I got "stuck" renting a minivan on a ski trip to Colorado. It turned out to be the best experience in a car I've ever had. Getting people in/out of it with their luggage; getting ski equipment in/out...the fuel economy, the ride... It was the perfect people hauler for the real world. If you haven't used one and you're turned off by a minivan, try one....it's just so much better than an SUV for the money.

My childless brother is on his third Odyssey for just that reason. The first one was used as a delivery van, but the last two have just been his personal car. He goes camping and sleeps in back, picks stuff up for his business, and carries people around in it. I rode in his previous one on a few long trips (LA to SF) and it was exceptionally comfortable, with an ideal seating position. His ex-wife snoozed in back the whole way.

I'm probably going to be buying one of these for my next vehicle. I need my next vehicle to have three rows that can all be used for adults. So the Highlander is probably out. Unless the Grand Highlander is going to have a full adult sized third row.

Your comment about minivan drivers getting a pass is spot-on, and something I've noticed first-hand for years now, but never heard anyone else put it into words until now. As somebody who drove various turbo/V8 BMW/Audi/Lexus sedans before I had kids, I now find myself piloting a Honda Odyssey. The way people react to me if I do something stupid, is totally different in the van. It's like they're thinking "That poor schmuck must be barely holding it together with his 3.5 kids, dog, wife yelling at him, lack of sleep and 9 to 5 job. How could I be mad at him?"

Saw an Odyssey full throttling from the ramp flat out on the freeway and had a laugh, though it did move very quickly, must've got up into triple digits without much issue and easily out of sight from the horizon.

@@oldtwinsna8347 Old Honda Odyssey's were adequately powered and geared high so running at 100 mph was actually comfortable. The Sienna I tried in '00 was a bit pokey and didn't like that top end; the Grand Caravan couldn't even make it to that speed without a downhill and tailwind.

Cops even ignore minivans! A friend had an Odyssey for a while (I loved that V6), and he drove it every bit as dickishly as anything else he's owned, even in front of cops. He never got pulled over for anything. I've witnessed it firsthand. He would laugh his ass off as I yelled, "what the fuck?!" at the injustice. He knows I get extra attention from cops driving around in my modified RSX, so he once asked an officer if he pays attention to minivans. Cop straight up told him, "no."

Mid 30s MPG in a huge minivan that likely will be extremely reliable is an incredible accomplishment for Toyota. We still have an '08 Sienna with 170k and it still drives and shifts like new, but I am lucky to get 22-23 MPG and in today's economy that really does add up. Great review!

Yep. When my wife drives we get around 34 I’m a 33.2 guy. Oklahoma to Toronto averaged 33.0 mpg. I was driving to get there. Love it! Materials are practical your paying for the power train.

I have a 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan with 222k on it. I have refreshed the suspension, rebuilt the steering, rebuilt and fixed all kinds of other little things that go wrong or break on a car with 222k miles on it and I absolutely adore it. It only gets 20Mpg at best, but it rides well, it's quiet (to me) and it's easy as hell to load and unload my two kids. Having a Sienna like this would be a dream, I can only imagine the difference 20-years makes in terms of refinement; to me, this would be a luxury car. Minivans are fantastic.

As I get older I start to appreciate this type of car more and more.

Mark yelling at the van to shut up during the drive segment really made my night!

Have a 2021 platinum sienna. One of the best purchases my family has ever made next to my moms Prius prime. My dad has a 2019 Porsche cayenne s platinum and he said he enjoys both vehicles the same but for different reasons. Im 19 and it's awesome being able to carpool 6 of my friends around with everyone having their own volume controls, chargers, more than one cup holder, and lots of leg room. one of my friends has a boyfriend and he's 6'4 and said he sat comfortably in the third row and had enough headroom which was mind-blowing to me. Hoping Toyota makes a Lexus variant of the minivan. I'd buy that over anything when I have the means to buy my own PERSONAL vehicle haha

@@thevanmancan4850 Never say never. Toyota has made worse decisions for its Lexus brand, e.g. the discontinued HS250 and CT200 and the current LS500. I expect the UX to be discontinued due to lack of sales. And let's not forget the Scion debacle and numerous other models for which there were few takers, e.g. Toyota Prius C, Toyota Prius v. I'm convinced that there is a market for a properly equipped and priced Lexus version of the Sienna or Alphard van. I'd buy one.

