Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Grab A Gear does a real world MPG test in our New 2023 Toyota RAV4 Prime. We traveled from Grand Junction CO to Las Vegas NV. Check out how good or bad the RAV4 prime does on the interstate doing the speed limit, which is 80 mph for most of the trip.

I just completed a 3,200 mile road trip in a 2023 Rav4 Prime SE, from Baltimore, MD to Sacramento, CA. I drove 90% of the route at my normal freeway cruising speed of 55 mph, with the rest at 65 mph. The lowest fuel economy on a single fillup was 41.5 mpg, on a day with a lot of headwind crossing the Texas Panhandle, the highest was 52 mpg on a day with a 10 mph tailwind for a couple of hundred miles, and the overall average was 46 mpg. I didn't want to drive faster than 60 since the car is still new and in it's break-in period. At the end of the 3,200 miles, the oil level in engine is still at the full mark on the dipstick, and the color is only slightly darker than when I started, so the engine's rings and valve guide seals seem to be working as well as you might hope for. I'll do the first oil change when the vehicle has consumed 112 gallons of gas, which will be approximately 5,000 miles on the ICE. And yes, the Rav4 Prime has a 14.4 gallon gas tank. The "E" mark on the gas gauge isn't "empty" - most Rav4 Prime owners report about 1.5~2 gallons of usable gas left as a reserve.

Very interesting! I'm buying a '21 Prime with 22 K miles on it in Texas this Friday, and will immediately drive it back to Idaho, well over 1,000 miles, giving me plenty of time to figure out the display and how to use the controls, I think. Currently a '13 plug in Prius driver.

You made an awesome choice. What I have found is run it in hybrid mode and use the easy mode. When going over mountains gives you the absolute best mpg. And if it’s really nice and flat, use the charge mode. It is really a great car and you made an great choice.

I drove from LA to Reno on 395. I think the highest point is over 8000 feet. Got 40mpg on the way there and 45 mpg on the way back because on the way to Reno road is up and the way back overall the road is down. The speed ranges from 70mph to as low as 25mph passing small cities. Only drove in HV mode. Left with the full tank. 460 miles took 11.5 gallons nonstop. Came back with a little detour 495 miles used up 11 gallons. Great car for long distance trips.

It's only effective when used at speed. A couple other companies had a problem with efficiency and their charge mode software and There are some videos of people just sitting and idling to charge and this is not efficient at all. But toyota did pioneer this system and when used correctly it can be very very useful on long road trips.

@naughtysauce4323 it doesn't matter where you use it silly, the simple fact remains that it is way less efficient to charge a battery for power using a gas engine than it is to simply use the gas engine. If this concept actually was more efficient, you would see all hybrids with a gas engine that only charged the battery.

I've been trying to find one for 2-1/2 years, but my search criteria were very specific: it had to have a plain steel roof, which limited me to an SE, as the XSE has the moonroof as standard. I don't like glass roofs on cars, as they always seem to start leaking rainwater after 4 or 5 years, and the Rav4 with the moonroof has 3" less headroom. I finally got one last week, but it was clear on the other side of the country, and I had to drive it home, 3,200 miles, myself. I had tried several times to "order" a Rav4 Prime SE at my local dealer, but once the chip shortage cut the supply of all of Toyota's Hybrids to a trickle, my original factory order was cancelled, and I was never able to submit another one. I had to start watching the dealer inventory reports. The first 5 cars I spotted were all sold before I could even get a phone call through to the dealership, then there were a couple that were black or grey, colors that I didn't even want to consider, and finally this dark blue one came available and I was able to snag it before anyone else. They are still in incredibly short supply, and finding one without a moonroof is like winning the powerball lottery. But if you can eventually find one, they are really nice, and I got 46 mpg average on my trip home (driving 55 mph).

On the topic of moon roofs, I agree that they're not necessary I'm not really needing one, but I had a 1998 camry with one and it didn't leave the family until 2020 and it still wasn't leaking. That said, we did have to repair the mechanics of it once in 2010 and luckily it wasn't very expensive.

@@happycamper6352- Yes, this road trip was just last week, July 18th to 25th. I wanted to keep the speed down because the vehicle was brand new and still in the break-in period. Once it gets to 5,000 miles and I do the first oil change, I'll feel okay about driving it faster. The main problem for me with the moon roof is that it steals about 2-1/2" of headroom, and when I tried out a 2020 Rav4 Prime SE with a moon roof, my head was actually brushing the roof, with the seat lowered as far as it would go. So the moon roof was just not going to be an option I could live with. In this one I got without the moon roof, I have a full 3" of headroom.
