My 2014 Cb500F has "budget" suspension too but I just translate that as "COMFORTABLE". When you hit a road marker on an R6 suspension you bounce off the road. The Cb500F you don't even feel it's there. Unless you are pushing a bike 8/10 or greater you will not notice a difference in the handling. You WILL notice a difference in comfort. Enjoy your bike guys!

I'm 6/2 220. I made my MT07 look like a Grom lol. I upgraded the forks with Ohlins cartridges and the rear shock to a remote reservoir Penske shock all sprung for my weight and it made a massive difference. I was getting too much brake dive with the stock setup and bottoming the forks all the time so I basically made my own version of an MT07 SP.

Not gonna lie, the suspension on my MT-07 is budget garbage. Buy the bike then buy the Ohlins FSK 108 Fork Spring Kit. Best $250 I've spent on my MT. New springs, heavier oil, and preload adjustable fork caps. Bike is now a completely different ride. No harsh nose dive and it feels a lot less sketchy in corners.

New rider here. I fell in love with this bike and ALMOST pulled the trigger on one but I knew I wanted to go offroad. So I did what any Yamaha fan would do and went with it's sister bike, the Tenere-700. Once I realized they shared the same engine it was a must. I have an 01 gxsr 600fi (only a few rides so far as I've gotten my hands on it recently) and now can compare it to my 98 vfr800fi interceptor. The interceptor feels like my first bike (2012 cbr 250r) but is just fatter and has more power with a much spongier suspension. Seating position isn't too aggressive and I enjoy it much more in stop and go (it's just heavier than most modern bikes). A difference is that has an adjustable suspension in both rear and front with hard and softness. At one point I felt it that it was far to soft in the front, and just gave it a few tweaks to have it fit and feel more how I'd like it. So an adjustable suspension is a plus, but most newer riders won't exactly notice finer details as much. I recently got an 01 gxsr 600 garaged a good amount of its life and got it all tuned up and such, I really feel that a harder more aggressive suspension is beneficial on the highway compared to a soft one. I have to bring up the fact that every time I get on the gxsr I miss the hydraulic clutch of the vfr compared to the stiffer feeling clutch cable, that is my main gripe but I just have to have a much stronger pull. I have to say that fairings are still a must have for me, but I can see myself enjoying a naked bike as well. Obviously that gxsr has better suspension components compared to my vfr though. I remember way back then when the MT first came out and everyone really was on it, CC you happen to know if insurance is still WAY cheaper on nakeds, pretty obvious that super sports are usually up there in price even when mine is quite older. The vfr is kinda feels like a grandpa bike since my insurance sees it as "not a supersport" and not doubling rates on me hehe, funny thing is that thing will out torque the gxsr much like the MT.

I have the 2016 model of mt07, so i can speak for that model. Yes the suspension is not stiff but it's a urban bike, a pure street hooligan. Button end power is explosive and the bike is agile like a supermoto. You need a "soft" suspension on a street bike to get threw all the city bumps. I totally agree with you.

hello, I also have the mt 07 model. 2020 and I really always heard and read countless criticisms about the apparently weak suspension,.. front and back,.. and I always found it strange, because I even feel a little stiff, and everyone said it was soft,.. unstable,..very soft etc,..only, later I found out that in that year, or a little before my purchase, yamaha had in fact made some improvements,..and these reported problems are almost in the majority on the models of 1- generation,..2014 to 2017 I believe,..but of course it can be improved!? Of course I do,.. but I don't think it's worth it for normal use. and the bike even curves well,.. so, summarizing from 2020 to now, it's already a little better,..and it's noticeable,..said by those who have ridden with the 1-model, and 2-model,. .. I'm glad you're enjoying mt 07 a lot,. it's really fun!

Take it out some twisty roads and ride it with some spirit and you won't be happy with the soft suspension. That will get real squirrelly under hard braking and hard cornering. I just cut down the spacer in the front fork and changed to a 20 w oil and it made a big difference without affecting the suspension during cruising enough to complain.

that pogo effect was horrible on mt09, but after dyno it was completely gone. doesnt rise and dive anymore like before far smoother. i think u prob right bout mt07 being better overall, but i cant afford to change bikes again, im one with mt09, need to keep her for long time for economical reasons, but also quite happy with it, n will love it even more years later when i can eventually afford ohlins lol

I own the 2022 MT-07. I'm in the middle 50/50 when it comes to the suspension. At times I dislike it because when your doing 70 mph and you hit a slight bump your definitely going to feel it. However, there are times where I feel the suspension just makes this bike the fun riding bike that it is. CycleCruza is right the suspension is not all that bad that some people claim it to be, everyone is different though, for me I'm not changing it I love this bike just the way it is.