I am 1 year into owning a 2021 Sienna platinum. I agree with everything in your review, except I think the AWD system may be better than the credit you give it. We’ve got about 16,000 miles on our van and it’s been incredible. I drive it like I stole it because I also know how bulletproof this drivetrain is. Get one, you’ll be glad you did.

We up here tend to rate AWD in terms of how well it drives when there's six inches of snow on the ground. Because the family wanted to fly up for the holidays and despite the weather the flight landed anyways.

Whole heartedly agree with your review… Told myself I would never be caught in minivan as a car enthusiast. But I finally bit my own tongue last year with the purchase of new Sienna XSE. The best purchase ever!

Spot-on review. I put 4-5k miles on my 22 Sienna every month and I cannot fathom doing it in any other vehicle. The mileage being spot on with what Toyota claimed (34-36) is kind of a shock as so many other manufacturers get it completely bonkers-wrong.

So interesting. I've been driving mine for about a year and my mileage is about 30-32mpg. I love this vehicle. My one wish is that they would make a Sienna Prime (Plug in Hybrid) like they have on the RAV4. The main reason my mileage is so poor is because i do a lot of very short drives. Picking up, dropping off the kids and errands. Haveing 40 or so miles on electric range would be a game changer.

@@MegaGoldring Short drives are where the Sienna (or hybrid's in general) shine. If you're only getting 30-32 mpg you should try general fuel economy tips like coasting to stops and keeping that gauge in "eco" when accelerating as much as possible. I get 38 average on mine but trips to the grocery store where I have a few stoplights and only get up to 40mph i can pull 45+ mpg.

@@peacefultorture I notice when I start the car the engine will turn for the first few minutes, if I drive more than that I can get in the high 30’s, but otherwise I turn of the car before I can get good use of the EV only

I have owned my 2021 Sienna SE for over a year and have put almost 18k miles on it. 90% of those miles have been hauling ass (80+ mph) down Texas interstates and toll roads for my daily commute. It’s a way of life and part of my suburban culture. I’d have to say the vehicle is less than quiet at those speeds and the audio system is subpar but I’ve still managed 34.3 mpg despite my speed demon ways.

Never been a minivan guy with the exception of family vacations when they were indispensable. Flash forward to today- I pulled up beside a Sienna in black with black alloy wheels and thought it looked stunning. At first I thought “What are you thinking man!” Your typical caustic (and appreciated) humor made room for a practical choice that gets me pondering again. Not sure how the wife is going to take it yet. If you lose me as a subscriber, just send flowers.

We’ve had our 2022 Sienna for a little over a year and 23,500 miles. We love it. We are getting 35.7 mpg which is pretty close to their advertised number. No other van comes close. It was a great choice for us.

That eCVT planetary transmission is one of the best in the market. It's incredible engineering.

Gotta love a straightforward review video. No loud soundtrack, no 20 minute video intro; just the info.

Dad with 3 kids under 10 and I drive an Odyssey. 36 MPG is mind blowing. I'm currently getting 20 in the city, 27 on the highway. This will be my next vehicle, but I'd like to see Honda's next generation Odyssey before I pull the trigger.

It is strange to me that the Odyssey in Japan looks so good and the one in North America does not :) I was hoping H brings an “off-road” version of Japanese Odyssey. That would be my dream car to be honest ;) Instead they stopped manufacturing it completely and are about to close the factory… :(

@@LLG47 engine, steering, handling. Honda beats Toyota badly on all those fronts. Everything else is comparable except MPG. So if you want that get a Sienna but for anyone who enjoys driving and needs the practicality of a minivan, there's no other way.

Bought the XSE model in January of 21’ it’s been a pleasure to drive, pure comfort ease of use. I have a hitch installed aftermarket by Curt for my bike rack. Awesome! I drive “normal” and use this van for my job as a vendor stopping at multiple stores a day as well as my daily driver. I’ve logged 36,000 miles, had a few trips to Florida from Texas, had zero problems! As of right now I’ve averaged 32.8 mpg over the last 6 months.

An HONEST review, I’ll support you all day long because of this.

This was such a refreshing/ cathartic review. Thank you for all your hard work.

