2023 Honda Monkey speed test | Stock speed dial versus GPS

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

2023 Honday Monkey top speed and comparison of the stock speed dial and GPS speed.
You can see there are some hills going up and down and some minor wind; which especially can be seen on the way back.

    Thanks, I think this is the most accurate video of the top speed of the Monkey. You clearly show that you are not tucked, and you go both ways on the same road same time of day, so wind is same. This is really the way to do a proper topspeed video! I have the Honda Dax ST-125 and its not broken in yet, so I can only do top speed for limited distances. However, my speedometer and GPS reading is exactly the same as yours. When the speedometer is indicating 106 my GPS is reading 100 kph. It can easily do between 90 to 100 even with headwind and uphill. If I do top speed for about 2 minutes its about the same as you did here in this video. I have a small windscreen and only use 100 octane fuel (E5). Thanks, my Honda mini bike brother!

    @@CracowGo well for me its really really easy and smooth. The big difference from other bikes is the gear/clutch. The original Dax had 3 gears and a semi automatic clutch. The new one has 4 gears rotary semi automatic clutch. The gears are 1,2,3,4 down shift, and when in 4 th if you stop the bike, you can downshift once more and it will be in neutral. Once more one down and you are in 1 again. You can also shift the other way rotary. There is no clutch lever at the grip. When the engine is in idle rpm it will engage the clutch. And if you press down the gear lever with your toe it will engage the clutch and when you release the gear lever it will disengage the clutch. It sound difficult but for me its the easiest thing in the world, and its made this way to make the shifting easier.

    Michiel, sorry to bother you again, but my egm-fi lamp went on in orange color just exactly as my bike hit 1000 km. According to my manual the first service is after 1000 km. So I thought the lamp turned on because its telling me that service is due now. Did your egm-fi lamp also turn on when your bike was due to service? Has it ever turned on?

    @@TheNetnamChannelIt turned out to be caused by air in the fuel system. I had filled up the tank to the brink and then fasten the gas lit. That caused a vacuum in the tank and made the PGM-FI (the engine symbol) lamp to turn on. But the next day there was no warning light, and now I only fill it up to a certain point, not to the brink.

    @@TheNetnamChannel Hi Michiel, its running fantastic. However I do think your Monkey is a slight bit faster than the Dax. I can achieve 110 on speedometer only on slight downhill and with a bit of tailwind. But without wind on a straight it will only go as fast as 95-96 on speedometer. If I tuck I can almost always make it go ca 100 both on slight uphill and downhill and even with a little headwind. So wind is the main factor for the Dax, it it seems on your video that the Monkey is not so sensitive to the wind as you dont tuck and can still go 100 on a straight..so maybe the Monkey is 3-4 kph faster than the Dax. But hey, we are not riding for the speed, but for the joy, and theres plenty of that on every ride. See you my Honda Mini Bike Brother! 😎

    Hello again Netnam, just a quick question to clarify the details of the fine speed test you have done here in this video: 1) Did you tuck down a little while driving? 2) Did you have some wind draft advantage from cars beside and in front of you? 3) Was the wind tailwind/headwind on the 2 rides, or sidewind? Many questions, but your Monkey just seem to be quite fast, so I want to know al the details of this test 🙂 Cheers, fellow Honda Mini Bike Brother!

    Hello Bennie, Michiel here. I always sit up really straight because I feel like an old man when I hang towards the handle bars. I don't use any drafts from cars because I keep way more distance to make use of this; don't feel really comfortable hugging car backs. Furthermore on the way back I had some serious wind bags also from left and right. On the way towards the roundabout it was a pretty comfortable drive with a small wind in the back; it seems that on the way back the wind came from the front and all directions and was very uncomfortable.

    Hello Michiel,I was wondering if you go down 1 tooth on the front sprocket, it will be able to rev out more easily in every gear and thus be able to maintain a higher topspeed. Of course the speedometer would be slightly more inaccurate, but I would think that the max power of the engine would be easier to have at all times, even uphill in headwind.. just a thought. What do you think? Its a cheap upgrade and easy to install.

    @@TheNetnamChannel I decided to change my front sprocket to a 14 tooth, and I ordered it from webike Japan, because my theory is that in a head wind and going uphill the bike will more easily reach top speed and maintain speed.. I think that riding in conditions where theres no head wind and on a straingt road, or downhill theres no problem with the 15 tooth sprocket, but whenever theres a strong headwind or going uphill the bike needs to be able to pull more revs faster and easier than with the 15 tooth. Did that give a bit of a performance boost after the first oil change? I believe it is because at top speed it is not at the highest top of RPM so the engine still is quite relaxed. I am not sure though how it is with the Dax because I believe it has 4 gears instead of 5 with the Monkey. It is possible they would make more RPM at top speed; but it is possible gearing is setup differently.

  • @bennythomsen5974

    @bennythomsen5974

    11 ай бұрын

    @@TheNetnamChannel yeah Dax only has 4 gears, but I think the 4 gears are ratio out almost like the 5 on the Monkey, so the 4.th on the Dax will not be equal to the 4.th on the Monkey, but more equal to the 5.th on the Monkey. Also I think theres a rev limiter. I think the Dax will go about 85 in 3.th if I let it go ato the max, and then 105-110 in 4.th. So if I go full throttle in 4 for a long distance it will sit mostly at 93 to 99 and only sometimes go beyond 100. I think its pretty safe to go full throttle after break in, but I will ask the dealer just to be sure. However, I reckon that you are able to just go full throttle all the time as the 5.th gear on the Monkey will not go with a lot of rpms anyway.
