2023 Animaris Rex
Ойын-сауық
Since the beginning of this summer I have been trying to connect several running units (Ordissen) in succession. Animaris Rex is a herd of beach animals whose specimens hold each other as defense against storms. As individuals they would simply blow over, but as a group the chance of surviving a storm would be greater. It is 18 meters long (5 meters longer than the largest Tyrannosaurus Rex found.)

@@jonvon2044 You don't get constant wind on the coast necessarily either but I take your point, you do probably get more windy days overall than inland

it's a strand (beach) beest
Theo, I'm 70 years old and I've been following you for _years._ I love your work. I believe your profile is higher now than ever, as it should be!] You might say life has battered me these last years, every loss unforeseen and devastating. A medical professional suggested the result has been PTSD. I live in a nursing home now. Remarkably, I still find happiness in my life. The _strandbeest_ not only brings me great joy, they make the world absolutely *_magical._* I cannot thank you enough.

You are lucky to have witnessed its evolution. I just discovered these gorgeous beasts. Unlike the robots, these structures look like they have souls. I see I am not the only who feels hopeful seeing the Strandbeest. I pray life treats you well and that you will always have a reason to smile.

I love this comment, hope you're doing well. Magical is the perfect descriptor for these
You deserve so so much more recognition for your phenomenal work. I find you so inspirational Theo! You'll be having essays written about you soon enough, maybe a whole museum someday
I've seen a lot of your work, and I love all of it. This is on another level! Wonderful!
Perfection in design! The sail area is reasonably small for all that movement, so many joints sapping power... But so much speed and fluidity ❤️👌
MESMERISING!!! And INGENIOUS!! God Bless xx👍🙏💕
This beest has impressive stability and complexity. The previous single, lateral-oriented beests tend to tip over in the forward direction, but this one appears much more stable. Incredible creativity and mechanics. The challenge of designing any complex system, mechanical or hydraulic or electronic, is to make it stable and functional. Hats off to Theo for having the imagination to bring these PVC wind-walker beests to life.

Amazing amount of work went into that!!
I fell in love with these 10 years ago and am so happy to see you still making them!
This is outstanding! Thanks for sharing your amazing work with us!
Incredible
This is really a dragon in the wind!!!
Geweldig Theo. Bedankt. Groeten vanuit de Achterhoek.
These are always so mesmerizing. I really hope to see one in person some day.
Watching motion of these constructs makes me wonder how a bicycle without wheels would climb any stairs. Your work is inspiring me. I saw a brief video about you descibing the principle behind water detector for your sculptures and how it alters their march course to avoid the sea. I am amazed by your technical insight and knowledge.
Love the work. Really had the urge to see the tracks left behind - the tracks of an animal are so representative of its form and function. Perhaps even from a top-down view.