I have driven/owned bmws and mini coopers. The driving experience is phenomenal. But as far as road trips extending 4 days to 2 weeks, i love my 2015 Sienna. It is high enough that i can get on fire roads and very light off road. Ultimate family car. 3 row SUVs are so cramped in the 3rd row. My kids love moving back and forth to different rows which helps alleviate their boredom. Driving for 6 hours straight per leg is so comfortable without any back or leg pains

I know what you mean about maximizing fuel economy. I got my wife a 22 RAV4 hybrid and I like trying to stay in EV as much as possible, it's almost a game.

Just bought my wife a new Odyssey rather than this. I preferred the Sienna for a few reasons with fuel economy being #1. We are also still driving a 13 year old V6 Odyssey that has given us zero drivetrain problems so there was still a lot of security in buying such a tried and true V6. We also did not like the folding seat mechanisms and a few other minor things in the Sienna. To be honest, I actually want one of each and might even get a Sienna when the old Odyssey finally dies.......if it ever does. You cannot beat a minivan for real life utility.

@@joseacuna3239 the only people that might say suvs are superior are people that like some cargo and off roading or people that have never owned a van. I used a '94 plymouth grand voyager 3.3 for work for 10 years that never smoked or burned oil and had nearly 300,000 miles on it. Currently have owned an '08 uplander that has a great, punchy 3.9 vvt v6 with 248,000 miles currently, no smoking or oil burning. Going to give it to my dad and get a used ody or sienna v6 later this year.

@David G - How did you like the Sienna vs the Odyssey as a highway people-hauler? As an owner of a 22-year-old Odyssey, I have always been impressed with the sheer volume of people, dogs and gear I could cruise with at 75-85 mph for hours and hours (with occasional runs at 100 mph when on my own).

@@ThatOneVideo1 They are just too expensive and large and not the greatest lookers. Unless you need need to carry a lot of cargo CONSTANT and people it's a hard sell compared to a cheaper crossover that I'd more compact.

I love this car. My parents traded their 2020 Odyssey for a 2022 Sienna to haul the grand kids. The Odyssey is great but only the ride quality and V6 is better. Everything else is Sienna hands down. I would trade my 2019 Pilot for one of these but my wife won’t allow it. These do get the mpg as advertised. Think of this as a Prius minivan. From 0-20 it’s pretty quick because it’s all electric. A Prime version would be next level.

Absolutely agree with you concerning the grill. I grew up through the era of giant tail fins, horse collar grills, and massive extruded chrome. All these design fads, especially the tail fins rapidly fell off favor and the cars that had them could either be bought for pennies on a dollar or ended up in the crusher for scrap.

To be fair tho those, the quality of those vehicles was pretty abysmal. This will hold its Value simply by being a Toyota grill or no grill. Some people said the RAV4 was too edgy and it still sold like hot cakes.

Yeah, alot can be forgiven when a vehicle does what you need it to do. Reliably get you where you need to go each day with no drama. Unfortunately, GM seems to focus on nice design and sketchy reliability. Of course while my own uplander (used for work)has been relatively headache free, many others were not so fortunate).

Unless you were burned by Hondas faulty transmission on the Odyssey and most recently the oil dilution issues on the 1.5 motors...

Great video Mark! I actually purchased my 2021 Toyota XSE as a direct result of the initial review video you guys did. I was interested to see what your thoughts were, and ironically I have the exact same gripes that you brought up (I.e. those door panels are only good for gatorade bottles). That being said, it has to be the most relaxing vehicle I've ever owned - full stop. We just finished a 100+mile road trip for our holidays, and I was averaging 30mpg with the AC on full blast, through the mountains.....so it was nice surprise when I refueled on the other end. Great package, great car, happy dad.

Toyota should really make a Sienna Prime with the same powertrain from the RAV4 Prime. It would be nice to have 300 hp for road trips with hills and all electric driving for those local errands. Even if I only have 30 miles EV range that will allow me to do 80%+ of my drives in all electric. Plus, on road trips I don't need to worry about finding public chargers and waiting hours to charge.

Thanks for creating another excellent video. We bought a new Sienna in 2005 for our young family which we still drive to this day. Our Sienna has 200km and has been bullet-proof. The Sienna makes an excellent family vehicle.

