. Also, Elvis has many nominations incluiding Best Picture, while The Whale isn't Best Picture nominee. The same could happen with Cate Blanchett.

A couple things…firstly, your guys’s reliance on Baftas is truly baffling. Especially since Bafta was way off on everything when it came to the frontrunners for the Oscars. And call it narrative or whatever, the fact of the matter is is all these actors, who have been in this industry for DECADES, were at the top of their effing game this year! Michelle, Jaime Lee, Ke Huy, Brendan, their performances were absolutely amazing! Secondly, even though Jaime Lee was a surprise win, the fact of the matter is, she absolutely destroyed and owned that role and had it not been for Angela Bassett, Jaime would have been my top pick for every award this year. Thirdly, Brendan was never out of the race. But because of the GG win, which again, we know that circumstance, and the Bafta win everyone automatically counted him out ignoring the countless awards he has won over Butler during this whole season. And lastly, why the surprise EEAAO is sweeping? It truly was the most unique film done last year and done right. It was a breath of fresh air compared to all the other Oscar-baity movies that come out each year. Also, I’m sorry if this comes off very combative, I absolutely love your guys’s channel, I love you guys, I just forget sometimes that my opinions don’t have to be that strong. 🤓
