2023 Husqvarna 550 EPOS

This video was done to show what we managed to achieve with the Husqvarna 550 EPOS robotic mower. Even though Husqvarna recommends 110 degrees of access to the sky for their mower, ie no large trees, no bushes and no sheds to go behind for the best results with their 550 EPOS, our experience has seen a much more flexible machine mowing our lawns.
We deliberately made it as difficult as possible and pushed the boundaries of Husqvarna’s own guidelines, for best results, way beyond even what we thought would be possible. We had it going under very large tress with thick canopies, out to the road verge under large trees and thick bushes and out of sight of the reference station, under bushes and behind a shed with large overhanging trees, also out of sight of the reference station, and it still kept on performing.
Quite often in our situation there was 2 or 3 times as many satellites as the min 4 satellites recommended by Husqvarna for best results. Please bare in mind that even though the results we achieved were outstanding, in our location, the same results may not be achievable in your location. Ask us, or your local Husqvarna dealer, to set up a demonstration on your site with the 550 EPOS robotic mower. This will make sure what you are wanting to achieve, in your location, can be done and you won’t be disappointed.

I cannot say the same thing about the 430x. When overcast it goes into error frequently and not resume until manual intervention.

Thanks for making this video. Im going to be installing a 550H EPOS in my back yard that has tree coverage similar to yours, and I was worried that due to the surrounding trees it may not hold a connection, but after watching this video its made me more than confident it will work now. Thank you for posting this, and maybe I will provide an update after

Hi Jack thanks for your comments. Yes it did work beyond what was stated, by a fair margin, which was very pleasing. If it does ever stop in an area that Husqvarna says it is not guaranteed to work, this was rare in our experience, then the satellites may not be at the right position just at that particular point in time for that exact spot. No biggy just move it to the open and restart. For sure let us know what your experiences are with the new EPOS and how it performs in your situation.

Hi, thanks for the vid. What cutting mode/pattern did you opt for on that type of lawn? Random, straight lines or other?

This video was probably posted before the latest update. It probably didn't have systematic cutting yet

so it just goes randomly like the others did with the boundary wire? Why have the RTK station then? It doesnt stripe?

No it is way more sophisticated than that. Just on the mowing pattern random is one of many. The others are parallel, checkerboard and triangle.

Informative video, at least for me anyway. Was it easy to install the epos station on the roof?

Thanks for the feedback Sean. Installing the reference station on the roof was quite easy as all I needed to do was to clamp it our existing TV aerial and then run the power cable down to an outside power point. Yes there was heaps of cable for that with lots to spare.