The MT-09 suspension doesn’t suck. The only thing that changes on the SP is the Ohlins rear shock which isn’t really needed. Nice to have but not needed. They really fixed the MT-09 with the gen 3. The new frame is a big part of that. But they dropped the steering head which fixed the front and the rear got a swingarm that mounts on the inside now which helps a lot along with the mounting arm for the rear shock. You should definitely ride the new one because it’s really not worth comparing the new one to the old one. It’s a completely different bike. The only way I’ve heard the MT-07 suspension being knocked is on twisty roads that it doesn’t settle when on the side of the tire which can make you not confident pushing it through turns. I don’t think it really matters or is a deal breaker. There’s other things about the MT-07 that keep me on the new MT-09 that I think are more important to be addressed if they decide to update the bike. If they do I’d highly consider getting one but the price would probably go up about a grand.

Yo…Yamaha should really make a tuono 660 competitor version of this, they can give it compliant and higher quality suspension without making it too firm…I don’t think it needs it but it would benefit from the option for much less than aprillia can give it to us for

Yamaha just needs to make a MT-07 SP version, most people would buy it. I would pay an extra 2k for it but honestly the stock MT-07 suspension is just fine for street riding as long as you not overweight. I just love the feel of this bike, suits me well.

my guess why they didn’t add adjustable front suspension is for legal reasons. think about it, a new rider or maybe even someone with bad intentions goes and adjusts the suspension than gets into a wreck. having a non adjustable suspension takes the manufacturer and dealership out of liability. specially in the U.S. when everyone’s looking to point a finger at each other, even more so during hard times.

These are not cartridge forks and a basic adjustable preload shock. Average adjustable cartridge forks off most modern sport bikes and shock will do much better than what you have. You don't need what you call "Race" suspension. You need what I stated above. Premium is a teir above what you get from OEMs. This is not about being Firm, it's about conforming to the condition and setup for your weight. A better product will do that.

Bottom line: If you are a casual or "straight line" rider of average weight, stock suspension will be adequate. If you are a bit frisky in the twisties, do track days, or on the heavier side, an upgrade will make you wonder why you waited. A good suspension makes everyone a better (and, by extension, a faster) rider...

The MT07 is a perfect inner city 🏍. Though I have a MT09 SP now cuz of the combination of highway commuting, I wanted cruise control. That said my 2019 MT07 was great, especially living in Atlanta then the only highway riding I saw was going up into the mountains. And a undeniable fact about streets in Atlanta is their HORRIBLE. So that soft bump absorbing suspension is right at home. As for a SP model MT07, I doubt Yamaha will release one. As it'll basically do away with the MT07 being a budget friendly 🏍. As nearly all dealerships will price it round 10k. Which isn't too far off the MT09 base price. If they did a MT07 SP people wouldn't buy the base model MT07 at all. Given as a upgraded suspension, cruise control and possibly a quick shifter. The price difference between base MT07 and MT07 SP wouldn't be large enough to justify going for the base model.

On some bikes like the new Ducati Streetfighter V4S that has premium semi-active suspension it actually has a "street" setting for the suspension that softens the suspension quite a bit. You definitely don't want to be riding around on a race firm suspension on Cleveland Ohio's filthy pot-hole tar snake streets. You don't really need to do much to this bike besides put on an aftermarket exhaust for proper sounds and a fender eliminator kit. I would only do the suspension if it were a track-only bike.

I have a 2020 MT-07. Bought it new off the floor. I love the stock suspension. It really does soak up the road imperfections perfectly. I weigh just about 160 with gear and I have my rear preload set to my liking. I actually have the rear sitting up pretty high to keep the chassis more reactive. I push this bike hard in the canyons, and I can't complain. It goes where I point it and holds the line when I'm over on the end of the tire going 20+. Granted, I'm using the best street tire on the market... Michelin Power GP. With these tires paired to this bike, it really is a weapon in the twisties. Don't hesitate to grab one of these. The agility paired with the sound, character, and torque curve makes such a special experience. The way it engine brakes from high RPMs is so special to me. Reminds me a bit of a NA V8 muscle car like a straight piped E92 M3. The blip of the throttle followed by the roar of the CP2 on the downshift is just satisfying. If you wanna see what I mean, checkout RidePOV.