I grew up in a 2nd gen, it is an absolute reliable beast.

We got one in January in platinum which has the ventilated front seats. I don’t have a sweat or heat issue like you mention. Obviously we went for the top model, but it does bypass your issue while also giving you 360 camera, heads up display, heated second row and a few other things. I’m only averaging 33.4 mpg but I drive somewhat aggressively in Philly

I have two kids under two and live in a climate that gets regular snow in the winter. We bought a 2015 Sienna XLE AWD this year and the thing is AWESOME. It gets great economy for its size has enough power to feel comfortable passing and has insane utility. I fit 5 full sheets of plywood and 30 2x4 in the back with the second row removed. Best part? The wife loves it. Minivan is life.

I love minivans and my Pacifica hybrid. We haven’t filled up the car in 3 mos and it’s our daily family hauler. It’s just so versatile. We previous had a Mercedes GL (bc my husband didn’t want an minivan), but w twins and grandparents, we couldnt fit anything in the suv. Once we got the minivan, my husband quickly appreciated its versatility. I just wish there will be an affordable ev minivan soon!

@@oi32df this is my 3rd Pacifica. My leased 2017 was the first model yr and had several recalls during my first yr which was annoying and a hassle. But yr 2 and 3 were trouble free. The 2020 lease replacement was perfect. But that was replaced w a 2021 refreshed hybrid model. Have that for 16 mos and so far so good except one of the brake sensors failed in mo 12. Due to the parts shortage, it took a month to get the parts. But Chrysler took care of everything. We had luxury cars prior to this and I had expected horrible Chrysler service. But my dealer has been amazing w my services. W the failed brake sensor, they told me not to drive it to be safe. They picked it up and constantly kept me informed of the situation - all covered under warranty. I never thought I would own an American car, but I love my Pacifica.

Thank you very much for thee honesty. We had a minivan years back, and constantly say to each other, "I miss the van". nuff said.

@@texanfournow The Previa has its limitations, but it was handsomely futuristic and had a very useful amount of space. They could easily build an EV equivalent as the Previa's distinctive characteristic was the powertrain under the vehicle. Many EVs are much like that.

The wife and I are looking into new cars and this is on the top of my list. To say she was shock that 2 out 3 vehicles on my list are minivans would be a understatement.

Rented one. Loaded it with 6 adult humans, bags. Did a 400ml roundtrip on all mountain roads / highways and spent $35 on gas total. Made me a believer.

Never thought to compare an X7 to this van but you make great points. Almost 17 MPG's on a daily driver is bad. This might be your next vehicle

Great video as usual! This may sound weird but I’ve been adding the music you guys have on your Car Play screens for years now to my favorites list and I have to ask…where do you guys find your music? I’ve discovered some great tunes from watching your videos.

This video is testament to why Savage Geese is my absolute favorite go-to for car reviews... I am single, no kids, and yet was absolutely RIVETED. I am in no way, shape, or form in the market for a minivan; and yet now have a new appreciation for this class/brand/model vehicle.

Great take on the Sienna, Mark. As a recent 2021 XLE owner, here's my two cents. I kept it over about 8 months and 5,500 miles but traded it in for a luxury car because it was lacking refinement like you talk about. Yes, the ride is great, near luxury like, but at least the XLE was loud on the highway (mostly wind/noise coming through windows). The Platinum has laminated glass and makes a big difference, but yes, stereo isn't great no matter which model you get. MPG: Averaged 32.6 over life of van but probably 80% of miles were highway. Around town putting around can easily get into the 40s, but don't expect 36 on the highway unless you go no more than 70 and are on flat ground not using the a/c (not kidding). MPGs drop to about 32-33 with a/c and going 75, even less if very hilly, don't expect great highway mileage. In the cold, going between 75-80 yielded a terrible 26 MPG. Sport mode does make it livelier/more responsive. But it cost nothing to try it, bought it for $40k new ($2.5k off sticker), Carvana gave $46.5k in trade and just for fun, a few months after dumping it, decided to run another trade in and it's up to over $52k, I almost fell over. If buy one, go with a new Platinum or Limited (assuming Limited has the laminated glass, could never figure that out) and try to get a little off of sticker, don't buy used as my XLE would not be worth anywhere near the $56k Carvana would charge for it, lol. But yes, if Lexus had a version, maybe with a 6 cyl hybrid, it would probably still be in the garage.

