    This car saved my life (suffered a straight 130 mph highway rear-end collision with a double roll-over, the car ending on it's roof). The interior is tactile-friendly, but I agree it's infotainment screen and overall design is ugly. All that aside, consider the safety- there is no better car in the world, I can luckily testify to that. Great review.

    Having taken the rav4 for a recent test drive, I really enjoyed the interior. It feels unique yet not overly designed. Up to your personal taste. Controls are all easy to use while driving. The infotainment is not pretty and looks outdated but is very functional and easy to use (thanks to those physical buttons). Navigation also worked well with directions displayed on the heads up display, great feuture. Toyota may be lagging behind abit when it comes to tech compared to european rivals. But their whole philosophy is different. Toyota implement new tech when said tech is ready and bug free. Unlike slick but buggy tech in ID3 for example. The rav4 felt as premium as I would expect. It doesnt need to be volvo or Lexus because it isnt a luxury vehicle. Driving it feels confident, relaxing yet not at all boring. Add to that the reliability and economy. Would recommend to anyone!

    I think Toyota purposely make the interiors poor so that they can differentiate it from Lexus which is their luxury brand. But the car itself is such a carefree joy to own and run mechanically

    It’s becuase they want people to buy up to the highlander. Each model is specifically “detuned” to make the customer consider spending more money on the next model up. Corolla - RAV4 - highlander - 2023 sequoia Tacoma - 2023 tundra Camry - Avalon / 2023/2024 crown In America

    Not sure when 'hard' plastics became so undesirable. Never heard it mentioned until about 4 years ago and now it's the number one issue for all reviewers. Arm rests, sure, but I don't care if the dash is hard (normal) plastic as long as it is durable and easily cleaned.

  • @norbzt

    @norbzt

    People are getting softer nowadays. Don't want them to hurt themselves on the hard plastic lol! Jokes aside, my guess would be it's probably just a way for the industry as a whole to encourage people to buy new cars.

  • @gerbalnuts69

    I think it's probably because the price of these vehicles have skyrocketed. 10 years ago all plastic whatever vehicle was like 15-20k now we're way over 30k for these and still using hard ass plastic.

  • @generalcaeser9176

    @generalcaeser9176

    The softer plastic is more forgiving when it comes to scratches and does have sort of a self healing effect where as the hard plastic scratches very easily and stays scratched till the day you take it to the scrap yard. Now ask me if I care? This is the best $ saving utility vehicle out there. Great gas, safe, affordable (compared to other options), legendary Toyota reliability and resale value, low cost of ownership and the list goes on. Simply put, if you're wanting something that will get you there now and 20 years from now with no hesitation, this is the one that will do it.

    @@jeffferguson69 From my experience, it goes both ways. Sometimes the hard plastic cracks early under uv damage and sometimes it's the softer plastic but I have yet to experience seeing Toyota plastic cracking in the first 20 years of it's life. They make em right.

    The interior is PERFECT. I have a 2010RAV4 & a 2009 SIENNA. I am the first owner on both. The Sienna has been taken care as much as the RAV4, if not the SIENNA was actually babied more than the RAV4. The RAV4's plastic interior dash still looks like brand new. The Sienna's soft dash is starting to show some cracks. They are both garaged when not in use. We don't use windshield sunshades when we go out. Both were always kept dust free. We live in southern California, high UV and extreme heat during summer time. We don't really have time to put sunshades for every errands. They are now over over 10 years old and they both look new. But I'm afraid that the Sienna's dash will exponentially deteriorate in the next coming years. While the RAV4 will still look brand new.

    I had the previous diesel RAV4 and was only averaging 43mpg on dual carriageways and 60mpg plus in towns, I loved the ride, in January last year I changed it for a Hybrid 2.5ltr AWD new shape, am averaging 47mpg. It's an amazing car to drive. I agree with one of the comments below the door switches are not illuminated, can be very annoying at night along with the fuel button to open the cap. 9 times out of 10 I use an ipod and let it just iterate through my music son don't need to touch the display. It does have a habit of resetting all my tracks to number one the next time I get in Overall an excellent vehicle

    I feel the water bottle in the door pocket complaint, although that you can get it in there at all after a little angling would still be an improvement over our 2018 Civic's front door pockets, which don't fit our bottles at all. It's such a minor issue, but still consistently annoying when you bring water with you everywhere.

