    In my opinion, the 10k GVWR is too low for the diesel Ram 2500. I went with the Hemi 2500 for the additional payload. I feel the Cummins only makes sense in the 3500 series. If Ram would adjust the max payload on the 2500 diesel trucks, like Ford and GM, I would have considered the diesel when I bought my truck. With that said, my 6.4 Hemi truck is a perfect match for my 10,800 lb travel trailer.

    2500 class gvwr is 10k. Subtract the weight of the truck from 10k that’s your sticker payload, doesn’t mean the truck isn’t capable of carrying more. Cummins is just much heavier than the P stroke and dmax engines so their sticker payload is higher. What I’m trying to say is don’t over think it.

When I am parking at low speed, and when the steering wheel is fully to the left or to the right, or even near that, the steering wheel moves by itself kind of violently and the engine is struggling. It's funny how the the only difference between the 2500 & the 3500 is the leaf springs. Everything else is the same. Both have same rated rear axle rating. I believe what someone here already alluded to. The "magic" GVWR number and ram's marketing decision to keep the 2500s at 10k for registration purposes. Did Chevy change anything mechanically on the 2500 before raising their GVWR to 11300?

  • @T51B1

    @T51B1

    Жыл бұрын

    Payload on the 3/4tons is mostly limited by the 10K GVWR limit put in place by the government, it's because of taxes really. I determine the maxium weights by looking at the GAWR for front and rear; don't go over either of those(easily checked at scales), the max trailer weight rating, or the GCWR and it's fine. For anyone that cries foul of that, I would challenge you to explain how taking 500 pounds off the front of the truck(like with a gas compared to diesel) allows you to run 500 pounds more on the rear. It's the same exact springs and rear end on both trucks. If anything, 500 pounds less on the front would make me worry more about the front becoming too light when fully loaded on the rear.

    You don’t need to go leaf springs. As stated already it’s the 10k gvw. Get airbags, get more stability when towing and don’t sacrifice your ride when not towing. My 13 ram 2500 has leaf springs (I still put air bags in). My payload is around 2500. My 12k 5er has a 2500 tongue weight. I’m over my payload on just that. But the truck hardly squats without the bags.

    Check out the turn radius between versions of RAM HD's. I recently made a discovery that was by an unfortunate disaster this summer when my 2019 Tradesman 2500 Cummins blew up while out on the road with RV in tow. Parts on the ground at 50,000 miles. What do you do when you are on vacation and that happens? You buy a new truck! So, the best deal the nearest dealer had was for a 2022 Bighorn 2500 Cummins with 5000 miles. The dealer got us on the road by 8:30 that night staying late to help move the 5th wheel hitch. All was well until I got to our destination and tried to back the trailer into its spot. 40 years of towing trailers seemed to have disappeared from my driving ablity since I could not put the #@$%@# trailer in its spot! I did eventually, but now I had an audience of doubters at the RV park, LOL Turns out that the new truck has the 4x4 Off-Road package and the turn radius is WAY tighter than an HD without it. Everything I was doing by muscle memory was magnifying my intention. I was a hot ess!!! Now that I know, I love it. Before knowing it, I thought I was losing my mind!

    I had 3900 pounds in my 1500 Silverado WT….😂😂😂 I must admit she handled it like a pro. I’m looking to upgrade though….

    @@itsspacey_ nope. Way less payload, taller gearing and no overload springs. It's the same as a 2500.

    @@kyles234 it still has a higher performance package than the 2500 at least the old ones used to. Dodge isn’t what it used to be so I stopped caring abt doing research on dodge tbh.

    Real talk you’re not going to break your 2500hd by going over the gvrw!!! It’s under 10k so when you haul a 16k trailer you’re still under 26k meaning you don’t need a cdl. 🎉🎉🎉

    No comparison, go with the 3500 for the rear leaf springs. I drove the 2500 before I bought the 3500. Going around corners in the 2500 feels sketchy and unstable in the rear end. It wants to roll and buck side to side because of the multi link where as the leaf springs are very stable. I pull a living quarters horse trailer. My friend bought the 2500 and traded it off at 18,000 miles because of the rear non leaf spring suspension. In my opinion Ram made a big mistake not putting leafs on the 2500. I would of been pissed if I’d spent that much money on a wobbly feeling rear end.