High speeds kill fuel efficiency inevitably, no matter what you drive. That's just the nature of drag due to pushing a shape through air. At least with the Sienna you get better gas mileage than anything else of similar size, and at lower speeds (common many places), the gas mileage is excellent.

The resale value is insane. Last time I checked my 21 LE that I paid MSRP for was at $50k. Carmax is asking over $60k or more for used Premiums now.

It must feel so cool to drive a car for 8 months AND make money off of it haha. The market for these cars is still nuts in the US, people wanting to buy one cannot get it at MSRP, and might not get a 2022 at this point at all, many I see in the internet have already been bumped to a 2023 model and any deal regarding financing/prices can be in the limbo. I live outside the US, but while we could have delayed buying the sienna for another year, inflation and exchange rate shenanigans mean we strongly suspect the same car will be significantly more expensive next year(the way it works here, they're kind of locked in for the pricing the announced at the start of year), and also, similarly to the US, certain cars are not depreciating, or have barely taken a hit, like my wife's 2013 (pre CVT & turbo) Honda CRV, with 40K miles, we're seeing it offered for 5K USD less than for what she bought it for, so we wanna jump on that.

I totally agree with you after having a Sienna for 9 years. For my next car, if there is a Sienna with higher-level insulation and plug-in hybrid, I won't waste even a second considering any other cars.

We might end up doing the same thing in a couple of years. But I still hope there is a "Lexus" version of it since I am very sensitive to the cabin noise on the highway.@@Axevertis We did a lot of road trips with it and there are many more to come.

i think the next gen is arriving next year with the '24 model. i get that minivan is still a declining segment, but honda really should come up with a new gen every 5 years (3 for a launch and 2 for a refresh).

There should be new category of quickness like 0-20mph, from launch without reving. Because in the cities where speeds limits are below 30mph and lots of stop ,start traffics, that is all that matters. Considering that I think Toyota hybrids aren't bad . They are pretty quick off the line.

My husband and I just got the 2022 XLE and we love it so far! We have the red and we get so many positive comments on it. I am having twins in 5 days and we cannot wait to see how this does as a family car.

I can’t disagree. I went from an X5 to an MDX and neither seem to give my wife and I what we really are looking for in a real utility vehicle. My wife doesn’t want a huge SUV, so honestly a minivan fits the bill.

Dimensionally a minivan is a huge suv they are around 200in+ thats similar to a traverse. But interior room is cavernous. Most midsize SUV are like 190-195. Occasional third row vs full third row really comes down to length.

I love driving around our 2015 AWD Sienna - as you said you basically become an braindead zombie NPC Car that folks do not rage at. They simply think you are a in a slow ass minivan and will move around you. Instead of being in traffic you BECOME the traffic. I love the ride height too - it really lets me see that the FBI and CIA are constantly monitoring my brainwaves from the fourth dimension because I emailed Rob Lowe pictures of my cat.

Amazing honest review! I loved it. Evey video on Sienna I saw were saying all these good stuff, but when you took that water bottle and tried to fit that in, that was it! I knew you were very practical and I could relate 100%, although I preordered one (probably will get it by 2025) I will get one that has those features tweaked in. Yes I still love the car, but its good to know.

Great review. We have the '22 AWD. The only real complaint I have about it that you already touched upon are the bad seats and AC system. It's really bad for summers, you're constantly sweating and there's not enough cold air circulation. But other than that, I can't really complain. The fact that Toyota made such a big vehicle with a hybrid AWD engine that gets 36mpg is incredible engineering. In all honestly, this generation of Siennas is one of, if not the most bang for your buck vehicles you can get.

A/C system is tuned for fuel economy if you have ECO mode on. The best way to fix the A/C issue is to turn off the "ECON" mod of the climate control.

