Can't believe the incompetence in GM is allowing such an awesome automobile such as the Camaro to be killed off without any kind of hesitation or regards to it's faithful followers! This just saddens me to the core! These government mandates are quite simply BS and they could care less about the environment with as much pollution as they continue to disperse is just mind boggling! Fastest car I've ever tested...that's tough for me. Nissan GTR, Lambo Huracan Performante, Tesla Model S P100D, Ferrari 488 pista, BMW M4 CS, Mercedes GT and a few others. Depends on the day, track conditions, fuel type, temp, humidity.

I’ve driven both the sound and feel in the Camaro wins me over every time.

Should have taken advantage of the 'no lift shif' in the ZL1 and the difference would have been substantial.

It definitely retards timing and cuts fuel, but it is significantly faster than not using it. When driving an automated manual dct or pdk type, they both do this as well. The reason this is beneficial is that it allows one to keep the rpms high and on forced induction vehicles it keeps boost up. There is no comparison.

I have a 23 ZL1 Convertible 6 speed. And man it was the best decision in my life! The sound and speed is remarkable.

ZL1 is one of the baddest cars ever made no doubt. Love it . 6m too heel yeah

ZL1 1LE manual for me. I can't get over the looks of the new M2. It seems like an unfinished design, both in person and from pictures/videos. The last gen M2 is such a beautiful car. Now this one is heavier than an M3😅

In terms of daily drivability and looks, I would still take the new m2 ,it doesn't look unfinished in any way. Looks great in person, especially in black, and way better interior than the zl1 without a doubt

@@chrism869 I prefer the last gen BMW interior. New one has too few buttons and I don’t like going into the screen with many clicks just to change something basic. It still has a better interior than American cars. The M2 makes me want to vomit when I see it in person. It is already on sale with lots of them sitting in the dealer lot. It is your money. Buy anything you like.

Getting a v8 to barely beat straight 6 that was co developed by Toyota is a joke. The b58 is considered to be the modern 2jz. Bmw has shot up right next to toyota in reliability ever since they dropped the b58/s58 in over half their models. There's enough people driving v8 pickup trucks that don't even use em for utility and there's enough v8 muscle cars on the road just to get gapped by 4 bangers. V8 are only good at being obnoxiously loud and being the best in polluting our air quality.

Zl1 is awsome. Steering wheel and visibility can go though. Not much you can do about the latter.

Zl1 would be faster around a track too. Just all around a better car in looks and performance. The BMW has a nicer interior if you're into that sort of thing.

Bmw m2 did an 11.9 quarter mile on carwow and a 12.6 here? It should be faster then the camaro if the driver wasn't ass

There's a 200 HP difference here, so I'm not sure what the point of this video was. The zl1 should have gapped the m2 in every race. I'd still take the m2 though

The Zl1 should go against the M3/M4. Of course the AWD in the M3 will give it an advantage, but putting it in RWD and racing it against the Zl1 would be a good race!

while they may be in the same price range and speed, I don't think too many people are cross shopping these 2 cars. They're def for very different types of people.

I have the Cadillac with the same engine as the Camaro, but auto, because I deal w/ City traffic congestion. Had a BMW M2C & far prefer the sheer power & sound of the V8; have zero desire to go back to BMW. Would consiser a used 650i as a project car, but that’s about it.

it's zee - L1! American Muscle prevails once again. No better Muscle Car out there for the money. So happy I was able to get my '23 2SS 1LE Manual in the middle of June. What a great ride!

Watching this as a zl1 driver is sick but some good shifting would’ve made the bus between the m2 to a train length

The automatic ZL1 is a lot better . I love manual as much as the next person but when it comes to racing, the automatic shifts way faster and smoother .

I´m a german car guy and also own a slightly modded ZL1 with a 6 speed manual transmission! I´ve driven a lot of cars in my life already but nothing catchs me like this car! Of course BMW also knows how to build cars, but the emotion from latest models is not the same like in the past and, if we consider what´s coming, won´t be comparable anymore....

if you can put mph as well it would be nice to see mph differences as well.

There is no rocket science involved in this comparison it’s as basic as the beginning of racing more power wins and in this case much more power! The M2 just looks so much better in my opinion

Should probably at least race an M2 Comp when it comes out. A better match up would be an M4 Comp.

This was good but need driver mods. A ZL1 running 12s in 1/4, yeah I’ve seen this stock car at drag strip constantly running 11.5.

Any reason why no one is using no lift shift in the camaro...

