This year's Oscar proves that narrative matters a lot. That a strange wacky movie with heart and originality can win big. That the Academy has no problem leaving half of its Best Picture nominees empty-handed. That the BAFTA love for All Quiet on the Western Front was not a BAFTA thing; heck it won 4 Oscars! Can't wait for the next season!!

"the Academy has no problem leaving half of its Best Picture nominees empty-handed" - this is far from new. Go back and look at the 70s and 80s, when films like the Turning Point and The Color Purple would get 11 noms and win nothing.

I have been searching for hard support on why this film was deemed the best, support from an external evaluation source to compare all films on the same basis, and I have found none. And no one seems to be able to explain it either. (And its wins in other competitions don’t count. Their evaluation tools should be different.) Any source I use, the film that won best picture should not have won. Can you please explain to me what these notes are that you used to bring out this film has the number one best picture of this last year in comparison to the rest of the contenders? I genuinely am searching for a non-biased evaluation tool to use to compare all the contenders where EEAAO comes out with the highest score as best pic. And another one for each of the other art forms on which it won.

Even if Daniels take director at that point it would have been very close and probably would have gone to All Quiet... Then EEAAO started winning and winning big. Screenplay, Editing, Lead . With Women Talking also winning screenplay All Quiet was out of the race. The problem with these kinds of sweeps is so many deserving films go empty-handed. Elvis, Tar, Banshees, Babylon, and even the Batman all deserve at least one award. I was thinking about LOTR movies, which only had 1 acting nomination, and no wins. If it came out today, would it be nominated for more acting awards and maybe a win? If EEAAO can win 3/4 acting categories (not all performances were deserving & even their best performance didn't win), then no one should disregard epic scifi/fantasy for acting noms again. Or are the acting noms only reserved for indie sci-fi/fantasy or when that singular performance is undeniably best in that year?

This was the most symptomatic season so far in showing and confirming how the academy has changed. It almost feels like a movie too "Hollywoodish" will never again win Best Picture. It's gonna be interesting to see how people will conduct their predictions from now on, because i think now everyone will try to guess from the start what will be that one movie that will have that load of passion, charisma and inclusion. I remember that in the very beggining of this season you were still predicting movies like Babylon and The Fabelmans to win BP, i think this season taught us once and for all how it works now.