We needed this video. Everytime I see Sienna content, it makes me think this is totally the right move for our family. We're on the Prime waitlist and hoping for one to deliver to us before the phase-out. It doesn't look good and most likely will switch our deposit to a 2023 Sienna allocation O_O

I had a 2021 Sienna XSE (only sold it because I MADE $5k above what I paid and I am moving from Cali to Tennessee and cannot drive 2 cars as my wife cannot drive on highways.) and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! The BEST auto that I have ever owned UNTIL I just got the Kia Sportage Plug In Hybrid and it appears to me to be Equal to the Quality and features of the Sienna BUT I also get the Panoramic Roof that the Sienna did not have. The first 3,000 miles I got 36 to 38 miles and then I started getting 42 miles consistently (I did NOT use the digital indicators - I used the total miles driven and recorded that and then how many gallons to fill up!) and a few times I even got 45 mpg. I am ready to buy a Plug In Hybrid Sienna when that comes out - Great Van but I am very happy with the Sportage until then. The RAV4 Plug in Hybrid is impossible to find and WAY too UNNECESSARILY expensive! Toyota is too greedy there for sure!

Looks like a well thought out, balanced design.

One thought as the long term segments are fairly new: introduce us to the actual car a little more. What's its trim level? How much did it cost?

Even at 18mpg vs 36mpg, with gas at $4/gal (I don't think gas will fall much lower again short of some catastrophic event), you save more than $1100 every 10k miles. Having to change a battery pack every 150k miles will still easily net more than $10k of savings (at the prices Mark mentioned)

And hybrid batteries almost never need replaced. My BIL has a ‘09 hybrid Escape with a zillion miles and the original high voltage battery.

Any automotive enthusiast is just that. They appreciate all vehicle classes.

I was sold on my next vehicle being a minivan. Then I got sucked back into the SUV market again particularly looking at the new Honda Pilot. But I keep coming back to this minivan for all the reasons you mentioned and more like being able to sleep in it for camping trips and road trips. A minivan makes so much sense for daily driving which is what most people use their fancy suvs for anyways.

Man. I almost got this minivan. I ultimately went with the Honda Odyssey. Where I live is mountainous terrain and I had my little Lexus CT200h and it was dangerously slow. Merging onto the highway was a daily Russian roulette. Had I still lived in flat Florida, 100% woulda gotten it.

I got a 21 limited and flat tow my 2100lbs drift car with it. One time I had a chain pop off and pulled over to the shoulder. Got it fixed and had no trouble getting back to speed on a busy CA freeway on a Friday evening. Sister has a ct200h and i feel you on the sluggishness of that thing, but the 21 Sienna has some decent torque.

The front drill draws inspiration from Darth Vader. Maybe Toyota wants to sell their vehicles in a galaxy far far away

Toyota makes a lot of luxury vans in Asia, they have lots of experience n the best in the world by far. The Noah, Alphard are hot sellers.

Mark and I are on the same page in that we wanted more "luxury" features on this redesigned Sienna. Having driven a 2014 Sienna Limited FWD with all options since new, I was appalled that the generation 4 Sienna Limited lost the rear sunroof, the power stowing and reclining 3rd row seats and most importantly the height adjustable headlights since the Sienna can sag badly when fully loaded blinding oncoming drivers and reducing visibility. What the Sienna needs is a standard rear air suspension to keep the vehicle level and its headlights on the road. I expected the new Platinum trim to be much nicer. Why doesn't it at least have a fully adjustable front passenger seat with height adjustment and lumbar support. And lets have power extendable seat cushions for both front seats and a seat position memory for the front passenger seat. Why doesn't the North American version of the gen 4 Sienna have available power adjustable middle row seats with power extending leg rests like the gen 4 Sienna assembled and sold in China? The Chinese version also retains the dual sunroofs. Other than the wonderfully spacious interior,, a great aspect of our Sienna has been its "stealth" aspect. I experienced an amazing amount of belligerent behavior from other drivers with some bordering on assault while sedately driving Mercedes and Lexus vehicles but there's been none of that while driving the Sienna. For that reason alone, I am reluctant to go back to driving recognizable "luxury" vehicles but there is no way I would buy a generation 4 Sienna in its current format. And that is from a TMC shareholder!

Great review as always. Really sad that minivans are dying. When I will have kids and if more than 2, I cannot imagine traveling in a wagon or an SUV with a lot of luggage.

The same minivans are available now as a decade ago (Chrysler/Dodge, Toyota, Honda, and Kia). They sell well enough that they keep making them, though the Odyssey hasn't been updated substantially over the years (not that it really needed it). Toyota took the Sienna seriously enough to move it to this very efficient hybrid drivetrain, which I think is perfect for a minivan.

