    RTX 4050, 4060 and 4070 mobile GPUs seem to have a 1v limit which gets hit in many games before the power limit, around 90-100w seems common. If you use something like furmark then you can probably hit 140W, but you won't see it in many other stress tests or games. Seems to be how it is with these Nvidia options this gen.

    Thanks for taking the time to respond. Really appreciate the insight. If these GPUs can hit 140W in a specific benchmark, I'd think it's either firmware or a software limit. But perhaps that's brought about by physical silicon limits for safe operating voltage and current. In either case 90-100W seems to be the story for the RTX 4050, 4060 and 4070. This should make for some very interesting and powerful thin-and-lights this year. Exciting times to look forward to there. P.S. Love your channel, been watching your reviews for years. I have got the rog strix with g16 13650hx and 4060. I made undervolt (bios -80) to CPU and now, the GPU TDP si 5-10W more. Curiosly, the CPU get better results. For example, re4 remake went of 95-105w to 100-120w (135w in game menu). I am te top1 in Time Spy with this changes and a bit of GPU overclock. Greentings to booth, your channels are very good.

    The Acer Predator Helios 16 models don’t limit or restrict the wattage as We’ve got the Rtx 4070 version, and I’ve throughly tested with game’s, and benchmarks and it definitely utilizes upwards of the full 140 watts albeit about 139 watts is the max I’ve seen while gaming. Everybody saying there’s a hard 100 watt limit is wrong and instead it’s certain manufacturers artificially limiting the Rtx 4060 / 4070 cards to 100 watts meanwhile like I said the Acer Predator Helios allows for the full maximum 140 watts ! Our Rtx 4070 doesn’t ever hit the voltage limit or any other limits even when pulling 135 to 139 watts and it doesn’t matter whether it’s intensive games or intensive benchmarks. I can get around 13,750 graphics score on Our Rtx 4070 with a +240 core & +700 memory in 3d time spy and even with that high Overclock it’s still not hitting any limits. Nvidia isn’t limiting the wattage on the Rtx 4,000 laptop Gpu’s, and instead it’s some manufacturers who are hard limiting the cards for their specific laptops but thankfully Acer doesn’t doesn’t do that for the Premium Acer Predator Helios 16 !

    That's very well tuned. I'm glad you're getting all of this running and only at 70C under load. The RTX 4070 can hit 140W in benchmarks. I've shown that in other videos. This is how they decided to call it a 140W TGP. But in gaming it site more around 100-105W with some games betting around 110-115W for brief periods. Sounds like you really won the silicon lottery. My Predator Helios 16 was just a hot mess.

    This seems to be an issue with 4050, 4060 and 4070 laptop GPUs this year. They look like they have been designed for thin and lights. I’m seeing many reviews appearing featuring these GPUs in 100W configurations. So that was probably their target. What I do not understand now is why some manufacturers, like ASUS and Razer are advertising these as max TGP 140W when they will *never* hit that.

  • @techknowlux

    It’s a great way to segment the market and a good strategy on NVIDIA’s part. Now people who assumed 4070 would be a great buy will be sorely disappointed. The gap between it and the 4080 laptop GPU is pretty big. This way NVIDIA can push buyers and upgraders to go up the segment thus more expensive and “premium” laptops and more margins and profits all around for everyone in the supply chain.

But I saw similar "blips" in Assassin's Creed Mirage hitting similar figures in gaming. I have not seen during gaming the full power on the RTX 4070. The story is pretty much the same. The voltage limits are very much in place. And some games have some stutter. If you are buying for gaming first and want smooth gameplay, your minimum choice this year is an RTX 4080 imho. Yes you can. Just play with the settings a little bit and especially any game that has DLSS3 and Frame Generation support, you should be get very close to 60fps if not above it. For those games that can't hit the mark, lock the frame rate to 60fps and use Adaptive Quality settings. Without knowing what type of games you play it's much harder to provide a more specific answer. Hope this gives you some ideas though.

But then again seems this generation mabe the goal is to get the 4050, 4060 and 4070 into more premium and thin-and-light laptops. So it isn’t all bad if pricing isn’t insane. Tested this scenario as well. It does not make any difference. As others and @JarrodsTech have pointed out, there is a 1V limit which tops out the power on the RTX 4050, 4060 and 4070 at 90-100W. This is just the reality with these GPUs for 2023 and the RTX 4000 generation. RTX 4080 and 4090 however are a completely different class of GPUs for this year and hit the full 175W in the big and powerful gaming laptops. Choose wisely.

    That's interesting. I don't think I've heard this. Which laptop? Keep in mind that each manufacturer is able to do whatever kind of setups they want to do and thus the cooling solution, the fans, the chassis and the heat sinks, heat pipes all affect the overall performance. I don't believe there was any issues with voltage limits or hardware imposed limits like there are with the 4000 series so theoretically you *should* be able to hit 175W max.