You are a true artist and your work leaves me speechless.
Sublime.
Never knew about this youtube channel or strandbeesten.. but 5+ years ago I actually came across a strandbeest in real life on The Hague's Zuiderstrand.. It was completely amazing I couldnt believe what I saw! And now this Animaris Rex on a random Sunday evening.. This is incredibly cool thank you for your work and sharing ❤
cool!
Just incredible work as always Theo
It's amazing! This video made me so happy, while I was feeling down🙏
I love it, they certainly seemed more stable in the wind linked together like that. My only thought was I wonder if the tail unit would have an easier time if the connecting lines linking it to the rest of the group were attached higher up to help lift up the front couple rows of 'feet.' That said, having it drag a little may help slow the whole pack down so maybe that bit of drag is meant to be there. Thank you for sharing with us!
I remember first seeing them on some TV program about unique inventions around 8-9 years old and being completely fascinated by them
First time seeing this, WOW! Incredible work
That beast is gorgeous! I've never seen a more lifelike structure. Unlike the robots, these look like they have souls. They are more romantic.
Фантастика.
Many thanks Theo! You bring so much joy to the world. 🌍🌎🌏♥️🇨🇦🌞
J'adore ! ❤
just imagine lying at the beach, taking a nap and then awake to this creature
This is real modern art.
Something about this just speaks directly to my sould, I can't describe how much I love these creations, the way they look and move
Just beautiful. The train at the end is mesmerizing. It feels like only Mother Nature and Theo Jansen make creatures like this.
Te quedó chingon Theo
Spectacular, exceptional! I'm soo impressed. Congratulations👏👏👏♥️🧿🍀
Simply amazing! Thanks for sharing your engineering genius with us. 😁
Love the sounds it makes as it moves and the caterpillar part at the end‼️💜
This is amazing!
Another wonderful creation
❤❤❤❤❤❤ so graceful and beautiful
Was für eine Konstruktion!!!!Diese Feinarbeit, Klasse!😊
It's always a treat to me to see your work ! Thank you so much. These intricacies of the mechanical evoke a kind of emotional vibes in me about "working together" as creatures, more or less comfortably ;-). And I think it's beautifull that the stuttering part in the movement actually helps the herd.
That is amazing! The amount of time this must have taken to design, much less construct is stunning!
You again leave me speechless with yet another 'piece' of art!❤❤
What a beautiful herd of creatures!
This makes me believe that everything is going to be OK. Because there is intelligence, creativity and beauty in the world
Beautiful!
Art and Engineering, whats not to like. Wonderful work.
What a beautiful creature.
Very exciting new development! Saw you in Miami many years ago. Event of a lifetime! Thank you.
Wow man, u are still making it! That's so impressive!
very cool theo. ive been following your work for decades now.
Amazing! Wow!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Фантастика!
Now THIS is the real contemporary art
Wow, first time ever seeing you work. Truly amazing talent! Will follow...❤
You’re still around and making art! I’ve seen your stuff as a kid! This is so cool!
Amazing! Well done. 🎉
Beyond brilliant!👏👏🩷
They are so beautiful to look at and watch.
I just found your work and this amazing project of wind and engineering. I will go exploring your other work, but I have to say this is a phenomenal piece of kinetic art and engineering, congratulations on a masterwork! 👏👏👏
Amazing artwork!
I don't know what I'm seeing, but I love it! Can this be called a kinetic sculpture? The precision and engineering skills needed to create it! I think I must subscribe.
Whenever I see your latest creation my first thought is always wow what next and you have never disappointed.
Takes going where the wind blows to a whole other level 🤘🤯
Imagine seeing the tracks it made in the sand without seeing the strandbeest itself and how confused you would be!
I had taught my students about your job (in Chile, South America), and I loved to see their faces of fascination. I would love to see your work in person someday! Now I am so close, I think that could be true.
Kinetic artworks never cease to amuse me, as if its a sentient being
Wat Koninklijk Wandelt Het Alsof Het Er Altijd Geweest Is.🐚Congratulations!
VERY COOL! I have always appreciated these creations!
These are fascinating, beautiful and creepy all at once. Thank you all for making and sharing this video. 😊
Fantastic! Love it!
Amazing! Well done you! ♥️
Wow!🥰👏 A few days ago I was just wondering about you and your creations ❤🙌👌🌟
Absolutely fabulous ,I love it well done for sure
Just magnificent!
I wish I had found this channel 10 years ago. Incredible❤. At first glance it appears to defy the laws of physics and thermodynamics (the perpetual motion enigma) but once you realise how it works it is amazing.
Incredible!!
This guy took beach combing to a new level
Its coke for my mind....beautiful !!!! Riders on the storm ...
That's fantastic!!!
Amazing!!!
Love it! 👏👏👏
Quiet an Entourage. Thanks for that
Brilliant !!!
I will probably never get to see an ocean let alone a strandbeest, but I can see & hear in your videos. What a fascinating and joyful creation.
Awesome!
Wow pretty cool...first time seeing your work
This is so surreal. LOVE IT
Amazing work, very fascinating!
I picture a StarWars desert scene with a nomadic tribe cruising past on their way to wherever the wind takes them. This one unquestionably deserves "Rex" in the title.
Amazing. Fantastic.
Such a beauty!
Incredible, amazing.
WTF! I will be playing this all night long and searching for your other works until I fall asleep spooning my laptop at 5 A.M. You are a genius!
What magnificent beests!
These machines are simply unbelievable. Wow!! Outstanding achievement!!!
Epically beautiful!
It's plain and simple, this man is a Genius, Like so many People I've enjoyed his Designs for years, Fantastic!💯🤔👍😆