    Hi great review! However, when you start talking about more premium Euro cars and the compare them to a Toyota, I think you’re already on a bias against the brand. With respect to Toyota buyers, I believe they see the brand as value for money. They didn’t start thinking “I want a BMW” and then buy a Toyota. There’s nothing wrong with this but just a mater of perspective. Just an opinion. Have a good day.

    Agreed. I’m coming from a latest model BMW 320D and while I do enjoy the luxury side of things as well as the enjoyable drive, it is impractical for me which is why I’ve ordered a RAV4 AWD Hybrid. The BMW is very expensive on maintenance, can’t go off road and is limited for space inside. I’ve had to keep borrowing my fathers Toyota Prado for most things. I think I’ll be sticking to Toyota from now on. Why didn’t I go for a BMW X5 for my off-road adventures? Because I’d be laughed at by my fellow campers haha

One thing that does niggle me though is the lack of illuminated door switches . They are available on the 2022 version apparently. On my wish list would be Welcome headlights & remote start. I'm still well pleased and overall glad I blew my £37k on the Toyota rather than the X1.

I must say that i was immensly suprised by how nice it looked from the outside, how if felt driving and the range of the battery! ATM, this is the top contender for my next car! Toyota should take a leaf out of Skodas book when they made the Enyaq. That interior is amazing!

    I wish the Rav hybrid had heads up display, wireless Apple CarPlay, and electric fold in side mirrors. I like that it seems like the controls are straightforward. I don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure it out. Can’t speak to the infotainment system as I haven’t gotten my vehicle yet. But I’m going from a 2008 Sonata that has no infotainment system or modern electronics so going to be a learning curve. At the end of the day, I ordered the RAV4 because I want reliability.

    I've been driving this car a lot lately, and I find it extremely pleasing to drive, yes the interior is definitely not luxury, but it's not bad, I agree with a lot of the things he says in this review, there are some niggles and negatives, but the overall pleasant feeling of driving this beautiful car, really makes up for it. And it is quite powerful I gotta say 💪 A overall good car, that gets the job done, great for long distance driving, better than the Qashqai, IMHO. And I think a Nissan Qashqai is a wonderful car too.

    Hi, Dennis...quick questions for you...how are the rear vents for putting out airflow? I have Subaru Outback and the rear air vents are nearly just back there for looks. Takes so long to cool/heat for my kiddo back there.

    Main reason I didn't go with Toyota is due to the interior and technology and went with hyundai tucson. For the same price the hyunda is a substantial step up interior and technology wise.

    It's interesting that the review doesn't consider scarcity. In Texas, sometimes power grids get shut down, sometimes there is a rush on gas. Plug in hybrid seems like the better option no matter what type of driving you do.

    It would be nice to see you test the Adventure model that is available in 2022 with the new 2022 updated headlights. Also in the UK we don't get to choose black wheels on the exel model as they are only available on the adventure or dynamic, Toyota aren't very flexible in those customisable areas. Yes their infotainment systems have a poor UI/UX and are clunky in comparison to mobile phones and they shouldn't have any excuse really.

    💯 💯💯💯 The screen is my nightmare 😫 It is the same in the premium CHR and I almost gave up of Toyota because of the old fashion screen. Luckily for them, I was between Mazda CX 30 and Toyota CHR. Between one NON touchable screen (Mazda) and the old fashion touchable screen Toyota ... I have chosen the last option 👌🏻👌🏻

    MPG difference between both drivetrains is negligible: Hybrid: 41city / 38 hwy Prime plug-in (HV mode) : 40city / 36 hwy (battery is “empty” at 20% capacity so you can drive 40 miles on EV mode only, then switch to HV mode)

    Great car but hopefully they fixed the inside of the tire wells. Every time you drive in powder you have to reach in and get the snow out of the inside tire well on the rear or it will freeze causing a massive imbalance on the car.

    Toyota is all about durability and not fashion. Toyota’s generally don’t break over time. Many go 100K+ miles and still look the same. No cracks, nothing fails. I just purchased a new Rav4 Hybrid XLE Premium package. I traded a 2020 Toyota Highlander XLE AWD. I have put 4K miles on it and average 40MPG which I am happy about. It is well built, simple, durable, and works every day!