    Fair point. Of course it will run faster and higher fps at 1080p. But if I’m buying this machine with a QHD screen I want to play at that resolution. In 2023, QHD resolution should be the target for all gaming laptops. It is an excellent in-between resolution for sharp and beautiful graphics without burning battery life or wasting on extra pixels with 4K (that you probably will not notice on an 18” screen even).

    Hi, I'll talk about this issue from both my own experiences and NVIDIA's utterances. First of all, I purchased ASUS in this spects 3 weeks ago. From that time on, I was suprised with TGP issue as you did. However, when I play games requiring high GPU voltage, what I realize is the fact that my asus actualy handle the performance issue in low watts like 90-100W pretty good. Even in silent mode, I never went through any fps issue in for instance MW2, Metro, BF 2042, WOT and others. Despite of non-dlss3 games exists among these games, I can see high fps values. According to me, yes, NVIDIA shared total tgp (140+35w) with its potential clients. However, GPU's actually minimizes energy consumption by using its AI, but never put an obstacle on gaming performance/fps, which I really like it. But, when it comes to the time of super workload on GPU, ASUS and NVIDIA should keep its promises on the matter of 175 tgp as they advertised. Otherwise, I can easily sue for misleading and get whatever I want for sure. The reason why we experience this is totally concerning AI of GPU and relevant software. As for NVIDIA's words, NVIDIA says "no matter how much voltage you want to feed your GPU, the fps values will not change or will change so little. Besides, in hard performances in the future, the laptop can ensure to keep its promises and give its owners advertised values." Actually, this doesn't make sense to me since we observed the contrary in the previous laptops. But, maybe they might be right since this is a softwarely enhanced new RTX's. These words of mine are of course totally theory, but I think so. Some of the videos relating to ASUS G16, some guys actually reached 115 TGP. Maybe it's about some changes on settings, but I don't know.

    Even if it's AI, they need to be more upfront about the advertising. This is also unclear because people aren't used to the Max TGP figures. It's like going to the store, and finding the up to 70% off sticker. Technically legal but very annoying and a gimmick.

    Idk why nvidia is deliberately kicking the 40 series GPUs with lower power limit. Let it hit at least 120W. Even a 3060 can do it. I guess all they are trying to push is the magic feeling of having a lot of FPS with frame generation but HOW MANY GAMES HAVE FRAME GEN.. It would be better to just buy 3070ti laptop and wait for AMD FSR 3.0 for games. Much better price to performance ratio.

  • @techknowlux

    @techknowlux

    4 ай бұрын

    @Akash-jo6oo They're doing this obviously to price the 4080 and 4090 laptops way higher and get higher margins for the OEMs and of course for NVIDIA themselves. But, FSR3 from what I've tested isn't all that great. It's good but can't touch DLSS3.5 or even DLSS3. There's still some pixel walking, artifacting and texture popin/out issues with FSR3. Frame Generation isn't suppored in that many games but most of the popular ones have DLSS3 support. Also considering these features are not coming to RTX 3000 series, it doesn't make sense to buy considering resale will not be there.

    Asus and Armory crate both sucks. It also behaves like a malware. I have a rog flow x13 with an rtx 3050 and ryzen 6800hs. The silent mode isn't silent at all. It just slows down the computer by about 10% and that's it. It doesn't even reduce the power consumption by a meaningful margin. The problem with this laptop is the fan noise. It's stupidly high pitch noise so In order to get rid of it, I wanted to set a max processor usage limit from the power management menu in windows however because of Armory crate, it literally disables that feature, there's no max processor state setting in the power management menu in windows 10 at least. Even after removing the bloatware, the setting still doesn't come back. So I had to reinstall the windows from scratch in order to get that setting back in the menu. It may sound silly but setting a processor state limit will cut the processor performance by half but cut the power usage by a lot therefore limiting the cpu to never reach high temperatures to make the fan go crazy thus rendering the machine actually silent. And doing this while browsing web or doing light tasks won't affect the general feeling of the machine while dramatically increasing the battery life. You can always turn it back on when you need the full power.

  • @techknowlux

    @techknowlux

    Жыл бұрын

    The reality is that most of these software are designed for 90% of the audience that just wants to click a button and have the laptop somewhat optimize for a current usage scenario whether its gaming or Netflix or just browsing. If you want to put in the time, and are willing to, there's ways to better optimize battery life that'll certainly take you beyond anything you'll get with the out of the box control center softwares. That's a small minority willing to invest that much time though. But you're right, and that's why I keep saying I'm not a fan. Build in these things into the BIOS and give us hotkeys. I'm pretty sure as we move forward towards the age of ASIC (that's dedicated hardware for a specific function) that maybe we'll even see this all automated and behind the scenes so the consumers can just pick up a laptop and use it. Thanks for the great info though. I've also played around with power states and etc. and have exprimented with the settings you suggested. It goes back to my other statement that even for me, most of the CPUs of today are far overkill.