We bought one for our family. Battery draining issues had us tow it 3 times to the dealer. Software issues apparently and Toyota said they are aware of it. Just hit 9000 kms and we are trading it in on a Yukon diesel. Done with the minivans. Quality is not like the previous Toyota’s we have had.

Made in Japan makes a difference. Same as "Designed in California, made in China".

This Sienna is the thing that we wait for a long time. Hybrid 35MPG in city and highway instead of 18/24 MPG. The 2.5L engine is really easy to maintain and share with many cars from Camry, RAV 4, Lexus ES, etc. We drive smooth and slower than typical cars, and getting 35-40 MPG is something that we want for a family hauler.

@@alexnutcasio936 LOL, all minivan is meant to be boring, stay with you till you are in a coffin. The HSD is very reliable and easily reaches 300k miles without issues if you maintain it well. effectively 1/2.3 fuel cost in a year is a lot even if I have to replace the battery every 5 years, I am still in surplus. With my old 2004 Sienna, I can barely get 22 mpg, in the city, only 14 mpg. With a new Sienna, I get at least 37 MPG wherever I drive. Timing belts cost $500, valve timing cover or sparkplugs change, easily $400. With the 2.5L, I can do it by myself in less than 30 minutes. I will never go back to primitive nonhybrid gasoline cars.

I want a vehicle where the entire body is plastic gloss black honeycomb.

We owned our Sienna for 7 problem free years. Only had 75k miles on it. It ate rear brakes, which I was told by a Toyota tech is common. It was very loud inside, but the V6 made the car deceptively fast for what it was. Struggled to get anything over 22 mpg on the highway though. My family does miss its usability, it is way more functional than any other vehicle that works for families.

My 2016 is quite quiet inside for what it is. I am able to carry on a whispered conversation with my wife while we are blasting down the highway. The loudest thing is the HVAC when turned up high, and it's nothing abnormal. I do sometimes wish I had CabinTalk or whatever Toyota calls their Driver Speakeasy to reach the ears of the 3rd row passengers.

They also eat tires like they’re cheap. I ended up swapping out the stock rubber in my brand new 2016 SE at 22,000 miles for a set of Yokohama Geolandar G055 at that time. I’m almost at 75,000 miles on that set and am probably going to make it to 80,000 before I put a fresh set on. The downside is that they are CUV tires and are hard and loud AF. But they handle like the van is on rails through a torrential downpour at 70mph with surefooted confidence.

3rd toyota since 2013 to buy new, I am a Toyota guy through and through. Not every car you buy is perfect, but these cars are extremely reliable and that's most important with the sizable outlay of money it takes to purchase them.

@@cjburn2758 Yeah. Fully agree. Worth the price for peace of mind. All I’ve had to do to mine was tires and rear brakes. One recall for the sliding door harness and that’s it. BTW, I have had this thing cruising around 100 down the KATY tollway from Houston to Austin/Buda. Cruises like no other. My two college students drive a Honda Accord and a Ch-r. Again. Peace of mind

The “luxury” MPV seems to be a thing in Japan with vehicles like the Alphard, but I guess they don’t see a market for it in the US and they will be fine with that as long as they can keep selling so many “premium” SUVs as they do.

For some reason, car reviewers lost their shit when Honda introduced the $50k Elite trim level on the Odyssey, but don't bat an eye at $100k SUVs and crossovers.

I am in the waitlist to get one of these. I have an XC90 and only two kids. It is a super comfortable SUV but yes I do feel the lack of space in it with the car seats and the amount of stuff we haul during trips. I test drove the Pacifica hybrid and Sienna was wow'd by the amount of space if offered. I can literally setup a bed in it if I wanted to. The gas mileage was another major factor too. I've always had the minivan stigma in me so making this shift is going to be interesting. While I stand in line for the Sienna I still keep wondering what I would do without my suv in the future 😅

I'm curious what the Volvo "Embla" will look like. The Concept Recharge looks minivan-ish but since it is on a pure electric platform, it may very well have the functionality and space of a vehicle like the Pacifica or Sienna.

Let's see how this comment will age: As of August 2022, in New Jersey where I live, all Toyota dealers have a $5-8,000 markup on new Sienna vans. Hoping this gets better in the future!