I would think that Sam really wants one, but alas this is their last year. The vehicle is underrated and underappreciated by the market, but I absolutely love mine and all of its rough edges. I'm glad that they were both manuals just to stop with all of the complaints about "oh he doesn't know how to manually drive his automatic!" comments. Funny that they never read the caption during the race that says, "Manual mode" or "auto mode" to see that the drivers weren't supposed to use the paddle shifters. Oh and for those that will complain why testing two vehicles that are dissimilar in HP, if BMW has an M car that has the same MSRP as the ZL1, please go ahead and post. This isn't a comparison of the same HP, it's a comparison of how much car your dollar can buy from each maker. I know that's hard for the fanboys to understand, but that's what's being compared. It's actually kind of boring to compare cars that are similar in HP to weight and TQ to weight. Good job Sam, but sadly your testing of the ZL1s is going to be short lived.

@@georgevigil7001 And this is just its straight line prowess. I took a nice 30 degree curve at 120 (in Mexico) and it literally felt drama free. The car is a dream in the twisties. Oh and the road I was on (in Mexico) was mostly empty except for me and a guy in an Infiniti G37 that was lingering in the left lane below the speed limit and tried to accelerate as I went to pass him.

Sorry but you cannot pretend to be watched some races like that.. +150bhp and huge amount of torque difference between cars at pretty much same weight and same transmission type. The results were as ANYONE could expect.

They jacked up the price by $10000 for 2024 ZL1

The guy driving the M2 wasn't shifting on point and it seemed like he wasn't in sport plus traction off and launch control on. Also think about weight to power ratio it should have been way closer 🤔

If I had the means, I would build an inline w6 (I guess it might not be inline anymore maybe?). I'm not an engineer or a physicist but I'm super curious to know if this would get the balanced benefits of a straight 6 (not sure how much is lost due to the w configuration) with the light weight of a W (reduced weight materials of shorter block/heads, etc) and the ability to place the motor further back towards the driver for better weight distribution (%/%). Any math guys/engineers/physicists in the comments section?

if i am considering a ZL1, My backup thoughts would not be an M2. This comparison makes zero sense. But I watch for the racing. Not the comparison!

This is one of the most uneven matches! I have a 2023 camaro ss N/A 455hp and iv ran the BMW M2 we are dead even or I usually win this is just pointless! 😂

You haven’t raced the new M2, quit your lying, it would smoke a regular SS. The Camaro in the video is a ZL1, with 650hp and the M2 still did a good job of keeping up. Your SS would loose by bud lengths. The last M2 and new M2 are in different levels of performance.

If you go into a BMW dealership and tell them that you'd like a BMW M5 for what you'd pay for a ZL1, please make sure you record it. Tell them it's "a fair comparison".

Watch the warm up... dude in the M2 couldn't use a clutch. The 2nd and 3rd gear was horrible 😂

I will never understand why y’all keep doing rolls at 30 mph. No car is in its boost zones at freaking 30mph. Everytime you race a turbo vs a NA you are doing the turbo dirty and injustice. It should be a 40-45 roll

As an M2 owner myself, the ZL1 will always be a better motorsports car. ZL1s are a true demon meant to be track weopons, while M2s are more of like an ultimate daily that gives you proficiency in all aspects such as handling, comfort, speed, sound, and overall engagement. The ZL1 is a dedicated car only for motorsports and makes an atrocious daily vehicle. I know this because it's the car I wanted over the M2, but I couldn't stand the visibility and cabin for a daily, as well as how bad the mpgs are as well. If you want a stupid fast car get the ZL1. If you want a car that has positives on everything, and something you can daily, get the M2.

That camaro is stunning though!!! ❤

Why not take on an M5 CS that would be a better race and you always drive the car that has a better chance of winning.

m2 needs a new driver asap

My question is which car is going to breakdown first! They both are racing to see which has to go to the service department first. I owned a GT500 a few years back and that POS would break and rattle like no other. It chased me into the hands of Lexus which I now can make it through the 1/4 mile for thousands of times before any issues.

The TR6060 is a known beast and the LT4 is a built monster pushrod engine. The DOD lifters are in it but they are electronically disabled so overall the Z's drivetrain is pretty killer. I can't speak for the M2. Bottom line.. I think just do your maintenance and in general you're ok.

I love my Camaro. Mine is white on adrenaline red inside. 😎🙂

Damn this video really got me excited for my new M2. Can’t believe its anywhere near that ZL1 with the massive HP difference. I expected this to be much worse

Just FYI - The ZL1 goes to 62mph in 1st gear with the TR6060.

The auto M2 runs a 11.7 1/4

It's a goofy look for sure, but that's how you turn rev matching on and off. I'm guessing it was GM's attempt at saving a nickel.

The BMW is down 200hp Yesterday stangmode was super pumped that his mustang gt barely beat a stock m240i with 100hp 50tq less. Even with a loss it's still a good race for the BMW

Would rather see a M4 instead.. we would hear plenty of crying from one side though.
